Hi! I’m Steve (GBR #3758).

Steve is an 85-lb, 8yr old,  Lab/White Shepherd mix who has been in foster care far too long and is ready for the forever home he truly deserves.
He’s a smart, sensitive, loyal dog who bonds deeply with his people and wants nothing more than to be part of a family.

Personality & Favorites:

Steve loves playing hide and seek, chasing his ball, and enjoying his favorite snack—string cheese. He knows several commands including sit, lay down, shake, and go to your bed. He’s house trained, can be trusted when left alone, and does well in the house—though he’d much prefer being with his humans.

Social Info:

Steve may do well with another dog, but he is selective and will need slow, thoughtful introductions. He thrives around calm, understanding people and appreciates routine and reassurance due to past sensitivity around potential abandonment. Steve will communicate with grunts, groans and howl on occasion along with a firm push with his nose.

Health & Needs:

Steve has a few old physical injuries but does very well on his pain meds and enjoys life. He needs an adopter who is understanding, compassionate, and willing to continue his care so he can stay comfortable and active.

Ideal Home:

• Fenced yard
• Another compatible dog (slow intros) is a plus but not required
• Lots of human interaction
• Patient, understanding humans who appreciate a sensitive soul
Steve is truly a wonderful dog who deserves stability, love, and a family to call his own. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who already has great manners and a big heart, Steve might be your perfect match!

More Information from Steve’s Foster:

Hello, my name Steve but my foster mom calls me “Boo”. I’m 8yrs old.

I make different sounds to communicate my needs.

I like to play chase and hide-n-seek with my foster mom. I tease her and run when she gets the dog brush out but I know the string cheese comes next so I always give in. I love splashing in water or in my little pool, playing with my ball and also the rabbit that make a noise. I enjoy knocking the wobble toy around to get treats out.

I can be left in the house alone, although I would rather be with my person. Ohh….I have been known to counter surf so it is best to keep food out of paws reach when you’re gone (and I’m a tall boy!). I sleep on my own bed in the house and know to potty outside. I watch Dog TV when she leaves during the day and listen to dog music at bedtime.

I like areas with nature sounds rather than busy city sounds. My foster mom takes me for car rides and walks in nature. She always tells me I’m a good boy. I do have a little fear of slick floors but that most likely is because I have arthritis in my hips and it can be painful trying to steady myself. The vet gave my foster mom pills to help with the inflammation and pain, plus I’m getting a couple of good supplements that help.

My foster mom says I am her gentle giant because I am 85lbs of pure love and I am so gentle when taking treats, beware of my licking your ear!  I am not a food motivated dog except for string cheese! String cheese will pretty much get me to do anything.

I used to react to bicycles and helmets but since walking the trails with my foster mom they don’t bother me so much. Be warned, if you are shirtless with a ball cap on, all bets are off. My foster mom, agrees!

Some dogs make me anxious, and I become leash reactive. We are working on that with the help of a trainer. I would probably do best not living with any other dogs.

I know how to sit, shake, stay, and go lie down.

I do react to certain sounds, but what dog wouldn’t?! My foster mom says I am a smart doggie! I agree! One morning at 4:30am CHIRP…CHIRP….I’m howling and she is running around in her underwear trying to figure out which one of the smoke alarms was causing the ruckus. She was on the ladder with alarms hanging off the ceilings and walls. She was trying desperately to find it because that chirp made me anxious and cry out. So I climbed those slick, scary stairs and pointed out the alarm that was chirping. My foster mom was really surprised, I got a “good boy” and petting.  She wonders what else I can do.

You can discover my love, loyalty and all the joy I can give when you provide me my fur-ever home. Can I be your Boo?
