Meet Gene Kelly (#4267)!

I’m a big boy with a big personality—and an even bigger heart. I’m incredibly loyal and devoted to my people, and I absolutely love being by your side. Show me a little love, and I’ll return it tenfold. I’ll happily greet you when you come home (no jumping, I promise!), then roll right onto my back with all four paws in the air, patiently waiting for a well-deserved belly rub.

If you work from home, I’m your dream office companion. I’ll quietly relax nearby, keeping you company without interrupting—even during those long work calls (though I won’t complain if you sneak in some head scratches!).

I’m a true gentleman in the house. I don’t chew things that aren’t mine, so your shoes, socks, and pillows are all safe—even the cat toys… well, except for the cat’s mini Lamb Chop, but only because it looks exactly like my full-size one! The good news… I’ve learned to peacefully coexist with cats. I may occasionally try a little counter-surfing if something smells irresistible, but I’m working on that. At mealtime, I get excited but know to sit patiently until I’m served. I respect furniture boundaries and only hop up when invited—and I love a good couch cuddle. I can be trusted loose in the house, though I’m crate-trained and comfortable if needed. When left alone, I don’t get anxious—I’ll watch you leave, then settle in and wait for your return.

I’ve got a fun, playful side too! Backyard zoomies are the best, and while I didn’t grow up playing with many toys, I’ve discovered that chasing balls is a blast (I’m still working on the “bringing it back” part!). I also love sticks—so much so that I’ve started a little collection by the front door of sticks I pick up on my walks. Daily walks are one of my
favorite things, and I’ve learned that my harness and leash mean I get to explore the world. I’m smart, eager to learn, and especially motivated when treats are involved.

Now, no dog is perfect, so here are a few of my faults and things I need to work on. Before coming to Golden Bond Rescue, I had an injury to my right eye and lost about 20% of my vision—but you’d never know it. It doesn’t slow me down one bit!

I’ve lived with other dogs before, but I’d be happiest as the only dog in my home. I can be protective of things I value, especially food, and I’m still building my confidence and social skills around other dogs, cats and people. I’m currently working with a trainer, but busy environments like dog parks or farmer’s markets can be overwhelming for me right now.

I’ll soon be ready to find my forever home, a family who wants a loyal, affectionate companion and understands I’ll thrive best as their one-and-only pup. In return, I’ll give you endless devotion, companionship and goofiness and smiles.
