Adoptions June
to August 22, 2002
Our Ocean has been adopted. He is now living in Milwaukie
area with Darlene and her Mother. Darlene was looking for a golden
that is mellow and would be gentle around her mother but also
has a little spunk and personality. Ocean fit the bill. When we
took him over to visit he laid on the deck- sat next to them for
petting but when the tennis ball was picked up he was ready to
retrieve. Darlene will be taking him to Detroit Lake for swimming
(Lucky dog) He now has a beautiful grassy backyard with a nice
pond and running water to listen to while lounging on the deck.
Ocean#285 (special needs)
is a tall, four year old male. He loves to swim and will
be the first one in and the last one out. He enjoys chasing sticks
especially if you throw them into the water. He has recently learned
how to play with other dogs and will even instigate a play session.
He is a nice freindly boy who will follow you around waiting for
that belly scratch or will just lay by your side and keep you
company. He is an independent, sensitive, mellow and sweet boy
that has special needs. He has a disease which affects the muscles
in his head. He is taking an inexpensive medication for this condition.
The disease and the medication cause minor problems for Ocean.
He is unable to open his mouth as far as other dogs and the medication
atrophies his other muscles. It also makes him hungry and thirsty.
Because he drinks a lot of water he would benefit from a home
with a dog door. He has good house manners and is house trained.
He is also easy on the yard and garden. He doesn't dig or chew
and barks a moderate amount. He is ok with other dogs and children
over 5, but would prefer to be an only dog. He knows his basic
commands and comes nicely when called. He needs work in learning
how to walk on a leash nicely, but is smart and with patience
we are confident that he will bloom in this area. This very nice
dog is looking for a home that can pay a little extra attention
to his health issues and give him the love that he deserves. If
you are willing to take him swimming that would be a plus! If
you are that family, you'll be richly rewarded!

Sadie Sue took the
scenic route to her new home in Parkdale this past week-end. Sadie
will be living with humans, Linda and Bill, and new dog friend,
BJ.BJ has been looking for just the right calm, female companion
for some time now. In fact their application dates back to December
of 2000. Linda and Bill wanted a calming companion for BJ and
when Sadie came on the website, she seemed to answer all of their
needs. BJ has of course, grown up quite a bit since then, but
being that he still is full of energy, Sadie will have a wonderful
playmate.Linda reports that Sadie and BJ are getting to know each
other and becoming friends as they had hoped. Bill and Linda both
work so BJ will have lots of company when they are gone.Best of
luck to our Sadie and as Jeanie, the foster mom, reports, she
left none too soon as she was starting to win over their hearts
as happens so many times with our wonderful foster homes. But
now Sadie Sue has her very own home and dog friend with lots of
acreage on which to run and play.
SADIE
SUE # 292 Sadie Sue is an
adorable, petite golden! She insists she's just the right size
for someone's lap!! If you are looking for a smaller golden (under
50 lbs.), this might be your gal! Sadie is a 5 yr. old spayed
female, with beautiful expressive eyes. She's a little timid at
first, but warms up and worms her way into your heart. Sadie Sue
totally ignores cats and gets along fine with dogs, after some
initial "first meeting" snarls. Sadie gets along great
with older children (the kids in her foster home are 10 &
14), but is nervous about hair-pulling tots. Sadie Sue was adopted
from a shelter a couple of years ago, and has been through two
families since then. Because of all these changes in a short time,
she is timid and shy at first. But, after a couple of weeks in
her foster home, her personality came through! Sadie loves to
be petted or brushed, but is not demanding of attention (like
some goldens, who shall remain nameless!). Sadie likes to spend
time in the backyard, and loves tennis balls. Although, she doesn't
bring them back -- on land! On water -- that's another story!!
Sadie Sue is a retrieving machine in the water!!! :) This little
gal LOVES to swim, and raced two younger dogs to get the ball.....bringing
it back to the shore every time! Sadie would love her new family
to take her for an occasional swim, but she is happy lounging
around and being close to her humans most of the time. If someone
is looking for a mellow golden, of middle-age, Sadie Sue would
be a great companion. Is this adorable "little golden"
the one for you?
I'm
SAM (295), and I didn't waste any time finding the forever
family I want to share my energy and enthusiasm with. When Kathleen
and Brad and their four teenagers, Cameron, Patrick, Kirby and Olivia showed
up at my foster family's door, I knew right away that they were winners.
