Update as of 4/4/26: This young pup has really settled in at his foster home. He saw the veterinarian and almost everything checked out. He is being treated for yeast infections in both ears, and he needs to get a couple booster shots. Casper is a perfect weight at 63 pounds. He walks well on leash; he mostly wants to stay and sniff longer so negotiates with his fosters to make a plan that works for both! Casper is learning to leave things on the table and counters alone. He responds well to calm verbal correction.
On walks, Casper would like to meet all the dogs but his foster family is selective. He sniffs the dog, wags his tail and, if the dog is playful, he will bounce around with them. He has been friendly with all the people he has met, including adults and children down to age eight or so. He is pretty calm when he meets dogs and people, and he doesn’t jump on them. He would love to chase crows and squirrels, so cats may be as interesting to him.
Casper seems to have been a bit sheltered before coming to GBR. Many sounds and some items on his walks seem unknown to him and he is cautious but he is gaining confidence daily. Casper loves to get his foster’s slippers and move them to his bed during the night. Socks are a favorite, too. He has not damaged anything, but his fosters have learned to keep slippers out of reach when they are not home. He also likes to get tissues out of the trash or off a table; his fosters are able to open his mouth to remove them.
Original post 3/30/26: This handsome Golden Retriever is Casper (#4423). Casper is 3-years old and weighs 56 pounds.
