Golden Retriever Rescue
For the Love of Goldens
Hello, I'm Rex 429 and I've just come to live with Maggie and Rob in Milwaukie. This is a great gig for me because my new parents are home most of the time. I have some great new friends, a nice samoyed mix of my generation and a young whipper snapper sheltie who makes me laugh. There are two feline types who are okay. And, then, there are these two funny lookin' critters that have long ears and hop around on two legs. I'm sure they'll be okay too.
My new mom and dad also want to take me with them to cheer up people who are sad. I was interviewed for the job and passed all the tests with my handsome smile, suitable size, gentle demeanor and good manners.
I hope they remember that I like to swim and chase a ball, too. I'm pretty sure they will. Thanks, Golden Bond, for helping me find my new family.
The picture shows me with my new family, brother Wesley and sister Abby. Aren't we a great looking pack!
Lucky 440 has joined the household of Ellen and Andrew in Portland. His new best buddy is son Steven who is eight. Here are some comments from Andrew and Ellen which tell it better than we ever could:
Just wanted to give you a quick update to let you know everything is going well. We are REALLY enjoying Lucky. He is eating well, "marking" the yard and "other" business too! He really has relaxed quite a bit. He has elected to sleep in my son's room at night. He has found his own space on Steven's floor. And Steven has a new best friend. He (with us) take Lucky on about 3 walks a day. It is GREAT to have a Golden again!!
Lucky, you're one lucky dog!
Sierra 435 is taking her very stroke-able head to live with Kay in Longview. The house just didn't seem right to Kay without a golden in it to keep her company and enjoy her beautifully landscaped yard. (Sierra knows not to dig holes and eat the daffodils.) When Sierra and Kay met, they knew they were meant to be together.
Sierra has also agreed to let Kay take her pre-planned trip to Alaska before moving in. In the meantime, she will be busy packing up her "babies" and getting ready for the move.
She will be sad to leave her foster family, Oskar and Joan and their new baby (with whom she is very gentle) and she hope they will come to next year's picnic to see her again.
The sun is shining brighter at Melody and Max's home since Sunday. Sunshine #439 has moved on to her forever home and what a lucky girl she is!
Sunshine will be the only dog in her new home but she will have the company of two cats which she just loves. The last year of her life before coming to Golden Bond she raised a kitten. And she did a good job too. Sunshine quickly nosed her way through her new home and definitely approved. Even the stairs were no obstacle for her. She has her own basket of toys which she quickly went through and found several favorites. There was also a trip to the pet store for more fun toys.
Melody will be home now for the next month before having to go back to work teaching nursing; so Melody and Sunshine will have lots of time to get to know each other over this month. As her foster drove away she couldn't help but hear Melody announce to her cul-de-sac, "Hey, have you seen my new dog?" I on the other hand broke into chorus singing, "You are my Sunshine, my only Sunshine." But it wasn't with any sadness, as Sunshine could not have found a better match for her bright and loving personality
Ziggy 431 has a new home in Sherwood with Sally and Harve where, it is reported, he has settled in as though he's been there always.
Visitors to his new home are greeted happily with a big smile and, if they will let him, a big kiss.
His new "roomie" is Shelby who is a four year old rottweiler/Labrador retriever mix, a rescue dog two years ago. Ziggy and Shelby have become the best buddies and play, play, play 'til they drop. When not playing with Shelby, Ziggy keeps track of Sally and Harve and makes sure that all the tennis balls and toys are moved around the house to his satisfaction.
It's been nice knowing you Ziggy. Adios.
Rusty 401 has moved into his forever home with Megan and Christopher in Portland. His new mom and dad happily report that he is a real cuddles and hugger.
He has been taking them on walks on his best heeling behavior and proudly showing off his debonair handsomeness for all his new friends and neighbors. Rusty has also patiently kept his cool when the two feminine felines hiss at him. Politely ignoring them, he announces that he's here to stay and tries to tell them that he brought his own love with him, so he won't be taking any of theirs.
Rusty, have a happy life and bring your family to the Golden Bond picnic next year!