Gosh, who could turn down two boys to wrestle with and two girls to fuss
over me. It's a good thing that they have a Suburban because we
were all smiling, wagging tail and waving when we left my wonderful
foster family who taught me so much in a short time - and shared
their love and their home. Thank you, Erin and Ross. And, thank
you, Kim and Roland, for believing there could be a life for me
outside that shelter. I won't forget you.
NEW! Sam
#295 is a gentle giant of
a dog weighing in at 96 lbs. He is a Golden mix,(probably some
St. Bernard) he has very soulful eyes. At 19 months old he is
still very much a puppy. He loves to chew, but knows a dog toy
from a piece of furniture. Nylabones are his favorite. He is very
smart and eager to please. Since being with his foster family, he has learned
to sit and lay down. Stay and wait will come when he is more mature
and secure in his life. He loves to hug and be hugged. He really
likes to wrestle and would do well in a home with teenagers. He
chases cats if they run, but we don't know what he would do if
one stopped. He likes to play with other dogs who do not try to
dominate him. He takes treats gently and licks you awake when
he thinks it is time to get up. He can do this without setting
a paw on the bed. Sam is unconditional love for his forever family.
With consistant training and some maturity, he will be a most
excellent dog.
HI! I'm Max! (#283)What
more is there to say? As you can see I'm a handsome boy. But,
let me tell you more about me. I am 1 1/2 yrs old, still a puppy,
(an overgrown pup) I have those soft as silk puppy ears. I have
a beautiful fur coat, slick and shiny. My feathers are starting
to grow, I see this happening on my tail so I tend to chase it
until I am dizzy.I love to play, especially chasing the light
from a flashlight on the ground, (that's one way my foster family
wears me out). I like to chase balls, and I like throwing them
for myself, I can entertain myself too! My foster mom says I am
a real clown! I come when called, I know sit and lie down, am
totally housebroke and crate trained. I am still young so I like
to chew, my foster mom gives me dog safe chewy things to keep
me busy. Cats? No problem, I can live with them. I also like being
with the other 3 goldens I live with, so if you have another dog
that's ok. I'm just waiting to meet my people!
Update August 14, 2006: Austin crosses the Rainbow Bridge. Read more.
, an 8 year old neutered male, is a wonderful, sweet, obedient, confident,
exceptional dog that has absolutely thrived in foster care. He
had no trouble adjusting at all to his new surroundings. He was
instantly bombarded with lots of dog interaction, which was definitely
new to him. He took some time to adjust to all these new dogs,
but has done a fantastic job of learning his "doggie manners"
and communication skills with other dogs. He is such an easy dog.
He is totally housebroken and knows just about every command in
the book - sit, go lay down, down, leave it, come, no, off.etc.
He lives with 2 cats in his foster home and completely ignores
them. His personality provides the best of both worlds - mellow,
but playful at times. He loves to play bow and bark and run in
circles in the yard. He walks great on a leash, takes treats nicely
and loves people. He is recovering nicely from skin allergies
and an ear infection. He should receive good flea treatment to
keep his skin and coat in good condition the rest of his life.
He would do great in a home with or without other pets. He is
a good watchdog too - alert and barks when necessary. This gem
of a dog will make a wonderful addition to someone's family.Update April 5, 2004 Holly asked me to check in and let you know how great she is doing! She has been a wonderful addition to our family. She has taken to agility almost as much as she has to chasing balls into the Deschutes River. After less than a year in competition, she has progressed to the "open" classes and is bringing home lots of squeaky toys (and ribbons). She has a spirit that is unstoppable and a heart you can't match. She has become our Brittany's best friend and this last month when he had hip surgery, she was there to be gentle and caring when he needed it and to play tug of war when he started feeling better. We are not sure what we did before she joined our family she is amazing!
Larry and Nancy
Update November 2002 Holly is
doing great! She has been traveling with Rusty (our Brittany)
and I to dog agility trials. She has learned to stay in the Xpen
while Rusty competes and not to bark encouragement at him. She
and Rusty are great friends and although we get strange looks
from people when we tell them they are brother and sister by different
parents, that's exactly how they act - like siblings. Holly and
I started her obedience classes two weeks ago and her agility
class this week. She is very smart, sometimes stubborn but always
eager to please. I hope to have her in agility competition by
March and obedience trials by April or May. I have recently applied
for her ILP at the AKC so she can compete in AKC events. She is
such a sweetheart - we couldn't be happier and I don't think she
could be either.
