Zuzu, now NitNoy #3261

Hi! My name is NitNoy (“little one”), aka ZuZu at Golden Bond Rescue. I wanted to take a moment to update my life since I was adopted December 5. First, I have to thank Lynne and her family for fostering me and introducing me to a new, wonderful life.  My new home in downtown Portland is great. I am the only NitNoy so I get all the attention. All I have to do is lean on Dad’s leg and bat my baby brown eyes as he pets me and I pretty much turn to mush. And Mom feeds me the best stuff twice a day. I even sit politely until she tells me it is ok to eat. The rest of the day I have my chin in her lap trying to get more.

I was told I am 1/2 Golden Retriever. My coat is thick and a bit wispy, kinda like a Golden. My baby brown eyes are those of a yellow lab. Dad teases me about the Heinz 57 in my background because of my white snout, white patch on my chest, white feet, small ears and fox like tail. I know he loves it when I stand tall, curl in a ball, trot like a stallion and roll onto my back for a tummy pat. Really, Mom and Dad think I am great the way I am.

Walks. I love them except when it is raining hard. Mom calls me a primadonna because I don’t like to get my feet wet.  I have Mom and Dad on a good training schedule and am getting them in shape. The wind used to scare me until I realized it brings new smells to my nose. Now I love it blowing through my nose and hair.

I have it so good I sometimes want to protect them from other dogs walking with their owners  by growling and making myself look bigger by raising the hair on the back of my neck and on my back. I must admit, it makes me look pretty mean and ferocious, But I am learning pretty quickly it isn’t a real threat. Besides, I am a lover not a fighter.

I really like walking to Mud Bay and it has become my favorite store. The urban lifestyle is fun, all the noises and people, but becomes pretty dull sometimes., Riding in the car anywhere, especially Pet Smart or Petco is also exciting. But the best so far was playing in the snow at Thunder Island in the Gorge. I ran to the end of my 23 foot leash, then back again, many times. Rolling in the snow was so much better than rolling in goose poop at the park. However, digging a hole to China at Waterfront Park took everybody by surprise and wore me out. But what fun.

What amazes me most is how much love I feel for them and they for me. Sure beats where I came from. My eternal gratitude to those who found me, a lost, lonely soul, in China, brought me to Portland, cleaned me up and made me healthy.

All I can really say is I feel like Cinderella and love my new fairy tale life.

Golden Retriever/Labrador Retriever mix Zuzu (#3261) came all the way from China to find her forever home.  She has great house manners, no accidents in the house, and is crate trained. She doesn’t get on furniture unless invited. She doesn’t like loud noises (i.e., vacuums and storms). She was quite anxious during a recent storm, so much so that her foster mom couldn’t calm her down until the wind stopped howling.

Zuzu has not yet been trusted with the cats in her foster home. She tends to bark, growl, and chase them (as in prey). She gets along well with the dogs in her foster home. She appears to prefer women at this time and even likes to have her foster mom nearby when she (obviously Zuzu. not her foster mom) goes outside to do her business. She likes to be brushed, but so far has been terribly frightened of being bathed.

Zuzu was adopted on December 5, 2019
