My name is Joey (#4328). I am an 8-year old (recently) cream Golden Retriever.  I do great in a crate.  So far there have been no accidents (with supervision or containment) in the house. I have a high pitched singing voice in the kennel or by myself in the house because I want attention, but when I’m with people I am quiet.  I will need a steady/firm/consistent hand to get past some anxious tendencies…but it all comes from a place of love!

In my last home, I was kept outside in a small dirt run and didn’t get out much.  Now I’m learning about outdoor exercise, leash manners, and how to not be pushy with people and other dogs. I LOVE all shapes and sizes of people and animals…but my exuberance gets the better of everyone at times. I will want continued help regulating my behavior. The house cat in my foster home is interesting and I will need continuing guidance on showing respect and appropriate etiquette with other pets.  I do tend to guard my food and should be fed separately from any other pets.  We all should get to eat our food undisturbed, I think!
I am currently in foster care at a farm in NE Oregon (outside of LaGrande). So far I don’t care at all about the animals (horses, pigs, chickens) but will occasionally bark at cows off in the distance. I am not all that into toys but I will resource guard them with other dogs; I also enjoy chewing up my toys.  I do love a good treat and can take them very gently. I know my name and have some recall. I know “sit”, but don’t have much exposure to other commands. Chews are pretty exciting and I will happily work on them to clean my teeth.  I haven’t shown any tendencies to dig or question the 3-foot fence in the pasture. When it comes to food, I’m a slow grazer and easily distracted by any other activity. The neighbor kids have come to visit, and I really enjoyed the attention, but they had to stay careful and safe around my boisterous ways.
My favorite things are rolling around in the grass while growling and barking for no apparent reason, and jumping into most any kind water…except I’m not too excited about baths, and like to show off my muscle in protest.  Everyone found out I like to destroy stuffies too!
I’m getting more fit every day!  I was nearly 100 pounds when I went into foster care.  In two weeks, I’ve shed over 10 pounds and am aiming for a fit 75 pounds through proper exercise and diet.  Looking forward to meeting my perfect family!
