For the Love of Goldens
Miss Riley (#358) has charmed her way into the heart & home of Bruce, in Portland. What single guy wouldn't love to have such a beautiful strawberry-blonde by his side?! She's a head-turner, that's for sure! While Miss Riley's puppy antics may sometimes challenge Bruce, we're sure that with a lot of love and consistency Riley is going to turn into an awesome dog! Bruce's heart has been ready to welcome another furry companion into his life, after losing his wonderful dog, Nicholas, last fall. Since Bruce works nights, he and Miss Riley will get to spend lots of quality time together during the day. As long as Bruce keeps one hand constantly stroking Miss Riley, she'll be a happy camper! Sometimes beautiful women are "high maintenance" -- but they're
worth it!
Buddy
342 thought he was just going for
a sleep over with Charlie and Jane. So, thinking he was Goldilocks,
he decided to try all the beds - first Charlie's and then Jane's
- and found them both pretty soft. Before bedtime, he treated
his hosts to a short concert (otherwise known as howling) and
showed them how he can walk around the house with a toy in his
mouth and talk at the same time. His antics so charmed his hosts
that they asked him to stay on (the dog that came to dinner?). So-o-o, Buddy
says, if you want to see him, you'll have to come to his new home
in Beaverton. He's sure there will be enough bowls of porridge for
guests.
LUKE
(#346) has been adopted by his foster
parents, Chuck and Miriam.
In the course of learning some hard socialization lessons, Luke
bonded with his foster family and with foster sister Goldie. He has learned
to value affection and the joys of playing and snuggling with
his family. In his new forever home, Luke has the experience and companionship he needs to become a great dog. Happy Valentines
Day and happy trails, Luke!
Hey, guys, I didn't
find a my dad, but I've found a new mom!! I'm DEUCE
332 (alias Queen Bee to anyone who
knows me) and I now live with Audria in
Portland. She gets to stay home with me lots of the time, but
sometimes
she has to go take care of sick people in the hospital. While
she's gone,
there are three cats who are trying to convince me that they rule
the
house. Well, they may have been here first, but I tell you it's
going to
be a shared monarchy - we might even become friends. Just like
me looking
for my dad, my new mom has been looking for me for two years since
her last
golden girl left. I think we're going to do really well together.
Thanks
to Golden Bond, and my long suffering golden foster brother, for
helping me
find Audria.
Petrie,
our country dog who may have been aggressive toward cats, has
been seen tail wagging, touching noses with one cat in her adoptive
family and respecting the dominant cat who let her know who was in charge.
Just a
wonderful story about the adaptability of our wonderful goldens
and the amazing families who bring them into their homes. Tani and Richard had enough love for their cats and for another golden to make the meeting work. They are a knowledgeable, patient family. When they met Petrie,
they recognized her gentlenature and trusted her with their family.
Petrie has earned their trust and appreciation, and will be continuing
to become familiar with the family cats. She has a new family
now and is becoming a trusted member. Her transition from "member
of dog pack" to family member is being completed.Tani and
Richard are greatly helping her on her way.
Bear 350
is now in his new home with Daniel and Linda in Beaverton. There he is becoming acquainted with four feline companions. During
TV time one evening while Bear was relaxing in his crate (door open), one
of the cats
was doing sentinel duty on top of the crate. He's already doing
quite well
with informal obedience training and looking forward to obedience
classes
where things really serious. He's also learning his new name,
Brinkley,
named after the golden in the movie "You've Got Mail".
Who knows, maybe
soon he'll be sending us email messages! Adios, Brinkley. Keep
in touch!
Boy, talk about moving next door! That's just
about what Chipper
359 has
done. Her original owner found her as a stray and wasn't able
to keep her
so released her to Golden Bond after four months. While on a walk
with her
foster family, she met Harlan and Betty Ann who live not far from
her
foster home in Florence. It must have something to do with Valentine's
day
because it was love at first sight. During the time that Harlan
and Betty
Ann were getting qualified with Golden Bond, they visited and
took Chipper
for walks frequently. There was no question in anybody's mind
that Chipper
belonged with Harlan and Betty Ann. On the same day that they
were
notified of their approval and of permission to adopt from Golden
Bond, the
adoption took place. (Zero days from approval to adoption - that
must be a
record for Golden Bond!) Chipper, we didn't know you for very
long, but,
as you went through Golden Bond, you found your forever home.
