Zeus #4160
Hi friends! I am Zeus (#4160), and as you can see I’m tall and athletic retriever mix, weighing in at almost 90 pounds. Don’t be intimidated by my size though; I am just a big gentle, love-bug!
Ways to describe me: Incredibly sweet; very intelligent; exuberantly happy; a bit goofy; velcro by nature, looking for my forever human (or humans) that will love me as much as I will love them. I love all humans – from babies to children to teens and adults alike! They are all my favorite. I have gotten along with every person and animal I’ve met so far! I’m not destructive in any way, but may whine when left alone. In my foster world, I’ve never been alone since there is always at least another dog or two around.
I was born in April 2022, which puts me at almost 3-years old, which, incidentally, is the start of the best years for retrievers (or so I’m told). I was born and raised in Oregon by a wonderful family who also had children and cats. I loved them all, and it was mutual. Unfortunately, when they moved I was not able to go with them, and am now looking for my furever home.
I know several commands, am completely house-trained, and am also a very quick learner. I know all sorts of commands like sit, stay, shake, how to wait for meals (I do love food though!), as well as some boundaries. I bet I would easily pick up more if you’ll work with me! I have been crate-trained and have always had one nearby, but am not required to go inside when my humans leave because I am quite properly behaved while they are gone. I prefer to sleep on the floor next to you, or at least in your room. My foster people have also been very impressed that I am not reactive to leashes, other dogs, animals, or humans while out. Even when encountering kitties unexpectedly, I wasn’t fazed at all. While I love walks so much, I could use some more leash training as I get so excited I have a tendency to pull.
I get along awesome with my foster siblings (a female German Shepherd and both a female and a male Labrador) and love to play and hang out together. I like other dogs and would probably love to have another one in the home. That said, I love humans. In fact, the more the merrier. While I love to play with my siblings, the rest of the time I’m a bit of a Velcro dog and will appreciate being by your side as your most loyal companion. I love your physical affection more than anything. In fact, sometimes if you haven’t pet me in a while then I will let you know by placing my head into your hand. I have the biggest heart and would very much love to give it to you.
In general I am up for whatever you are doing, and also pretty laid back most of the time. I haven’t exhibited any weird anxieties or get bothered by much, except being alone. I’m not bothered by the vacuum, the lawn mower or even fireworks. I love to go for rides in the car and travel well. I don’t bark a lot, but have a big voice when I do. I love to chew but have always only done so with my toys (and let’s just say most of them don’t get out alive!).
I will thrive best with a family that has at least a couple of people, a pet or two, is patient and consistent, and wants a loving, fun best friend in their life! If this kind of relationship you’re looking for, I’d love to get to know you!