Nancy
Nine month old HOLLY (#284) has begun her new life in Bend with Nancy and Larry. She also has a new canine friend, 2 year old, Brittany Spaniel, Rusty, as well a feline friend who wishes to remain anonymous. Like Rusty, Holly is going to learn to be an agility dog and has already attended one competition as a guest. Some of Nancy's words tell it all,"We have her! She is a doll! So far she and Rusty are getting along fine, they have played, run together and only had one moment of snapping (small instance where Rusty wanted to rest and Holly wanted to play). We picked her up Saturday evening, she camped in our VW camper Saturday night and went to the agility trial on Sunday. She got a chance to go for some walks and to see a lot of dogs."Last night we had her in the house all night and she and Rusty both curled up in their beds and slept until 5am when Holly decided to play with the squeaky toy - had to do a trade for a quiet chew toy :)"Nancy also added, about Holly's foster family, "By the way, what wonderful people Julie and Kevin are! They are very caring and supportive of the dogs."We hope to have the opportunity to watch Holly in agility competition in about a year. She is going to have a ball!
Holly
#284 This young dog has
a fine featured, pretty, feminine face and well proportioned,
medium sized body. At seven months (d.o.b, 10/29/01), weighing
50# presently, she will probably not be over 60#, full grown.
She's still very much a puppy at heart and has puppy clumsiness
which she will probably grow out of. In the short time she's been
in rescue, she's learned "sit", "come", and
"down", (though she still sometimes greets by jumping
up and will need continued work with this.) She comes from a background
where she was left alone for long periods of time. So being alone
upsets her. She exhibits needy and anxious behavior when the person
she's attached to first comes home, but calms down with positive
attention. This separation anxiety will probably subside in time
when she gets into a permanent home and she feels confident she
will not be abandoned. She's submissive around other dogs and
after getting to know them is playful and interactive. She is
fine around cats as long as they don't run. She'd be great with
someone who wants a companion in outdoor activities and just as
happy being at the center of a loving family. She loves long hikes
in the forest. With training, she could become a competent work
dog (sledding, search and rescue, therapy). Her personality is
very appealing, sweet, mild mannered, affectionate. She's intelligent,
medium in energy level (not hyper, not completely laid back),
highly interactive with people, good with children, is playful,
and eager to learn and please, which makes her very trainable.
"Gentleman
Jake" (#273) is enjoying his
first days in his forever home with David and Kristine and their
children, 7 year old Kalie and 2 year old Ashley. Jake's new family
put much thought and time into finding just the right dog to grow
up with the kids, go jogging on the path with mom, explore the
Christmas tree farm and go camping with the whole family. Having
come from a family with fairly young children, he took great delight
in receiving hugs from the Kalie and Ashley. Everyone decided
that the girls had just gotten a brother added to the family.Jake's
foster mom said, "When he drove away with his new
family, I felt a sense of rightness and happiness for him. What
a wonderful thing to be part of this time and share the transition
with this beautiful, loving, trusting dog."Jake (#273) is looking for his new best friend.
He is a 12 month old,honey-gold colored, wavy coated, 67 pound
bundle of fun . . . with lots of playful, inquisitive "youngster,"
an affectionate, well-mannered nature and calm temperament. It's
easy to see why his foster family has completely fallen for him!
Jake has adapted so well with the resident female rescue Golden,
two teenage children, an older dog, several rabbits, and a foster
mom who works part time. He greets the younger neighborhood children,
plays with other dogs, loves to fetch, go on long walks, ride
in the car, and be close to his family. Occasionally, a stray
sock or shoe gets transported around the house, but Jake willingly
exchanges them for acceptable toys. He knows sit, come, and wait,
asks to go outside to relieve himself, and will be a quick learner
for continued training. Jake's owner made a tough, responsible
decision to place him with Golden Bond Rescue when home and work
situations changed. It was a sad goodbye for this beautiful dog
and his owner. Jake has clearly been a well-loved part of the
family. With a puppy heart, a willing attitude, and a trusting
nature, Jake is ready for a loving home. Lucky new owners who
make this dog part of their family! You will have a golden best
friend.
Tyler
#265 has a new home
with Kim and Dan, and in keeping with their Olympic "heros"
names for Goldens has been renamed Bode
(Bo-dee) after Bode Miller the downhill skier. He's responding
to his new name very well.Kim says Bode is a very sweet dog, and
gets along great with their other Golden Jones. It's like they
were meant to be brothers, and they enjoy playing together. Bode
is adapting to his new surroundings, yard and using a doggie door
was a snap. Kim and Dan love to spoil their four legged "children".