Happy
Valentine's Day!
George 351
is now at his forever home in Lake Oswego with Gayle and her
bevy of boys, Ike, 8 and twins Luke and Owen, 6. George has lots
of
energy to keep up with Gayle who is a runner and plenty left over
to romp
with the boys and go on family outings. He has been told that
he's going
to attend obedience classes where he will learn good golden manners
and
become more socialized. Adios, George. We look forward to seeing
you at
the Golden Bond picnic next summer.
Norbert (formerly Bogey) 358 has been
adopted after just a week in foster care. Bogey was picked up
as a stray in Winston on December 12th and languished, unclaimed,
in the Winston pound until January 8th when he was brought to
Saving Grace, the Roseburg shelter. He was freed from jail on
January 19th after several visits from his foster humans who determined
him to be the wonderful, mellow dog that he is. Bogey had a vet
check and bath after leaving the shelter which spruced up his
burnished gold coat nicely. His new owners, Bob and Sherry of Gresham,
saw his bio on Golden Bond's web site the morning it was posted
and called to set up a meeting with Bogey on the 25th. They drove
all the way to Roseburg to meet Bogey, because they wanted to
see him in his living situation. They brought their 4 year old
golden girl, Daggett, and their venerable 16 year old terrier
mix girl, CC. Bogey was a perfect gentleman with both girl dogs
and their humans, charming them instantly with his easy-going
ways. Bob and Sherry have been looking for a pal for Daggy (as
she is called) and feel they've found him. Daggy initiated play
with Bogey in our yard by running loops and inviting him to chase
her in circles. He responded happily to her overtures. Bogeys new name is Norbert.I called to make sure they
got home safely last night and Sherry reported that she and Bob
had taken turns driving and sitting in the back seat with the
dogs, who slept "with a dog head on each leg" of their
humans (elderly CC got the front seat for the journey). Once Norbert
arrived at his new home, Daggy showed him around and invited him
to play, as well as introducing him to the neighbors, who also
have goldens.Happy trails Norbert!
Huntley 336
has moved in with Tim and Teri in Salem. He and four cats will settle the space issue, with the help of his new mom and dad,
and six year old, another Golden Bond alumna, will have their six acre spread
to explore. Huntley is going to miss his wonderful foster mom
and dad, Patty and Leon, but it'll be easy for him to settle into
his new forever home with his very own forever mom and dad. Cheerio,
Huntley. Have a good one!
Louie
353 has gone to his new forever home
at the coast with parents Greg and Barbara, and canine brother
Hank. His new home is just a short walk to the beach so he will
have lots of wonderful walks along the surf with his new family
to look forward to. His foster Mom knew he'd found a happy home
when his potential parents came to meet him, and he immediately
stuck himself to them. He hardly even looked at his foster Mom,
which was a good thing in her eyes - it meant he'd found his people!
You were a joy to your foster parents and your babysitters Louie,
and we're glad you found such a loving spot to spend the rest
of your years!
Ruby 352
is now a family member with Mary Jo and Maurice on their four
acre ranch in St. Paul. Her best fur friend will be Brady Beagle
who is
seven years old, but she'll also get to know six cats and four
gigantic
dogs that eat grass in the field and whinny for attention. There
are so
many things for her to do like keeping Mary Jo company in the
house,
walking and running with Maurice, swimming in the pond and, maybe,
going
hunting with Maurice. With her love for retrieving and great nose,
she'll
be a natural as a field dog. It sure beats the Linn County Shelter
where
her foster mom found her and then nurtured her during her stay
with Golden
Bond. Ruby, it looks like a wonderful life ahead for you. Enjoy
it!
