Flame

I could write a novel about Flame because she is such a wonderful little dog. Are you ready? Flame has the sweetest personality and has fit into our family so well. She minds very well, and now we can take her into our front yard without a leash on her, and we don't have to worry about her running off. She will walk
along to the end of the driveway, and "stay" while we cross the road to
get the mail. She doesn't get on the furniture unless invited, she doesn't
beg for food when we are eating, she doesn't chew up anything, and she can go
from 9pm until the next afternoon without going outside. (That's not
because we have ever left her that long - it's because if it's raining,
she doesn't want to get her feet wet!!) She is just the nicest little dog,
and we love her so-o-o-o much!

She is still the little "Velcro" dog as first described, and wants to be
by us at all times. She is very sensitive to our feelings and when Pete's
mother passed away in May, she could tell something was wrong and she
literally clung to him. She gets along with everyone and everything. We
have had her now for 6 months, and at first her only bark was one that
meant, "Take me with you!" Lately she has been giving a protective bark
when someone approaches our home - it's as if she knows this is her
forever home, and in her gentle 'golden' way she is letting the newcomer know
that.

Flame loves riding in the car and is always eager to hop in one of our
hot rods. We take her nearly everywhere we go and she has been as far
north as Vancouver, B.C. She has perfect car manners, and she doesn't even
leave nose-prints on the windows! (Or at least not very many.)

Because she is an older dog, we try to allow her a few little
idiosyncrasies. When she is in her "sniffing mode," she doesn't like to
come when called, and she usually ignores us until SHE is ready. We are
always near, so we don't mind waiting for her.

When she was found as a stray, we understand that she had some skin
problems. Everything seemed to clear up nicely, but this last month we
have had her to the Vet three times for antibiotics, shampoo formula, fish oil
capsules, and special food. She has learned the command "Sit nice"
exceptionally well since she has been taking these pills, which I wrap in
A dab of peanut butter!! I think she knows the words "peanut butter"
because she always comes running when I when I ask her if she wants some.

Her appetite hasn't been too good lately, and we're not sure if she just
doesn't like her food, or if maybe her mouth is sore. Her front teeth are
either broken off or missing and not very good to look at. There was some
bleeding a few days ago when I brushed them. So we have scheduled a bunch
of blood work, and then dental work will be done on the 19th. The poor
little Sweetie will have to be put to sleep for this, but the Vet has
assured me that he uses the safest and best procedures available.

We are very happy that we have her and are thankful that we are able to
give her the care that she deserves. She is a very special little dog, and we
are very grateful to Golden Bond for rescuing her.