The dogs were off for a swim when I got an update from Kim. She
joked they might need a bigger couch, so Dan also has room to
crash too... Sounds like you've got a great new home Bode! Tyler #265
- A spunky 50lb boy who is about six months old is looking for
a good home. He is housebroken, but will need access to the yard
every few hours. Tyler loves to be in the middle of everything
and he would love to give you 100% of his love and attention.
Tyler gets along with cats, other dogs, and even the ferret in
his foster home. Training will be needed to help him learn the
basic commands. You will always find him carrying something around
in his mouth to play with. This guy loves a good game of fetch.
Tyler will need an active household with plenty of room to run
and companions to play with to bloom into the Golden Companion
we know he can be. If you've got energy and love to spare for
a puppy, this is the guy for you!
Tina # 274 is now
known as Cuddles, as she is affectionate and loves to cuddle up
to her new owner Maureen. Cuddles is learning how to be an inside
dog after living the first five years in an outdoor kennel. Maureen
knows it will take time and effort to get Cuddles housetrained,
plus learn how to play and enjoy being a part of the family. Cuddles
goes on daily walks, and is on a special diet and medicine to
help her coat and skin. She likes to follow Maureen from room
to room, and very much wants to please. With time and continued
work, Cuddles can only continue to make progress. Maureen loves
to work in her yard, and Cuddles is happy to keep her company.
They have even taken a trip to the
beach, and Cuddles seemed to enjoy it. Maureen thought it was
good for Cuddles to see other dogs playing and having fun. With
time she will be ready to join in!
Tina
#274 is a 5- year old cutie
pie! She's on the small side at approximately 50 lbs. Tina came
to rescue from a kennel where she has been outside with other
dogs without much human contact. Now that she has had a taste
of the good life, she is very very happy being with people- she
is always smiling and wagging her tail, especially when you talk
to her. She feels more secure when close to people. She does not
like being left alone, even if she is with other dogs. (Tina gets
along very well with other dogs ). But what she really craves
is human contact. She has some separation anxiety and would be
best served in a home where she does not have to be left alone.
She does not yet have trust that people who leave her will come
back. But she is very people oriented and with time will learn.
While in foster care, she has had to learn everything from the
beginning. Housetraining, basic commands, leashes- all these things
are new to this sweet little bundle. Tina is great with children.
She adores the foster family's 12-year-old boy, who loves to play
with Tina. Since she hasn't spent much time around people, she
is learning to play. She is also ok with cats. Despite the puppy-like
behaviors, Tina is one of the sweetest dogs you will find. She
is very affectionate and is very comfortable as long as people
are near. Tina has many wonderful qualities despite not ever having
been trained. With time, patience and a family to love her, Tina
will become the best dog anyone could hope for.
We were fortunate to be able to take Red to Raymond and see the wonderful Goldentown property that will be its eventual permanent home. Upon arrival, there were the customary introduction maneuvers with the 9 goldens in his new pack and the exploration of the Goldentown compound. Red then inspected the house and found "his spot" on a throw rug at the foot of Helen and Bob's bed, whereupon, he took a four hour nap to recuperate from the events of the day. That was his announcement that he had moved in and planned to stay.
All of us at Golden Bond are grateful that Red has the opportunity to live at Goldentown and we wish him a long and happy life. Anyone wanting to learn more about the work of Goldentown can view their web site here.
June 28,2002
Hi Diana and everyone,
We are thrilled to have Red with us! He is such a sweet boy who is now stopping by for loving and scratching as he makes his "rounds!"
We know it's not easy for even the most well-rounded golden to come into a place with so many other dogs, but despite all the chaos, Red has managed to make himself at home.
He has tried his paws at playing but gets himself a little too excited so we have to stop play sessions and let him calm down. I suspect with time he will get the knack of the game ;-)
We'll be heading back to Goldentown for the long 4th of July weekend so Red will have lots more room to hone his playing skills!
Thanks to Diana and everyone at Golden Bond for giving us the opportunity to make Red part of our wonderful gaggle of geriatric goldens!
Cheers,
Helen and Bob
July 24, 2002 Update on Red
Tosa #278 will be gradually learning a
new name of Brinkley to go with her new home with Rochelle and Steve.