Charlie 414 was looking for that "special someone" who would look past his allergies and see the wonderful golden boy that he is!
That someone is Barb (plus her husband, Tom, and daughter, Sarah), who has now adopted four Golden Bond dogs -- all four were older, special needs, or even hospice. Barb opens her heart and home to some of our wonderful rescued goldens who are not the first to get adopted.
Charlie was loved dearly by his foster family, and he will be missed. But, Charlie has found his own piece of "golden paradise" in the hills outside of Lebanon, with 4 other dogs and some pretty amazing humans!
And, Sarah, let us know how Charlie does in the Obedience ring!
Einstein 219 jumped into the SUV and looked back saying, "I'm ready. Let's hit the road." The "road" is home to Ashland where he will brighten the lives of Gary and Linda. Zack and two previous goldens have had long happy lives with Linda and Gary, so Einstein has some pretty big paw prints to fill.
Promises of vacation trips, swimming in the lake and just simple car rides on errands are all in his new life.
Linda's parting words were, "We'll make a good home for him." Golden Bond is certain of that and wishes the three of you much happiness and fun together.
Hi, my name is Oscar, formerly Harvey 432. I was homeless and matted to the skin when Betsy picked me up. She was so kind to shave off my matting so that a foster family could take me in. Michelle agreed to foster me, but after two days, she was hooked and now we are officially adopted. I take good care of Michelle and make sure that she vacuums every morning, by shedding enough hair every day to make a new dog.
Now that I am adopted, I can be myself, and I get into trouble, but I'm so cute that I get away with everything. Just look at my picture. Who could resist a face like mine? I smile all the time and I love to go in the car. In fact, whenever we go out for a walk, I run to the car. Why walk when you can ride? But Michelle says that I need my exercise.
I disagree, but I humor her. I want to get a kitty, but we will wait until I become a bit more gentle with my huge paws. Michelle is covered with bruises because I jump on her when she is on the couch. We are very happy together and we both feel so lucky to have found each other. Thank you Golden Bond.
--Oscar Benson Woofus
Sheila 412 has gone home to live with Barbara, Tom, and, about to be 14, Sarah. For four legged company she will have border collie, Lady; golden retrievers, Duncan and Golden Bond graduate, Annie; Dugan the cat; and Abby the rabbit. No golden could get lonesome in that crowd.
A few days after being home, Barbara complained mildly, " I didn't get my Sheila. Sarah got her". Sheila and Sarah have become an "item" and are inseparable. What a nice birthday present for Sarah!
Together, they all share a wonderful log house in the foothills of the Cascades where we know they will live happily ever after.
Sweet Sadie 424 was adopted! Wow, will her foster mom miss her, but she drove off to her new home, happy as a clam!
Sadie's new mom, Judi, reported that Sadie is adjusting to her new home in Eugene just beautifully. She slept all the way down to Eugene next to her new two year old "granddaughter," Caitlin, in the back seat. In the front seat was Sadie's new furry friend, Maggie. Everyone napped all the way home very satisfied with the new addition to the family.
Judi reports that Sadie is padding around after her, making sure that she is never out of sight for more than a minute. A short drive home from work at noon everyday is planned while Sadie adjusts to Judi's work schedule.
Sadie and twelve year old Maggie, a Beagle, are doing well together but she let Sadie know, in no uncertain terms, that when she goes to bed in her blankie, no way are you to stick your nose in here. So Maggie is setting the territorial limits and Sadie is happy to oblige knowing that she now has her forever home, and this one is for keeps!
Hey, this is Koolie 419 here, the shiny black Golden Retriever...
It didn't take me long to decide that my foster home would be a swell place to live forever. My new Golden brother, Joker, is a kick in the pants and plays lots of games with me.
I learned quickly that foster mom Susan is a real sucker -- just give her a sweet look, a couple of wags and a bear hug once in a while -- and she'll do just about anything I want... pat me, throw the ball, play chase, and fix lots of special treats! In turn, I'm becoming quite the 'watch dog', pretending to be extremely fierce with my deep dark bark. Why, just last night I scared the dickens out of a flashlight beam! I was one proud puppy.
