This handsome 7-year-old English Labrador Retriever found himself in a shelter when an owner surrendered him owing to her own poor health and not being able to take care of this boy any longer.  Sadly, she had rescued him two years prior from a breeding operation where he did not have the best life.  Golden Bond was happy to scoop this big boy up and get him into foster care.  Stay tuned for updates as he settles in.

January 25, 2025: The latest from Duke’s foster mom:

This guy!!!! He’s so special! Such a gentle giant! He’s by far the easiest foster we’ve ever had! He’s so sweet and so far he loves every person and almost every dog we’ve encountered! My friend is a dog walker and we’re going to work with the pack with him and see how that goes! He’s so sweet to our cat and so sweet to our girls! He’s just a big old goob.

January 21, 2025: Duke moved from his temporary foster into his regular foster home and is adjusting beautifully.  Meeting the resident cat was a non-event.  He could not have cared less. Good boy Duke!  He is doing very well with the two female resident Golden Retrievers in the home too.

January 15, 2025: Poor Duke had to have two teeth extracted and it took some time for the anesthesia to wear off.  The good news is that he gets to be on softened food for two weeks, and he’s loving the wet dog food.

January 10, 2025: Duke has been in foster care for a week now and he is settling in beautifully.  He quickly let foster mom know that he doesn’t like to be contained (she used a gate) but since he has impeccable house manners, he now has free rein now when she’s not home.  Foster mom is working on getting him to walk better as he is a puller, but he mostly just at the beginnings of his walk.  He’s a total love bug, albeit a big one at 103 pounds!  Duke loves to play fetch and has new spring in his step now that he is on meds to address an old injury and some arthritis. He was very good boy for his vet appointment!