At first Rochelle thought Brinkley was almost subdued in the change
from her foster home (with three lively Golden companions)to being
an only dog. Brinkley might have been a bit overwhelmed with her
new lifestyle and routine, however is quickly getting the hang
of it. Brinkley gets to accompany Rochelle to work, go for rides
in the car, play with dogs at work and with Rochelle and Steve's
families. Rochelle thinks she might have been confused about the
car at first, thinking it meant she was being moved to another
home. After a week, she now leaps in the car for a ride, and is
back to eating her meals with enthusiasm. She is learning to recognize
the other dogs at work, plus other family members' dogs. Brinkley
is very playful with these dogs, ignores the two cats, and when
alone with Steve and Rochelle she wants lots of love and attention.
What an ideal set up for a people-loving Golden!
Update July 12, 2002
Hi Patty,I
just wanted to give you a little update on Brinkley's progress...we
took her on her first camping trip over the 4th of July weekend.
Wewent
to Rock Creek Reservoir (near Wamic and Pine Hollow). She played
in the
creek, swam in the reservoir and played with my sister's dog.
She was
filthy dirty and desperately in need of a bath once we arrived
home!
Sheslept in the car at night because she was afraid of the dark,
but other
thanthat she had a grand time (and so did we)!I hope you can open
the attached picture. We were loading up to comehomeand she looked
so cute peering out of the back of Steve's truck! She is now definitely
part of our family and we are all truly enjoyingournew life together!
Thank you so much for being so instrumental in her
placement with us, and for all of your input to help us through
the
transition.I hope you had a nice holiday and I hope all is well
with you and your
family.Take care,Rochelle #278 Tosa,
is a sweet year old female in need of a new home. She is a great
dog to hug because she melts in your arms and loves to give doggie
kisses. She came to us in great shape, her coat is absolutely
wonderful, very thick and soft. She was well taken care of at
her original home, just lacking complete attention. An olympic
swimmer she is, no hesitation at all about jumping in the water
. She still isn't sure about the dog door. She sleeps either next
to the bed or at the foot of bed next to her foster brother. She
loves to be close to other dogs, like following them like a shadow
on walks. She will be 1 yr old in July, the vet says she is healthy,
has had all her shots, and has been spayed. She will makea wonderful
companion for anyone wanting a truly SWEET Golden. She LOVES other
Dogs, adults and kids.
After checking the website daily for just the
right dog, Sugar #
286 was the one Linda and Bill just
had to meet. This sweetheart truly lives up to her name, being
very well mannered and wanting hugs and kisses. Which will come
in very handy with two young children, Willa and Griffin, and
a new baby in the household. Willa took to Sugar immediately,
petting and playing with her. Griffin at only two years of age
was a little hesitant. However in the days since Sugar has joined
their family, he too is growing to love Sugar. Sugar goes on three
walks a day, plus play time outside with Linda and the children.
With her show girl coat Sugar also gets brushed almost every day.
She is eager to meet the neighborhood dogs, and has already made
new friends. Linda reports that Sugar is a real joy, and the sweetest
dog they have ever met. How could she not be, with a name of Sugar SUGAR (#286) is a 7-year-old affectionate girl with
a personality to match her name. She was released to Golden Bond
by a responsible family whose home and lifestyle had changed,
leaving very little time for a dog and no way to keep one securely
fenced. Sugar has wonderful house manners. She gets along with
everyone in her foster home, and will play with tennis balls and
chew toys. She has invited the foster cat to play, but without
success. In her younger days, Sugar had avery high prey drive,
and she hasn't quite forgotten the thrill of the chase. She needs
a home where people are around most of the time, and another dog
for extra company would be a plus. With her fine hair andshow-dog-type
coat, Sugar will also need commitment to regular grooming. If
you're the right family with time and loving care, Sugar is ready
to sweeten your life.
