Sissy #4129
Hey everybody! Sissy (#4219) here. I am a 4-year old, 56-ish pound Golden Retriever. I have been told I have a heart of gold so maybe that’s why they call me a GOLDEN retriever? It makes sense to me.
My life started out tough. I was raised by a hoarder/breeder who did not treat me well. Thankfully, a great family got me out of that horrible situation and loved me BIG TIME. Unfortunately, though, the family then had some medical problems and decided it would be best for me if they asked Golden Bond Rescue to help me find a new family to love.
I am told that I am a great dog without a mean bone in my body. I am pretty mellow, but also very shy and cautious around new people. If you adopt me, it will take a bit for me to warm up to you but I will be by your side all the time once I do.
I love to ride in the car and, if it’s warm enough, I like having the windows down. I love to chase balls, especially squeaky ones. I love all kinds of toys but usually try to chew the squeaker out of the rubber ones. The stuffies are a different story…I just love on them and don’t chew them up. I also really like hard chew bones.
Many things in the outside world scare me because I did not experience them previously. I will need training on leash walking because, well, not only do I want to walk all over the place but also I am afraid of noises and things I don’t understand. Don’t get me wrong – I love to go for walks, but they scare me a bit.
I am housetrained…never had an accident in the house; love to sleep on the furniture and the bed and I’ll gladly visit you in the bathroom to ask for love! I am crate-trained and, in fact, my crate is my safe place to go when I’m scared.
I had ear infections for a very long time which caused some damage to my ear canal; it’s nothing to really worry about and now, FINALLY, I have received treatment. I might need to have ear meds for a while to keep things in check, but I don’t mind the meds in my ears at all…in fact I sit there and wait patiently for them. I also seem to have some skin allergies, but nothing major and those also are now under control with meds.
I think I would do fine with kids; my last family did have a young child. I am not really interested in other dogs at all, but I’m also not afraid to be around them. I might do well with a dog pal who is pretty mellow. I’m not sure how I would be with cats.
I am not a barker at all; I have only barked once at my foster home. Oh, and I have been the groomer…and it was one place that I really enjoyed visiting. The groomer said I behaved spectacularly and loved to be blown by the fur dryer.
My foster family thinks I am a great dog who needs a home that will allow me time to settle in and then give me the chance to explore the world outside of the house and backyard. They say I am a really easy and mellow dog to be around and to love. I simply need someone who will take the time to help me out of my shell so I can really shine. Could you be my future? I hope so.
