Halo #4393
Little Miss Halo has been in foster care a couple of weeks and we now know so much more about her. She was initially quite frightened of her new humans, but felt better when she met the resident dogs. Within two days, however, her foster mom became her new best friend. The fact that she attached so quickly and strongly means she’ll likely do the same for her future family. Good girl Halo! She loves to be pet and have her belly rubbed and if you let her, she’ll cuddle with you on the couch.
We were told Halo was a Lab mix but her foster parents also see some herding dog characteristics. And at a year old, she’s still got puppy in her. What that means is that she is an active, intelligent, toy-driven and focused dog. Indeed, Halo loves her toys and can spend hours playing with them. Now if only she could learn to put the toys back in the toy bin at the end of the day…
Halo loves to run and she can outrun many a dog. She’s had several playdates in the last few days, and her favorite game is chase, both as the chaser and as the one being chased. She’s a bit on the submissive side with dogs she doesn’t know (except when she is pestering the Senior Labs in the house who don’t want to play much!). If a dog gets to be too much for her, and if she encounters several dogs at the same time while out on walks, she may hide behind foster mom for a bit. Similarly, she is a bit cautious meeting new people and prefers to be on the one doing the approaching. And she is getting braver every day!
Halo is fully house trained and crate trained. At bedtime she knows the routine and after the last potty break, she runs into her cozy crate and waits for her treats. She can be crated some during the day, but she isn’t always happy about it unless she has a high value food toy or is tired after a play session. She isn’t destructive, but she’d rather be out where the action is and where the resident dogs are.

Halo originally came from a shelter after being found abandoned in a rural area as a puppy. She then lived with someone who loved her very much but who was having a health issue. This person had two cats, and Halo did like to chase them and was not to be deterred, so no cats for his girl! She hasn’t lived with kids and while she is quite curious about them when she sees them out on walks, she’d probably do better with older kids that wouldn’t get her so excited.
Halo would thrive on a larger property where she has room to safely run, and she’d love a like-minded canine companion. She’d also make an excellent hiking partner. She’s quite good on leash EXCEPT when the puppy in her wants to start playing tug. After being reminded that the goal is a walk, she usually gives up pretty quickly. So far, she loves wading in the water, but her feet have yet to leave the ground. All in good time.
Halo is in good health, fully vaccinated and spayed. Please reach out if you have questions about her.
