Fortune was adopted April 2, 2017
Hi everybody ! My name is Fortune (#2794) and I am one very sweet cookie. I am a three-year old red-coated pure Golden. I was saved from the slaughterhouse in China and boy-oh-boy am I glad I got rescued because now I’m in a new home with lots of love, food, toys and canine playmates!
Everyone who meets me says I am just a gorgeous dog, but I am also a very energetic and strong boy.
I live with my foster mom’s two mellow female dogs and we all get along nicely. I really like playing with my foster mom’s Golden and we have a blast together tiring each other out on a regular basis. But because I’m so energetic, it’s important that I also get a lot of other exercise like running, jogging, walking and maybe even swimming. If I don’t get enough exercise, I sometimes get into mischief like counter crawling and jumping up to steal things out of my foster mom’s hand. But I’ve learned not to do that much anymore.
I’m still working on a basic commands, but I do know “sit” really well and I usually come when called. I will need more basic training to teach me all the manners I need to know to become your best pal ever.
I haven’t been around kids, but I think I would do well with older, respectful ones. Not sure about cats since I have not been around them but I do get pretty excited when I see squirrels.
I walk fairly nicely on a leash. I start out tugging just a little, but within about 10 minutes, I’m walking on a loose leash. Sometimes I get a little distracted sniffing all the new fun smells but if I see a squirrel I will tug really hard to go after it, so it’s important my new owner can handle a strong dog.
I don’t dig and I don’t bark much at all. I know in my original write up it said I would shred anything immediately, but since I’ve been in my foster home, I have not chewed up one thing, not even stuffed toys. And speaking of toys, I love all of them, sometimes playing tug-o-war with my Golden sister or foster mom, but I share all the toys very nicely.
I love, love, love going for car rides and would be happy to ride along with you on errands or road trips. I really like playing with other dogs but sometimes I roughhouse a little too hard, so best I play with bigger dogs who want to roughhouse too.
I love people and I will even roll over for big time belly rubs…yep, living the good life now.
So if you’ve ever wanted to say you have a fortune, here’s your chance. And I promise I’ll try really hard to make you proud of me and become a real treasure.
Notes from foster mom: Fortune is just a very happy little guy and always has a wagging tail. He is very energetic and strong, so he will need an owner who has a gentle but firm hand and voice. He would be best with an active family. As with most foster dogs, he came with some quirks but he has really blossomed here and with more time and training, I know he will become a perfect dog. He is a very special dog who deserves a very special family.
