If I had to describe our three groups of rescued goldens, I would say the UTL group is scruffy, Willow and her puppies have cornered the market on cuteness, and the Holiday Shelter goldens are extremely handsome clones.
Here’s their story: In early 2017, rescuers found out that a breeder with 78 dogs, not just goldens, was going to sell his “stock” to a slaughterhouse. It’s not unusual for breeders with excess animals or going out of business will try to recoup expenses by selling to slaughterhouses. There are no meat-dog breeders in China, just pet-dog breeders.
A group of rescuers approached the breeder and convinced him to turn the dogs over to the various rescuers. Of the 78 dogs, 30 were goldens. The 21 goldens at the Holiday Shelter were taken from the 30 by a rescuer who calls herself Holiday. The other nine goldens were taken by other rescuers. In this group of 21, 13 are girls and 8 are boys. GBR gave them names:
Girls: Kelli, Kristin, Kay, Kathie, Katie, Kerry, Kandi, Karen, Kelsey, Kiki, Kittie, Kimmy, Krissy
Boys: Keller, Kyro, King, Kennedy, Kona, Kramer, Kenny, Kipp
So here we are almost to the end of our journey. You have gotten to know me pretty well and you’ve met the 50 other goldens waiting for their chance at forever homes. GBR has a large waiting list of approved adopters and all we have to do is travel 5,650 miles to the West Coast of the United States.
