Orion #3865

Orion # 3865 is a very sweet and handsome 5-year-old Labrador Retriever.  He was surrendered by his owners as they could not afford veterinary care.  He came to Golden Bond with severely infected skin and ears with a loss of hair in his back end, tail, and back legs. He has been treated successfully for the infections and is now up to date on all his shots and is neutered.  His hair is slowly growing back in.  Since it is difficult to assess what caused the infections, it is recommended that he stays on a limited ingredient diet for sensitive skin, as well as continue regular bathing with a medicated and moisturizing enriched shampoo, regular flea treatment and ear cleaning.  It’s a good thing he LOVES his baths!

Orion gets along well with the resident dog and cats. He basically ignores the cats.  He loves his stuffed toys and likes to pull them out of the toy box daily and surround himself with them.  He recently has enjoyed pulling the stuffing and squeakers out as well.  He also loves his balls and will try to engage you in a lengthy game of tossing the ball for him.

Orion is housebroken and does not chew anything other than his toys.  He does bark when people walk past the house, but we are working on getting a toy rather than barking. We are also working on walks.  He walks well when he knows the area, like the neighborhood.  He gets excited with all the new smells when we go on a hike or to a new area and does tend to pull a bit.  The previous owners did take him to obedience school so it might just be more time, knowing the right commands and reminders that will help.

He is used to someone being home during the day but seems to be fine on his own and left with the resident dog.  Though he is kennel trained, he does not like to be kenneled when we are gone and will howl and bark if he is.  The previous owner also let him use the kennel as he wanted with the ability to go in and out on his own and did not contain him to it when they left.

Orion is a very sweet, responsive, affectionate boy.  He tries hard to please and does this very cute snorting (aka purring) while petting him.  He would be a great addition to a family where he is given lots of love, attention and included in activities (and throw the ball for him to catch!)

Orion is a super, duper great dog.  He loves everyone!
