Hi, I’m Summer (#4370)! I’m an 11-month old female yellow Labrador retriever with big puppy energy in a “pocket Lab” body. I weigh about 45 pounds right now, and I’m still filling out, but I’m looking healthier every day. I’ve been hanging out with my foster family for about a month, and I’m getting the hang of this whole “being a dog with rules” thing.
Let’s start with the important stuff: I LOVE to play. Fetch is my favorite game (I could play forever), and playing chase is a close second! I have a lot of energy, but once the day winds down, I know how to relax and chill for the evening. I also really love my kennel – it’s my cozy little space where I can decompress, and I can hang out in there for up to four hours when needed. Bonus points: I’m fully house-trained and haven’t had any accidents.
I have three foster dogs get along great with all of them! I’m playful, enthusiastic, and sometimes a little tough with my play style. I do best with dog friends who can tell me when it’s time to take a break and won’t fall for my cute attempts to start another chase game (which, by the way, I am VERY good at). I am also very curious about cats, and will chase them, too, so I probably need a cat-free home. I haven’t had much experience with kids, and since I’m still pretty wiggly and get a little jumpy when I’m excited, that’s something to keep in mind if you have little ones!
I’m a smart girl, and I love learning. Training time is fun for me, especially when snacks are involved. I already know sit, shake, no, and off, and I’m working on down and wait (for doors). My recall is coming along really nicely, too! I’m pretty good on walks, although I sometimes pull a little and zigzag like a typical lab puppy, but I don’t bark at other dogs or people.
Speaking of snacks, I am a serious food lover. I eat with great enthusiasm and do best with a slow feeder, but I sit very politely and wait for my meals. I love tough chew bones and treat puzzles, and I should warn you now: stuffed toys do not survive in my presence. One of my funniest quirks is how wiggly I am – sometimes it’s hard to pet me because my whole body is in motion, but once I realize how good pets feel, I melt right into them. I’ve found a spot on the couch next to a human is a pretty good place to be.
I’d love an active home with a fenced yard, and either another playful dog or humans who are committed to giving me daily exercise and adventures. I’m affectionate, a little velcro-y, and still learning about the world, but I promise I’ll be your best friend, your fetch partner, and your very silly adventure companion.
