Brenda
Adopted February 2004
Brenda, Jim and six-year-old Avery learned that opening their hearts to a senior/special needs dog meant they were driving home with their new pooch within a week! Tiger John (#988) barely had time to pack his bags, for his journey to his new country home on 10 acres. Brenda was originally looking for a puppy, but Tiger's story of courage tugged at her heartstrings. Although Tiger is blind, he will be treated like a capable, smart and happy dog, and a beloved family member. Tiger can look forward to homemade dog treats, walks in the wilderness, summer days spent swimming and boating at a nearby lake, and chats with his new brother, Avery. Besides his human brother, Tiger will get to pal around with the family cat, a litter-box trained rabbit, and 8 chickens! Life couldn't get any better than this!! And, Tiger's foster family says that no dog is more deserving of this fairytale ending!
Stories from the Foster Mom
On Saturday, I went on a walk along the Willamette River, in Portland, with some friends and our Goldens. Nine Goldens in all from 4 months old to my 11 year old Toby. Seven of them were Golden Bond rescues! My friends were amazed at how confident and trusting Tiger was on the walk. He walks along with the other dogs, full speed ahead! No hesitancy or fear! He enjoyed himself so much!! :) This is a photo of Tiger resting after our walk. He had snuggled up with my son on this blanket to watch a DVD, and when my son got up and tossed the blanket over him Tiger just enjoyed the cozy spot and stayed to snooze! Zzzzzzzzzzz!
Original Adoption Write-Up
Tiger John (#988) is as sweet as they come! He is a 9 year old gentleman with great manners! Tiger had been with his owner since he was a puppy, when tough financial times caused Tiger to become homeless. He has adapted to his foster home extremely well getting along great with 2 Goldens, 2 cats and 2 teenagers! Oh, we should mention that Tiger John is blind. But, shhhhhhhh! Don't tell Tiger. He doesn't think there's a thing wrong with him! He's a happy, easy-going boy. Tiger's blindness is genetic, and he has been blind for most of his life. He adapts to new environments remarkably well, and moves around with the confidence of a sighted dog. Sometimes we even forget he's blind!
Tiger would be happiest in a home where things are usually left in their proper place. Because he memorizes his environment, he will trip over a toy that's left in the middle of the floor or a kitchen chair that isn't pushed in. (Sometimes he steps on his foster Golden siblings, but they don't seem to mind.) Tiger is easily directed with voice commands, and calling him along as you go from room to room allows him to follow behind. Tiger loves to go for car rides, and would be happy if you took him on all your errands (weather permitting, of course)! Tiger also loves walks, and reportedly is a good swimmer. He likes to play fetch with his special squeaky ball, which he finds by sound and smell.
Tiger John is a special needs boy, with an emphasis on SPECIAL! Can you open your heart and home to a special boy like Tiger?