I want to thank two very special Golden Bond people, Patsy and Diana, for their help in getting me here. I promise to be a good ambassador for Golden Bond. It's great to be home.
Love, Koolie
Buddy 374 is a Golden Bond special needs dog with a pancreatic disorder. In past weeks, he has found his way into the hearts and home of Hilary and Gus, their sons, Evan and Mitch, and border collie, Grace. The boys are home schooled and they are a very close knit family.
Buddy is doing very well with the food supplement he must take each day. He is so lucky to have a family that understands and works with him to insure a long and happy life.
We cannot conclude Buddy's success story without a profound and grateful "Thank You" to his foster mom, Michelle. While with Michelle, Buddy was transformed from a sick, emaciated boy to a happy, handsome golden. Thank you, Michelle. We know how hard it was for you to see him go.
In closing, "They all lived happily, ever after."
Pat and Mark lost their beloved golden, Elizabeth, two years ago and decided not to get another dog because it hurts so much to lose one.
Recently, they looked at each other and agreed that there was a void in their lives without a golden. Jazzmine 384 has filled that void and they are enjoying their first days together.
She will be lucky enough to travel in their motor home, chase sea gulls, swim and play fetch and make her mom and dad laugh at her antics. There's lots of love to go around.
Best wishes, Jazz, Pat and Mark.
Toby 392. It seemed like such a long time ago that I was in the animal shelter, feeling lost and lonely without special people to love me. I didn't feel well and sometimes barked and cried, just to see if somebody would come to see me.
I knew something good was going to happen the day the evaluator from Golden Bond Rescue came to visit. She spoke gently and gave me lots of attention before she took me to the vet's office for a checkup and some medicine to make me better. We had a good road trip to my foster home, where I was given more love and attention and had a doggy pal to hang out with.
When Michael and Kathy came into my life, I knew for sure that all my hopes and wishes would come true. We share gentle hugs and lots of long walks and have so many good times together. It's cool to have another doggie pal around. My new 'sister' is a Basset Hound and has done lots of good things to make me feel welcome. We're just doing fine and dandy together, whether we're sharing the backyard, road trips or all that special and wonderful love and time with Michael and Kathy.
Ty 396 has found a wonderful new friend, Chelsea. She is twelve years old, and a twin who whenever she dreams about her future it always includes a dog and now she has one!
Ty is joining a wonderful family of Mom and Dad and two other girls, Christine and Jessica. Ty will also have a doggie friend, Diamond, who has totally accepted Ty into her home in Coos Bay.
It was love at first sight for Ty and Chelsea when they met. He greeted everyone in the family but immediately went over to Chelsea as if to say, "I am the dog you have been dreaming about." Time was spent at a park where he was the perfect gentleman by not begging for their picnic lunch and the drive home found him tucked close to Chelsea.
Once in his new home, Ty was able to check out the 4 1/2 acres plus the chickens, ducks and a goose. He will soon be able to discover the mountains, timberland, rivers and lakes. Soon they will also be taking obedience classes together.
But the main joy for Ty will be the love, kindness and respect that he will receive from his new family and especially, Chelsea. Wow wouldn't we all love to go to a forever home like this. Happy times, Ty.
Lady 397
This has been a very busy summer for me.
After I was released by my former owner to Golden Bond, I was busy at Charlton Kennels where I was taught so many things. Now I'm happy sharing my home with Lee and Mary and their daughter, Hillary. We have lots of good times together.
What's really special is the amount of time and energy they have to make sure I am loved and well cared for. My life is definitely Golden with my new forever family.
Dear Golden Bond:
Who would have known when my foster "mom," Jan rescued me from the animal shelter, that I would someday make the long journey from Grants Pass to Lake Oswego to live with Rich and Ellen, and their daughters Maggie, Allie and Anna and be surrounded by so much love and attention. When I first came to stay at Jan's house, she told me that just the right family would come along and choose me for their very own. I just kept hoping and wishing that would happen.
