On November 30th, 2016 my husband and I drove down to Vancouver, Washington to meet Zach and bring him home with us to Vancouver Island, BC. Thank you Mary and Emory for fostering him and driving up from Oregon to meet us!  He was so thin we could count his ribs and all we wanted to do was fatten him up and give him lots of love, cookies and cuddles.  He immediately fell in love with our other Golden, Riley, and together they spend countless hours playing and zooming around the back yard.

A few weeks later I felt something was wrong, Zach was curled up on the bed and was moaning a bit, his stomach was very distended.  I bundled him up and took him to our Vet who did some blood work and took several x-rays.  We found that he had pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas usually due to an inappropriate diet.  Who knows what he was eating in Shanghai?  There went our mission to fatten him up.  He is only allowed food with no more than 10% fat content for the rest of his life.  He’s doing very well on it as is Riley, who’s also on the same diet as he needed to lose a few pounds.  Zach’s coat is coming in beautifully, is shiny and he’s getting lots of curls!  I think it’s going to be lovely in a few months.

Zach loves car rides and the walking trails in town, the beach and trips to the lake.  So far he hasn’t shown any desire to swim however, I think when summer comes that may change.  He’s becoming more trusting as time goes by however, we found that he has some food guarding issues so we give him lots of room when he’s eating or chewing on a bone.  We’re working on correcting this behaviour with a trainer here in town.

We have fallen in love with our new little “goof”, he’s so sweet and has the loveliest eyes.  He sleeps with me and Riley every night and I get morning kisses to let me know he’s awake and ready for breakfast.  We’re so very thankful to all of the Golden Bond volunteers in Oregon and Vancouver. A big thank you to Larry Williams for his part in finding our fur baby.  Also to Alex Catena and volunteers in Shanghai for bringing Zach out of a horrible situation and into our lives.  Thank you Golden Bond, you run like a well oiled machine!

Max was adopted November 30, 2016

Meet Max (#2762).  Max came in from Shanghai, China on November 25th and is now in his foster home.  Max is a good looking, 2-3 year old neutered male Golden about 55 pounds.  He is a bit nervous with strangers and this can come out in hyperactivity, but he settles down. His play with ot

her dogs can be a bit rough, but he also settles down there as he gets more comfortable. He’s good with other dogs and loves people.  Max will be looking for a home with a confident owner who can help him to be more confident too. He’s doing great in his foster home and enjoys playing with his three foster siblings.