I'm Honey 299
and I'm kinda shy, but I screwed up my courage so I could
tell everyone the good news. My new, forever, mom and dad are
Patty and
Leon. They are also my foster mom and dad who asked me if I'd
stay forever
(thought they'd never ask!). If it hadn't been for their caring,
patience
and persistence, I'd probably still be lost because I tried to
run away
from home once when I was really scared. While I was lost, I met
a new
friend named Kate Bast who helped me to understand that my foster
family
really loved me and wanted to help me. Kate helped me find my
way home again. There! I've said my piece. Thank you and love to
everyone at Golden
Bond. Honey.
Yippee!! I
have a forever home! I'm Daisy
(317). My foster mom
told me I was just coming here for the week end because her house
was full of guests. (I really think she didn't want to get my
hopes up!) But we hit it off from the start and Holly and Aaron
have asked me to be part of their family. It didn't take me long
to decide! The rest of the family includes Sparky and Berlioz,
two furry felines, and Baron, a golden boy who
graduated from Golden Bond two years ago. Baron has allergies
like me, so we'll have fun comparing the "itch of the day".
Holly and Aaron are pros
when it comes to treating dogs with allergies, though, so Baron
and I might
just have to spend our time playing. The one sad part is that I
am leaving my wonderful foster mom who nursed me through so many
tough times and has gotten me to be a healthy dog again. Thank
you, Shandy. I'll never forget you.
Hi,
I'm Lucy (327) and I just came to live with William, Jennifer,
Rachael,
Billy and Cameron in a place they call Beaverton (I haven't met
any beavers
yet. I guess I wouldn't know what to do if I did meet one.) I've
moved around a lot recently so I'm still pretty nervous, but I'm
trying really hard to learn how things are done here. They talk
about going to doggie school, too, and I think that will be fun.
I love playing with the kids. If I promise not to chase the ball,
I hope I'll be able to go to soccer games and watch "my"
kids play. Thanks, Golden Bond. Love, Lucy
ANNIE (349)
here. Hey, Tod and Sandi and Kimi, it was great to be with you
all, but I've found a swell new home with Jane and Jim and my
new friend, 3 year old, Australian Shepherd, Merlin. Merlin is
deaf, so I'm learning to be his ears. When mom calls, I know to
come in and Merlin follows me. I
know I can help him in other ways too - when I learn what he needs.
Today
we played together a little. I think we'll be good friends. My
new mom
told me how nicely I walk on a leash, 'cause I guess Merlin wants
to take
her for the walk instead of the other way round. Thank you Tod
and Sandi
and Golden Bond for helping me find this jim-dandy new family.
Love, Annie.
Wilford
(#340 ) spent a wonderful 5 weeks
in Central Oregon with his foster family, where he got to play
with foster brother (Talus) and the three resident house cats.
He was adopted on Jan 2nd and now gets to experience another attraction
for Oregon (THE BEACH!). Since it was decided that Wilford would
do best in a home with older children and larger dogs, or a lack
thereof, his new family is perfect! Wilford will be enjoying the
status of only pet. YEAH!! All the attention for Wilford!!! On
his first night home, he convinced his new mom and dad that the
bed really is big enough for three! He will be playing on the
beach with his new family, Eugene and Kirsten, what a lucky dog!
So begins a wonderful new experience for all concerned!
It has been
quite a journey for Teeger
(#329) from his "garage prisoner"
status to happy member of a new family. Along the way, Teeger
was helped by a kind-hearted friend who encouraged his release
to Golden Bond, cared
for by two wonderful foster families who enjoyed his company and
laughed at his antics during the holidays, and watched by a caring
vet who advised about nutrition and care. When David, Vicki, and
Sammie (their sweet 13 year old
Golden) drove from Portland to Corvallis to meet Teeger, he seemed
to know that the long journey -- so full of new homes, different
people, dogs, cats, and who-knows-how-many-brands-of-dog-food
-- might be coming to an end. Teeger greeted Vicki with an abundance
of doggie kisses and could hardly contain his excitement. By the
end of their visit, Teeger was curled up at David's feet next
to Sam, settled, calm, listening to their words, and watching
them with those dark, trusting eyes. David and Vicki bring their
many years of experience with Goldens to Teeger, and are so ready
and willing to help him become the beautiful, proud dog he can
be. Teeger, you have certainly earned your freedom. Thank you
from Golden Bond for the chance to know you.