It seems like a dream come true now that I'm enjoying long summer days with my new friends Robbie (a Golden girl), Mei-Mei (a Pug), and Apollo, the cat. I have the run of the house and yard, with lots of trees and grass to play in. Those days of being all alone have disappeared from my memory forever, and I love my new family with all my Golden heart.
Love,
Midas 393
Sage. I'm a rather reserved (some people might call me shy) Golden girl. Perhaps it's because I'm a small dog who has led a very sheltered and quiet life. I was just waiting for the perfect family to come along to discover I was the perfect dog to share their home.
Amber and Chris welcomed me with open arms and we traveled together to my dream home. We all live in a rural community in a beautiful valley and I share my new home with Nike (another Golden girl) and two Manx cats, Flash and Mia. My days are spent playing with my animal friends, chasing a tennis ball whenever I can coax Amber or Chris into throwing one for me, and staying in good condition by running with them. I know that all my days will be Golden ones.
Sugar. My name used to be Teddy, but when my foster mom quickly discovered how sweet I am, she thought Sugar suited me much better. I like my new name and my new family, too.
I've just moved to my new forever home with Buzz and Shari and wanted to let you all know just how much fun it is to be with them. I love to go on walks and play ball, and like all Goldens love the water. I'm eager to learn new things and will just about do anything to please Buzz and Shari. I do need to be reminded of things frequently because I am just still a puppy! They are patient and loving and together we will have a wonderful life together.
Buddy 399, now Paco (short for Francisco), came to his foster family rather urgently, as his family of seven moved to Las Vegas without him, overnight!
At the age of 5, Buddy is a handsome, healthy, muscular, tall, yet trim 80 pound Golden Boy. Quickly, he showed enthusiasm and adoration for his three Golden Bond foster sisters; playing, interacting, and racing through the backyard, captivating all hearts with his gentle ways and fluid movements. As foster parents, we recognized immediately his good nature with other dogs, people, including children and even cats! His house manners were exceptional, considering he lived outdoors. His days/years of outdoor living alone or in the shed were about to be over!
Buddy met his forever family at the park one sunny afternoon. The bustle and noise of children playing, dogs barking, and a small infant to sniff, never ruffled him. In fact, he just smiled. The attraction was mutual, and the timing was indeed perfect. With the new healthy, beautiful baby's arrival, and the wonderful memories of their previous Golden Bruno fading away, this was all that they could hope for. "Paco", now enjoys the good life, indoors, with love, companionship and only sweetness for his new forever family. Thank you Golden Bond for making Alexandra, Daniel and Natalia so very happy and now complete with the addition of our Paco Pal.
Enter Marilyn and Hunt who decided that Brady's diet would be continued as a member of their household in Lake Oswego.
Former Golden Bond dog, Chelsea, was adopted by Marilyn and Hunt in 1999 and was with them for four years before going to the Rainbow Bridge. They knew they didn't want to be golden-less for long, so came back to Golden Bond in search of another golden to fill their lives and hearts. What a happy new beginning for everyone!
Latest Update: January 2004
Brady is just great, he now weighs in at about 93 lbs., he is looking very slim these days. His disposition is so sweet, he just loves to be petted, walked and loved (pretty typical). He has been to the groomer several times so his coat looks shiny and soft and his feathers are beginning to grow back (Linda clipped him in June). He receives lots of compliments when we are out walking because he is so handsome and he is so friendly to other dogs. We could not have asked for a better dog. My daughter just took a digital picture of him so I will forward that when my computer receives it.
On a recent sunny afternoon, the biggest Golden we'd ever met leaped into the back of our car and into our hearts.
Bear 418 was welcomed by Ruby (the matriarch of our Golden clan), Angel (whom we'd previously adopted through Golden Bond) and Red (a foster dog). While the other dogs enjoyed running and playing in our backyard, Bear wanted to stay near one of us the entire time. Indoors, he was fearful of being alone. Bear had just begun daily thyroid medication and special food.
With a great deal of love and attention, we saw positive changes almost daily. A checkup with our veterinarian showed normal thyroid levels, hair began appearing on his bare spot and his tail started looking better every day. He enjoyed spending more time outdoors with our other dogs and walking to the nearby dog park to play.