Thanks to Dan Butcher,
who has had Cosmo at Charlton Kennels and worked consistently with
him, Cosmo became very adoptable and the first person to visit
him fell in love! Cosmo has been adopted by Peggy, who in fact
had given up a dog to Golden Bond because of her work and travel
schedule were just too much. Once her job changed, she was on
our doorstep wanting another dog. She really missed having a big
guy around the house.Cosmo will be the only dog in the house but
will be joining a 14 year old cat. Peggy likes to take walks daily
and this will be right up Cosmo's alley as he has learned to heal
beautifully from Dan. Peggy will also sign up for classes with
Columbia Dog Training where Dan and Jane will get to continue
to see Cosmo improve his dog manners. The timing on Cosmo becoming
a more adoptable dog and Peggy deciding she just couldn't live
without a big Golden around the house was perfect. This was a
match made......... at Charlton Kennels! (Which by the way we
are very fortunate, they will house and work with our dogs when
necessary:)Update
July 2002 I just wanted to thank
you and Patsy for giving me Bailey and give you an update. He
is absolutely the most wonderful dog. He has fit in with ease.
When I brought him home, Ferrarri, my fourteen year old cat greeted
him as though Bailey was his long lost brother and they are best
friends and sleep together! I used to have her on my bed, now
I have no one... When we go for walks, everyone admires him and
the little kids adore him. (He sits like a gentleman and receives
hugs and kisses like they are his due.) Charlton kennels did a
great job with him and he is a dream to take on a walk. We started
/continued obedience school last night and he was by far the most
beautiful dog there. (Jane didn't even recognise him.)
We have had our share of adventures as he loves to get on the
counters, (when I'm not looking,) and has found that he likes
strawberries, raspberries, butter, foil and all, two pounds of
pepper jack cheese and a bar of soap. Only the soap didn't agree
with him.
He is here to stay and loved dearly. Peggy
Cosmo #251 is one big boy! He is overweight but
still taking off the 15 pounds that need to be shed, he will still
be a large dog. Cosmo is very energetic but has learned to control
this since working with Dan Butcher out at Charlton Kennels. Cosmo
is also very interested in other dogs and does need to be reminded
to stay focused when around them. Cosmo was tied outside since
puppyhood, before coming into Golden Bond, and this is probably
why he seems to want to defend himself around other dogs.Cosmo
has the typical Golden Temperament as he wants to be petted and
paid attention to. He was strictly an outside dog before coming
into rescue and does seem to prefer being outside but could certainly
learn the joys of being an inside dog. He may need help with his
potty training since he has spent so much time outside. This guy
is one big, beautiful and happy guy. He would love to be an only
dog so he doesn't have to worry who is going to get the attention.
He will need someone who is dog knowledgeable as he needs a good
leader to remind him of the proper behavior for a Golden.
It
has happened again! Another foster dog has wormed her way into
the heart of the foster mom. Annie
May has been adopted by Cathy, who
has no other dogs or cats, and this is just the type home that
Annie needed so it is a happy ending for all.Cathy has taken Annie
to obedience classes at Columbia Dog Training and has passed he
Beginning Class. Annie will also attend the Advanced but they
are going to take a break for the summer and just enjoy their
time together.Annie has come to adore Cathy so protects and watches
out for her. The feeling is mutual so this is a good combination.
Annie Mae is a very lucky young lady! Good luck to you both.
Annie
Mae #232 is about 2 years
old. She got a rather rough start in life, living with someone
who abandoned her, leaving her tied to a tree with a coat hanger
and choke collar. Annie was released to GB by a good Samaritan
family who rescued her from her original situation in hopes that
she find a loving , patient home. Her new parents will need to
continue her obedience training to help her adjust to the good
things in life. She needs some guidance overcoming her "tough
stuff" demeanor with other dogs. She is afraid of men she
doesn't know, but with a soft voice and gentle touch, she comes
around. Despite her rough beginnings, she is a loving and sweet
dog. She is remarkably calm in the house and in the car. She loves
walks, and is very good on leash. She is house trained and has
mastered basic obedience as she is very smart and learns quickly.
Annie needs to be in a cat free home and must be the only dog.
She would do best with children over 10. She has been known to
be a counter surf and she loves to snuggle with you on the couch. She
needs your patience and positive reinforcement to help her become
a great golden companion.

A Puppy! Rachel # 248
is full of life. Her foster mom says "she is so very sweet!!"
This golden/lab mix puppy has been well socialized with 4 big
goldens, family and friends. She came to rescue at 4 weeks of
age and has spent her time in rescue being held and loved up.
The vet says she are quite healthy. She loves to eat and often
sneaks the big dogs food. She have progressed to walking up stairs
and going through the dog door to the back yard. No bad habits
since she is so young. Obedience training, patience and the time
for a puppy will be essential for her as she grows. Adorable
Rachel is looking for a family to love and call her own.The combination
of Lab/Golden is a real winner.