Cooper 338
has moved from his wonderful foster family in Eugene to another
wonderful home with Liz and Wayne in Gresham. Liz and Wayne lost
their 10 year old golden, Boe, about a year ago and, since then,
11 year old feline, Pookey, has taken over Boe's role. So, Pookey
will be in charge of
teaching Cooper the house rules and regs - with a little help
from Wayne and Liz. He will also probably take up jogging with
his new parents to
work off some of his abundant energy and, maybe, a few pounds
too. Cooper, have a long and happy life and take good care of
your new family.
February 11,2003With
great sadness we report that Remington (345) passed away peacefully
in his sleep on February 9th. He had been with his new owner,
Dana, for only five weeks when congestive heart failure took him
to the Rainbow Bridge. Those five weeks were the happiest in his
life because he went everywhere with Dana, even to work where
he was admired and loved by
all. We know that Cara will take comfort in having made Remington's
last
days so wonderful for him. All of us at Golden Bond extend to
Dana our
sincerest condolences.
Remington (345)
has taken his elder statesman appearance and manners to his new
home in Portland with Dana. On his walks with Dana, he is sure
to impress all the neighborhood, canines and humans alike, with
his
dignified, but debonair, demeanor. His new mom, Dana, has a long
history of loving and caring for rescue cats and dogs. Remington
is sure to receive all the love he has missed over the years.
We know he will retaliate with all his love in return. A very
Happy New Year to Remington and Dana from all of us at Golden
Bond.
CINDER
(276) - I got what I wished for. Santa
had a family for me . I get to go live with Kevin and Ann andtheir
dog Bogie. They live near Forest Park in Northwest Portland, and
theylove to go on long walks. I sure hope they love me a lot.
Thank you Golden Bond and Thank you Santa. My wish came true.
Cinder.
Jessie
344 has gone to a doggie paradise
in Williams to live with Ray and
Peg. There, she will share duties with 13 year old golden, Polly.
They
will be responsible for patrolling the 33 acre, fenced, plant
nursery,
barking at deer, supervising Ray, Peg and their employees in their
horticultural tasks, and acting as official greeters to visitors
at the
nursery. Best of all Ray and Peg live and have their office on
the
premises, so Jessie can be with her humans 24/7 and have a golden
friend to
hang out with. Jessie left with instructions from her foster family
to
take her responsibilities seriously and, knowing Jessie, she surely
will!
Sweet Foxy
(307), surrendered by her owner who has moved to an assisted
living facility, is now at home with John and Jaime in Hood River.
We have received an email from John and Jaime that tells it all
better than we ever could.
"We couldn't help but
notice, on the bottom of the dog surrender
questionnaire, the former owner's comments....."just love
her and care for her." We wish that you could pass on to
her that Foxy, within a week, is totally at home. She has come
out of her shell, goes for walks, chases her ball,
sleeps with us (yeah, we can't resist), sleeps under my desk,
plays gently
with our grandchildren, gets along with our cats, and is a totally
wonderful girl. We couldn't be happier. We can't imagine the pain
of giving up one's dog, especially after 10 years. If you could
pass along our comments, it may ease her mind to know that Foxy
is loved and cared for.
Thanks again for your help."

Lucy (335),
a bright and energetic puppy has been adopted by Canine Assistance
Partners, Inc. of Eugene to train to become an assistance dog
for a disabled person. Lucy displays a willingness to please,
a quickness
to learn and a sensitivity to people and animals that make her
a good candidate for a future helping a partner with physical
tasks, increasing his independence and, most importantly, being
a friend. Lucy is the second Golden Bond dog to be accepted for
training in this important and wonderful work. Maggie (#211) recently graduated and is now
a full fledged service dog with a young woman. We send Lucy to
this new endeavor with a firm belief that she will blossom as
she finds her calling.