When it came time to post information about Bear on the Golden Bond web site, we talked at great length about how important it was to find the very best family for his forever home. They would need to have unconditional love, patience and the time and energy for this special guy. After much discussion, we looked at each other and said, "A family just like us."
We took our special Ruby to the vet for her trip to the Rainbow Bridge. We were of course, very sad. We knew Ruby had met and approved of Bear. We knew that all of us had shared her loss together. We also knew that our dear Ruby could never be replaced in our hearts. So our logic was to try to keep the family together. The decision to try to adopt Bear was made.
Now affectionately called by Patty our Honey Bear, our newest family member is one happy and playful pup. I don't think it has anything to do that he has a nose for the cats' honeypot. He enjoys playing with Angel in the backyard and chasing the ball at Minto Brown Park. He has become our social standout and greets the many other dogs that run there. Honey Bear has boundless energy and is a handsome guy. With upcoming obedience training on the schedule, he will have an opportunity to learn more special things.
Rocky 368 has gone to his forever home in Lake Oswego. Together with his new buddy, Sammy, a 1 year old dachshund, they will bring joy to Dave and Kathy whose first words back to Golden Bond tell it all. "Rocky, after only being with us two days, is an official member of our household."
Great dog!! We are having a lot of fun with him. Never knew a puppy could be so big. Thank you very much for your vote of confidence. You can be assured that your Golden will be well provided for."
I never had a doubt that the right forever family would come along for me. I am now Woody 402 Montgomery and live in Aloha.
We have quite a large family with 2 other dogs, 4 cats, 2 human girls, a horse, Mom and, of course, my new best pal, Dad. I love to follow Dad around the house and yard and supervise his chores. I have the best family and a wonderful life. Thanks Golden Bond Rescue... I'm hoping to see everyone at the picnic in August, but if that doesn't happen, know that I am grateful to you all.
Woody Montgomery
Buddy 405 has found his new forever home! Bill, Karina and their son and daughter have decided to invite Buddy to be the newest member of their family.
When Buddy first met them, he wasn't quite sure what to think and even barked at Bill for a little bit. However, it didn't take Buddy long to realize that these people were really quite nice and they even brought him a ball to play fetch with. Buddy really enjoyed chasing after the ball but wasn't enthusiastic about giving it back. I guess Buddy hasn't quite learned that yet.
After deciding that Buddy was the dog for them, Bill and family returned the next day to bring Buddy home. This time Buddy was very excited to see them again and very happy to ride off into the sunset with his new forever family.
Cinnabar 388 thinks she may have moved to a zoo. There is Coby, the heeler, who is showing her the ropes. Then, there are Lucy, the ferret, Rocky, Nodac, Kibble, and Dash, the horses, and more cats than she can count.
Of course, there is her new human family too, Wanda and two daughters, Renee and Roxanne. You ask, why does this family want another pooch? The answer is simple, they love her and Cinnabar returns the feeling in spades.
Happy trails, Cinnabar.
When I came to Golden Bond from the shelter, I was very sick. My wonderful foster mom and dad, Reta and Charles, nursed, nurtured and loved me back to good health.
Then they found my new, forever mom and dad, Jan and Rich and I moved to Vancouver to live happily ever after. I even have a new feline friend, Annie. Jan and Rich take me for walks in the park across the street. I love being part of a family.
Thank you, Reta and Charles and Golden Bond.
Signed,
Ashley 371
Maggie 379 has moved in with Mark and Diana in Portland. There she will have her very own house and when they come home, they will receive a very special Maggie welcome. There is her very own back yard to chase squirrels in. And she is looking forward to her very own vacations, hikes, trips to the beach and walks with mom and dad. Ah, the good life! Good luck, Maggie.
With great sadness we report that Maggie has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Sweetie 400 (now Annie) went off to Salem with the Denise and Greg very happily. She and 8 year old David bonded immediately, wrestling together on the grass. We could swear both of them were giggling. By now, she is probably sleeping with David and well acquainted with Sieka, a 14 year old feline of the Siamese persuasion. Well, Annie, we certainly won't think of you as a little orphan anymore. You have your own real live family and a forever home. By the way, watch out for that giggling around Sieka. She might take offense. Enjoy!
