In Memoriam: Elvis (#438)
Elvis Crosses the Rainbow Bridge: December 8, 2006
We are writing this very difficult letter to inform you that our Elvis (#438) has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. He was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure last summer, but after several sessions of IV fluid therapy as well as dietary supplements, he seemed to be doing pretty well. However, just before Thanksgiving, he started feeling very ill once again, so we chose to try another three sessions of IV fluids. They helped for a few days, but then he began a steady decline, ultimately refusing food and water, and becoming very nauseous and unsteady. Bad days quickly outnumbered the good, and although it is an extremely difficult decision to make, we asked Dr. Deb LaPaugh to help Elvis pass peacefully on December 8, 2006.
We should tell you that even though we adopted Elvis when he was about 10 years old, he never lost his spunk, nor his love of riding in cars. He was forever ready to play and lived to hear the words "wanna go?" His esophageal paralysis, while slowing him down physically, was never able to curb his enthusiasm. He was a most gentle boy around our grandson, even when he was ill, always choosing to lay nearby... his Guardian Golden.
Something else... never believe that an old dog cannot learn new tricks! Elvis earned his Canine Good Citizen credentials when he was almost 12 years old, passing with flying colors. While he loved being a café dog, laying at our feet watching the Pearl District scene unfold, he also loved it when we moved to Bend full time, especially when it snowed.
We are deeply saddened at losing our good friend, but know that he's now feeling good and running free with all our other Goldens who were there to greet him.

Adopted February 2004
I have two new homes and a new last name. I am now Elvis O'Neal (#438) and I am a commuter dog. I'll be living with Paul in the Pearl district during the week and then in Bend on the weekends. I have a gorgeous new friend Sally, the resident Golden and a mom, Karen, to spend time with in Bend. Sally will be helping me polish my manners and teaching me some new games. I really hope she likes to play tug of war.
I'd like to thank Golden Bond Rescue for all the love and time they have put into assuring me such a bright and wonderful future. You guys never give up on finding just the right home for all of us. Hugs and big wet kisses to you all.