Rocky (339)
has gone home with Ted and JeriLyn and their two children, Emma
and Syclinie. Rocky's history with his foster family confirmed
that he was meant to be in a home with children. At the same time,
his new family was looking for a golden who is a little more mature
and dependable with their
children. It looks like a perfect fit. Best wishes to all of you
as you
begin your new life together.
Spirit (297)
has been adopted by Jessica and Jonathan, who have fostered Spirit
for about five months. In this time, she has transformed from
a thin, wispy coated white dog, to a solid 58 pound, nearly completely
tan colored beautiful Golden, due to successful treatment for
hypothyroidism and better nutrition. Spirit is an eight year old
special needs Golden, who must be fed carefully and monitored
to prevent esophageal problems from reoccurring. She has accepted
the resident puppies and former Golden Bond foster dogs, Ginny
(17 months) and Lizzy Mae (9 months) with great tolerance, playing
as wildly as the puppies at times. Fortunately,
exercise is a major benefit to Spirit, who is a master at chasing
and returning tennis balls, and has mentored Lizzy Mae well in
that activity. Spirit raises Golden friendliness to new heights
and is always
in your presence, all day long, a truly great and loyal companion.
Spirit has adapted to the presence of three indoor/outdoor kitties
but watches them carefully as they seem very much like some of
her stuffed toys. She is very happy being curled up under the
Christmas tree, close to her
younger friends, in her forever home.
Morgan (270)
has received an early Christmas gift this year by finding his
new best friends and forever home! It was an early Christmas gift
too for
Jon, Reesa, Joshua and Ryan from La Center, WA. who recently invited
Morgan
into their hearts and lives. Morgan was at first timid to meet
his
soon-to-be family but, it wasn't long before he realized that
Jon and family were actually really nice and excited to meet him.
In no time at
all he was sitting in Reesa's lap wanting to be hugged and scratched
behind
the ears. Since arriving at his new home Morgan and the cat, Princess
Snowball, have made their acquaintances and have mutually agreed
that they
don't want to have anything to do with each other. Jon says Morgan
has
already taken to sleeping with 5 year old Joshua in his bed which
is
exactly what they wanted. There is a lot for Morgan to explore
in his new
home and soon Morgan will have much more to investigate after
his family
builds a new house on their 5 acre lot. Up next for Morgan will
be
obedience classes so he will learn good canine citizenry. Morgan
has been
through a lot in his young life so far. It is exciting to see
this new
chapter in Morgan's life open up to such a bright and loving future.
Murray
(#343) jumped into Blaine & Mary's
large traveling van, and never looked back! Curled up on his own
dog bed, he could already envision the family's annual driving
trip to Michigan. Swimming, you say?! You bet, at relatives' Lake
Michigan home! Murray has some big shoes to fill. But, our BIG
guy, Murray, is up to the challenge. Mary & Blaine's red golden,
Dylan, died of cancer in October. Their home has not been complete
without a red dog to love. Murray and their golden-mix, Meesha,
will enjoying playing and retrieving together. Mary & Blaine
are getting used to a golden who loves to lean on them, as just
a friendly reminder to stroke his gorgeous head constantly! Enjoy
your life in Portland, Murray!
Charlie, our little cutie who had to
go to doggie camp at Charlton Kennels to learn some appropriate
manners, has been adopted by Catherine and Keith of Portland.
And I don't think you could find a more excited family of three,
than these.Charlie is going to be spoiled, as he should be, by
this very loving and caring couple. Keith works out of their home
and Catherine works just three days a week so Charlie will have
lots of company to continue his high learning curve toward perfect
manners. Columbia Dog Training classes will also help this sweet
guy remember all he has learned. Catherine and Keith say that
he is definitely a puppy and just makes them laugh. Isn't that
what young Goldens are all about? Christmas in this household
will be one happy place. I think Santa already has Charlie on
his "Nice List," so we don't have to worry about him.Merry
Christmas, Charlie, your best Christmas' are yet to come!
