Beau Crossed the Rainbow Bridge on August 10, 2004
I adopted Beau ( formerly know as Bo) in June of 2002. I promptly changed his name to the more elegant Beauregard, so his call name sounded the same. He and Shadow, the resident golden, became best buddies immediately and enjoyed many games of team fetch, jaw wrestling and mutual chasing. His only discernable flaws involving snacking in the cat's litter box (ugh!) and being unutrustworthy in the car with any groceries other than canned goods. Sufficent vigilance on my part restricted these activities.
Having had a Pet Therapy dog before I hoped to do this again. Shadow, a very high energy dog, was obviously inappropriate, but gentle Beau passed the test and was going to bring happiness to many. At that time, we discovered that he had MCT (Mast Cell Tumor) and had to have surgery. The outlook was good his lymph nodes showed no involvement. But less than a year later, the tumor reoccured and was judged inoperable. I was devastated. Beau had to wait eight years for his forever home, and forever turned out to be not very long at all. Still, with daily medication, he was able to enjoy twice-daily walks, chasing tennis balls and romps with Shadow. He very seldom seemed like a sick dog. What a golden sweetheart he was! But MCT is a vicious disease, and his health deteriorated. He died peacefully on August 10th, 2004. He is terribly missed by Pat and Shadow.