At the very first
meeting, Buddy (#256) demonstrated his lovable personality with kisses,
tail wags and lap dog antics to show Nancy, David
NEW!!Bronco #268 is a Golden/English Setter mix and has deep brown
eyes that look into your soul. He wants nothing more than to please
his owner and get all the love he wants and deserves! This big
boy weighs in at 90 lbs but carries it well. He is happiest when
he is next to you and will always offer his belly for rubs. He
tends to ignore cats unless they are horning in on his attention
and gets along well with other dogs. He prefers his humans to
toys or other animals. He is not extremely active, but is no couch
potato either. He will be as active as his owner. He doesn't like
being left alone, but does cope. At night he sleeps by the bed
or on it if you invite him. He does have some food allergies and
need a good quality dog food (he eats lamb and rice now) and came
to us with an ear infection that is clearing up nicely but has
a few more days of treatment to undergo and a follow-up as it
was so severe. If you are looking for an extremely devoted animal
to have in your life and want a constant companion, Bronco is
waiting patiently for his forever home with you.
Michele
and Gary and their springer spaniel Charlie went to Doggie Dash
hoping to see some Golden Bond dogs at our booth. Their application
was in, home visit
complete, and they were looking forward to adding a Golden to
their family.
Max # 262 came to Doggie Dash with his foster Dad, and had a grand time meeting other dogs and getting lots of pets. Little did he know he would be meeting part of his new family that day.
After another meeting that included daughter
Megan, they decided Max was the dog for them. Max is settling
in nicely. At first Charlie wasn't sure he wanted to
share "his" toys with Max, so now they have identical
toys so it's less of an issue.
The dogs each got new beds, however Max seems to prefer sleeping at the foot of Michele & Gary's bed. Charlie likes it, he can move from bed to bed all night whenever he wants. Charlie is showing him the ropes around the house, and we are sure Max will catch on quickly. Another Doggie Dash success story!
June 23, 2002 Update
Charlie and Max have pretty much settled
their differences. Charlie still won't
eat until Max is done, but Max no longer goes to Charlie's bowl
and eats what is
there after he is done with his.
We took them to Bend this weekend and
Max did not like the car ride at all. But
while we were there, we took them to the lake at Drake Park. What
fun!!!! Our
Brittany, Charlie, loves the water but won't get his head wet.
Max just went
wild. Gary was holding him by his leash and all of a sudden he
was gone - UNDER THE WATER!! It was amazing. He would walk until
it got deep enough for him to swim, he would swim for a bit and
then he would go completely under water and come up with rocks!
We had a ball and we are sure he did also!!!! We are going to
take him to some swimming holes here in Portland and videotape
it. Can't wait to see what he will do in the ocean.
He is a wonderful dog and we are so happy we adopted him. Thank you again!!!
Michele, Gary & Megan

Max
#266 is a 19 month old neutered
male with a distinctive wavy, mahogany red coat. He tips the scales
at about 67 lbs. Max loves to play and loves lots of affection.
He will melt in your arms when you give him a good scratch on
his tummy. Max is a social butterfly who loves to meet people.
In his excitement he may jump up on those he is meeting and at
times exhibits submissive wetting. Max had two homes before coming
to Golden Bond. The first family had little time to spend with
Max where he was kept in his crate, often up to 10 hours a day.
Because of this, Max was given to friends of the family who, after
eight months, faced the very difficult decision of releasing him
to Golden Bond due to financial constraints. Max is ready and
waiting to meet his new people.
When the volunteer
who did the home visit for Trudy, Pat and Ryan learned that Sheeba #264
was available, she contacted them, knowing they would be an ideal
match. It turns out she was right! Sheeba, now known as Maggie,
has a great new home. Maggie is settling in nicely. That is, after
she let it be known she didn't want to sleep in the family room,
preferring to have her bed right outside the bedroom door. Seems
like Maggie has some definate ideas of her own! She knows her
obedience commands, and just needs some refreshers on walking
on a leash without pulling. Maggie can look forward to a great
life. She will get to go to work with Pat about every other day.
The idea of a Golden being able to help greet customers is a real
win/win. Maggie loves all the attention, and can only continue
to thrive in her new home.
Sheeba
#264 is 5 1/2 year old female
golden waiting patiently for her new family. She loves to go for
walks and is delighted to accompany you rain or shine. . (The
perfect "get in shape" companion for someone looking
for that extra nudge out the door in the morning or evening...
