Adoptions August to Mid December 2002

Gold Honeysuckle, Honey for short, #316, is happily settled down in her new home in Vancouver. She joins Jan and Floyd, and two canine sisters, on a fenced acre. Perfect for running! One of her new sisters is Matilda, adopted previously from Golden Bond. Jan and Floyd plan to do some traveling in the motorhome, and Honey is looking forward to seeing the sights. Jan reports that Honey has fit right into the household, and is already well loved. She and Mattie appear to be having the time of their lives, and each gets to settle down with their own personal lap in the evening. It was difficult letting her go, but she is definitely in the right place now.

Meet Gold "Honey"suckle, #316. Honey is quite a lovely girl, three years old and recently spayed. She had her first and only litter last January. Honey was purchased from a breeder at the age of 6 weeks and grew up on acreage that contained three ponds that she loved to swim in. The only problem with that is she has some allergies and the bacteria in the ponds aggravated her skin condition something fierce. Her original family was at their wit's end trying to keep her clean and dry and called Golden Bond for help. After being in foster care for a while, eating good hypo-allergenic food and with regular bathing with medicated shampoo, our Honey is starting to look like a golden again. The vet had shaved her to make it easier to treat her skin and she did look a bit like a lab! She is a beautiful gold color with the softest sweetest brown eyes you ever did see. She is gentle and good with children and cats, and has been learning to live and play with other dogs (she has six foster brothers and sisters) and seems to like the boys the best. She would do well with another dog for a companion, or a stay at home person would be nice too. Her only real fault is that she is a counter surfer, but the medications she has been on have given her a voracious appetite, and she learned she could get the bread if it wasn't put away... Honey is housebroken and uses a doggie door, which she learned in about a half an hour. She is very bright and eager to please, she knows sit and down, but could use a refresher course, and needs more work on leash walking. She loves to go for walks and rides in the car, where she is very well behaved. What Honey does best though is give love and adoration, and she needs a forever home that wants a lot of that! Honey will require a new family that is dedicated to maintaining her skin and coat. She will require more frequent bathing and non-allergenic food, but the love she will give in return will be well worth the effort. ALL IN ALL, A REAL HONEY OF A GIRL.

Kandy (#199) has a new home and a new job. At her interview, south coast
business owner Phillip carefully reviewed her credentials, considered her
glowing references, and tested out her nose for retail shop work at a local
pet store. Kandy earned high points and was hired for her new position as
official hardware store greeter and tail wagger. Besides business partners,
Phillip and Kandy look like they'll be best friends for a long time. There
were lots of smiles on adoption day! Kandy's life hasn't exactly been all
smiles. Due to unforeseen circumstances, she was returned to Golden Bond,
and required on-going medical care. With care and support from Golden Bond,
her vet and foster mom, Kandy regained her happy spirit and playful, bouncy
personality. She surely is a true value to her many friends at Golden Bond
and her happy new owner. We wish you the best, Kandy and Phil!

CRUISER 331 has found his forever home in Monmouth with Jim, Kathy, human sibling Travis, and dog siblings Barclay, a mini-schnauzer, and Gretchen, a
beautiful Golden-Shepherd mix. His foster parents knew he'd found his home
when he made fast friends with Barclay, and they chased each other around
the living room. If Barclay stopped, Cruiser would get very disappointed;
until he would wander over to his new parents for some lovin'. Gretchen,
for her part, would just look at the dogs playing with a look that seemed
to say "boys!!..." Cruiser has a future of happiness to look forward to
with dog-savvy parents who love him, and foster siblings to keep him
occupied. Thanks for being a perfect house guest Cruiser, and enjoy your
new life!
Say hello to Cruiser!Cruiser came into rescue when his original owners found that life's changing circumstances including a toddler and a move out of the state meant they could not give him the time and attention that he deserved. They made the loving, and very difficult, decision to find him a good home through Golden Bond. He came into foster care, and is one of the easiest dogs his foster parents have ever had! Cruiser is four years old, and comes from very good hunting lines. He is well behaved, and very eager to please. Like most Goldens, he loves his humans, and craves attention. He loves to sit at (or rather, on) your feet and stare adoringly at you. He also likes to hop and try to give very messy kisses. He is a bit of a 'bouncer' and might have the tendency to knock over small children in his enthusiasm to show you how great you are, so kids over 6 would be best until he learns to keep "all four on the floor". He also likes to curl up by the fire, with his nose right by the hot air vent; this looks like it would be really hot, but he seems to love it! He has lots of energy and would love to have an active family,-- one with a playful dog to burn off some steam would be great. He knows his basic commands of come, sit, down, settle and stay. He doesn't eat any human food, so he doesn't beg at all. (How refreshing!!) We were told he'd play fetch until he drops, but it's been too rainy since we got him to put this to the test. However, he took to playing with his foster-sister Golden as soon as he came into the house. When he went for his first walk with his foster family, we were impressed with how well he behaved on the leash he didn't even pull! (are you listening foster sister??) He wagged his tail the entire time, and obviously loves his walkies.Cruiser would love to bring his bed and bag of toys and cruise on into your heart and home. Wouldn't Thanksgiving be perfect with this sweet boy by your fire?
Here's another story of a Golden Bond dog who fell in love with his foster
family.
JESSIE 304 is staying with Beth and Bob in Salem. When Jessie
came to Golden Bond, he was reported to howl at night occasionally. We
have suggested to him that he howl only on nights with a full moon so that
his family can schedule for it. We hope to see Jessie regularly at Golden
Bond meetings and picnics. Have a great life, Jessie, with some really
great people.

