Hi there, thanks for checking me out! My name is Atom (#4261); I recently flew all the way to the U.S. from S. Korea, where I lived for awhile with a foster family there. I am so happy to be here now with my new foster parents, and my two foster doggy sisters. I’m a “good boy”, as my foster parents keep telling me! The vet told me and my foster mom that I’m about 3-4 years old. I’m a retriever mix, and right now I weigh 67 lbs. My foster parents are feeding me just the right amount of delicious, high quality food that is helping me lose a few pounds. I love mealtime, and treats, so my foster mom is making sure I get just the right amount of food, as she tells me I should be closer to 60 lbs. My coat is soft and silky; and I’m so happy that I don’t have any allergies or skin issues! I’m very proud to say that I’m completely housetrained!
I LOVE playing with my foster sisters! We run, chase, and wrestle outside in the fenced backyard, and inside sometimes too! We’ll play tug-of-war with some toys, and then quietly chew on chew toys together. One of my favorite toys is a squeaky pig that makes the funniest grunting sound when I chew on it. My foster parents laugh when I’m running around with Piggy, tossing him up in the air, catching him, and hearing him grunt! It wasn’t always like this though. I needed some time to get to know my foster siblings before I stopped taking toys or chew bones from them. I still eat my meals in a separate area from my foster siblings too, which is fine with me!!!!
Humans are also fun! My foster parents are great at giving me lots of pets, and tummy rubs, which are my favorite. My foster mom tells me I give the best doggy kisses, which makes me feel warm inside. I’m happy sleeping on my special blanket on the floor next to my foster parents, and although I’m allowed on the furniture, I actually am just as fine with hanging out on my blanket on the floor when we’re chilling out, watching tv etc. I haven’t met any human children since I’ve been here, although I did live with a family that had kids when I was in S. Korea. I haven’t figured out how to tell my foster parents how I did with them. Sometimes my foster parents have to leave the house, and although I’d rather they never leave, I’m okay with that after I bark and pace a bit, then I make sure they’re going to come back home by laying by the front door, and watching out the window for them.
I love going on walks with my foster sisters and foster parents; I walk on leash very calmly for the most part, although when I see another dog out for a walk, I tend to get excited so I’ll bark and want to check them out. I’m ok with turning around and coming back towards my foster mom when she calls me, especially because I get a treat! I’m also doing really well learning the English words for come, sit, and shake. I’m learning “leave it”, and stay. Car rides are great too! I just hop right into the backseat, lay down, and we’re off! I’m so exited when we’re ready to get out of the car, that I’m working on “wait” before I jump right out!
My “pawfect” furever family will spend time with me each day, make sure I get moderate exercise regularly, continue to help me learn, and give me opportunities to play with other dogs that I get to know and play regularly with. Could that be you?