She could use to lose a few, right now she is a big girl at 80
pounds.) She loves the water and enjoys rides in the car. In her
previous home, she'd been an only dog and was lonely so she'd
love another dog to have as a companion. (She gravitates to dogs
her size so would prefer a larger dog.) She is crate trained and
knows basic commands such as come, sit. She is interested in chasing
goats, squirrels, rabbits and maybe cats. She is a little camera
shy, good with kids and can be a little willful in getting what
she wants (aren't most girls?). A new family with dog experience
would be a plus for her. She would love a home with an active
family with a large back yard and a play mate to complete her
dream. Sheeba looks forward to meeting you and becoming a part
of a loving home.
RUSTY, (258),
the practically perfect puppy, is now at home in Gresham with
Greg and Maryann and sons Andy, 16 and Alex, 13. Rusty's foster
mom and
dad did a wonderful job of bringing this boy from a puppy who
had never
been in a house and jumped on everyone in sight, to a calm and
dignified
juvenile who, nevertheless, enjoys an energetic chase in the yard
with his
new brother, Brian, a 2 year old flat coat retriever. He arrived
at his new home with the warning from his foster mom that he didn't
know how to go up stairs. While the humans were plotting ways
to teach him, Brian, nonchalantly, led him up the stairs. Rusty
followed like it was no big deal. Dog, 1; humans, 0.
Rusty spent his first night home sleeping between his new mom
and
dad. Mom said, "This might not be a practice that lasts forever,
but I
figure if that's where he wants to be on his first night, that's
where he's
going to be". Dog, 2; humans 0. Rusty, it looks like you
have everything under control. The happy beginning of the rest
of your life.Rusty
#258 will be 1 year old
in June . A smallish boy at the moment he weighs 56 pounds but
we expect that he will be bigger once he is full grown. His beautiful
coat is medium blond, and very soft especially around his neck
and tail. He loves to be brushed and looks very handsome when
you are done! He is working on learning basic commands and manners,
and is looking for someone to continue this with him. He is loves
people and is very affectionate! He plays with his foster family
dogs quite well- Running, wrestling and chasing each other around
the yard. He walks well on a leash. He would be great with medium
to large dogs we're not sure about cats. This young dog is looking
for an energetic family to call his own.
Update: Homer Crosses the Rainbow Bridge Read the memorial tribute.
Well our sweet old guy Homer, finally did it! He wormed his way into the hearts
of his foster family and is now permanently residing with Patsy
and Howard and their three retrievers Sir Henry, Ben and Sarah.
When the Intake Coordinator brought him home from Clackamas County
Pound, he smelled so bad they had to drive home with all windows
down. After lots of baths, pills and love, Homer is a new fellow
and now quite acceptable by dogs and humans alike. In fact he
is quite a dapper fellow with his white triangular "glasses"
around his eyes.Homer has fit in very well with his new family,
going on walks, camping and general dog play. It is fun watching
him engage, Henry, who is pretty much a couch potato, in play
while Ben stands around and barks at them both as if telling them
how silly they are acting. Sarah ignores the whole thing and writes
it off to "those crazy boys."Howard had figured that
this family wouldn't stay at three dogs for long. Four seems to
be the perfect number for this household and Homer is the perfect
fit. Welcome home, Homer. :o)
NEW!
Homer #253, who came into
rescue as a stray, was most likely dumped in the Portland area,
ending up in the Clackamas County Shelter. He'd obviously had
a very rough time as he was in pretty bad shape when picked up.He
had a serious yeast infection on his body and ears. He also had
several lumps and bumps that needed to be removed and checked
by our vet. He is recovering from these health problems and is
on the road to recovery . (One cyst on his neck had a few cancerous
cells, but so few, that the chance of a similar cyst returning
is relatively low, and he has a clean bill of health for an older
dog.) Homer has truly blossomed in foster care. With love, kindness
and attention, he has put on weight, and his skin is returning
to its pink color. Our best guess is that he is 9 to 10 years
old with the spunk of a 6 year old. He loves to go on walks and
rides in the car. He enjoys chewing on his hard rubber toys as
he is a little rough on the soft ones. He plays and gets along
well with his foster dog siblings. He enjoys the company of people
and just wants to know you are there for him. If you are looking
for a sweet, totally trustworthy friend, who will follow you
from room to room and just be content to stretch out by your
side, Homer is the one for you.