Spirit was warmly welcomed by Kylie (age 13) and Sa-leah (age 10) and their parents Mike and Candace. He was very excited on the road trip to Portland, because he somehow knew of the happy times and adventures awaiting him in Portland. The quiet small town life was fun for a while and he had a great time with the other foster dogs and cats, but it was good to be able to pack his special blanket and go to his forever home. Spirit shares a big two story house filled with an incredible amount of love and caring, with his family, two cats and a collie. His day begins early with a morning run. He helps Mike with various projects around the house and yard while Candace is at work and the girls attend school. Evenings are spent playing with his new friends at a nearby dog-friendly park. Spirit is currently learning house and yard rules, and how important it is to get along with the cats. He has begun classes to learn even more new skills. What a happy ending for one of our special Golden Boys!

Prince, formerly Fetch 365
These bright and sunny Summer days have brought many happy changes to my world. When I met Lou and Patty, I could hardly wait to move to my forever home in Newberg. I am so happy in my new family and am always eager to join them in any activity.
Everyone I meet tells me that Prince is the perfect name for such a regal dog that proudly sits in the car and surveys his kingdom at every opportunity. Riding in the car is almost as much fun as playing tug-of-war with my Golden pal, Kasey. We can spend hours playing in the great outdoors, enjoying the fresh air and rolling in the grass.
Life with my new family also includes sessions with a trainer, who comes to see me every week. I proudly show off my newly acquired skills on walks around the neighborhood. My busy days include two walks as well as backyard training. I've also found some special places to curl up for an occasional nap.I'd like to thank all my friends at Golden Bond for the opportunity to fall in love with my special family, and to be able to share my forever home with Kasey.
Abby, formerly Hannah. My young life is so full of happy news that I'd like to share everything with all my Golden Bond friends. When I met Dawn, I was just as pleased as could be and knew my life with her would be everything I hoped for. She decided that my new name would be Abby and with good reason because it is a fine name and fits me perfectly. I also share my new world with my fellow Golden, Duke, who enjoys playing with me. We have so much fun on our morning walks to Vancouver Lake, where we continue to share fun times and good romps. Evening walks are just as much fun.I'm gaining lots of confidence every day. It seems like there are so many things to learn and Dawn says I'm very eager to learn them. When we visited Sunriver on a vacation trip, I learned to swim. I love the great outdoors, and especially enjoy hiking.
I'm just about the happiest puppy you'd ever want to meet and want everyone to know how Golden my life is with Dawn and my new pal, Duke.
Three year old Koty 308 came to Golden Bond from
a pretty miserable background. He was kept in a crate 75% of the time without any humans to love and he was allowed to become obese. Then he was given to a family who essentially starved him in an effort to take off some weight. The family then wondered why he tried to bite one of them who attempted to take food away from him. That's when he came to Golden Bond.He has been nurtured through several foster homes. It's been like putting Humpty Dumpty back together again. First, some thyroid medication to help with his weight. Along the line, our wonderful volunteer, professional trainer, Dan Butcher, helped him out with some socialization and obedience training. Then, surgery on his knees to correct problems that probably resulted from manic bursts of running when let out of his crate. After his surgery, another wonderful foster family, Erin, Ross and son, Devon, nursed him through recovery. Most of the while, in the background, were Trish and Joe who had come to love Koty and asked if they could adopt him. Not only did Trish and Joe help with some of Koty's extraordinary medical expenses, they visited and encouraged him through his recuperation. When he was well enough, Koty went home with Trish and Joe where there was another challenge a stairway. Koty had always been sort of scared of stairs, even before knee surgery. Trish and Joe are patiently and slowly working with him to overcome his fear. And, when it becomes just too much, Joe will carry him so he can sleep in the bedroom with his family. Well, folks, that's a real story of golden retriever rescue! More about Koty Here.