HARRY 322 has convinced his foster mom, Heidi, that she should be his
forever mom. So, Handsome Harry is going to stay in Portland with his new
dad, Bryan, human sister, Katy, 4 , a canine brother, black lab Riley, and
a feline brother, eight year old Cooter. Riley has learned to be a therapy
dog and Harry hopes he can learn this line of work also. Best of luck in
your new home, Harry.
GOT KIDS???!!!Hi, I'm Harry #322 and I love kids. Take me to a playground and I am beside myself wit joy. All I want to do is run and play with the kids. Don't get me wrong I like big people too, other dogs and even cats are cool, but I really really love kids.I am about 5 years old and 108lbs. They've got me dieting, which is another reason I like kids. They feel sorry for me and give me a treat every now and then. I have a low thyroid and am taking medicine which will help with my weight and also help my coat and skin. Which has been a bit lack-luster lately. This is no big deal as they say it is inexpensive medicine and I take it just fine. I know a lot of things like come, sit, stay, out, I will walk nicely on a leash for you and love to ride in the car. Watch out if you say dinners ready
cause I come running. My foster family says I am an all around great guy. I think they will really miss me when I find my new family. I'll mostly miss my foster kid, Katy. She plays with me and lets me sleep with her even though she says I snore something fierce (so does she). I make a snoring noise when I am awake too. Thatís how you know I am happy or if I want some attention. Be prepared, they say to know me is to love me.

Hi! I'm SALLY 318 and I've just come to live with my new forever family. My mom and dad are Ann and Bill. My human siblings are Elizabeth, 7, Benjamin, 5, and Alexander, 3. We are all going to have such fun playing and learning to love each other. My foster family named me Sally, because I didn't have a name and I like it much better than #5464 which is what they called me at the shelter in Eugene. While I was with my wonderful foster family, I made a kitty friend, Milo. We became best buds and I told my old and new families that I wasn't going to move without Milo. So they made arrangements and Milo and I are so happy to be able to stay together. Thank you, Golden Bond, for getting me out of that shelter in Eugene. Meet Sally #318, who we estimate to be 8 or 9 years old, but still has a sparkle in her eye and a bounce in her step. She loves to play soccer with her foster children and to chase the tennis ball. She has a very loving nature, is wonderful with kids, cats and other dogs, in fact one of the cats sleeps next to her. She knows basic commands, like sit and down and learns readily. She is housebroken and whines to let you know she needs to go out. She does have some anxiety about riding in the car and will need some re-assurance there. Sally is good on a leash and enjoys walks. in fact she prances rather than walks. This wonderful and loving lady needs a family that will spend time with her and give her the attention she deserves and she will brighten every day she is with you. She would do best with a family that has kids and not left alone all day. So come meet Sally and she'll steal your heart.
Michel and her fiance George met JAKE 282 on Saturday and couldn't wait to
return on Sunday, complete with leash, collar and ID tag, to claim him as
their own. When they returned, Jake was waiting eagerly to meet them and jumped into their car immediately to let them know he wanted to go home. Michel is a writer who works from her home, so we expect Jake will be in close attendance to help her with apropos adjectives and profound participles - and a foot warmer, when necessary. Thanks to Jake's foster mom for the patient and loving care she has given Jake in order to prepare him for his new, happy life.
Jake #282 (updated 9-30-02)"Jake is a very energetic affectionate six year old. He is a beautiful Golden with very loving eyes, just wanting to be loved and typical in thathe is very eager to please. He experienced some anxiety when leaving his original owners, but is starting to settle in nicely. He is trustworthy, without any accidents in the house, and does sleep all night. Jake getsexcited to see you and will be your shadow but will eventually relax and lie down. Squeaky balls, stuffed toys or even tennis ball are his love in life; he actually likes any toys and is great at playing fetch. His basic commands of sit, down, go get on your bed and the stay, could use some work, as well as come. He is learning to walk on a haltie and coming along, although it isnot his favorite thing to do. The resident two year old Golden, Bear, hasshown Jake how to play and they can play for hours, running, jumping on each other and wrestling. He does very well and does not seem to tire easily.Jake would really blossom with someone that had time to spend with him and could take him for some refresher obedience. He would do best in a cat free home. He has been around children and gets along well with all ages. When taken into rescue it was noted that Jake might favor one hip. X-rays were taken and no real problems were diagnosed. As Jake ages, he may develop some arthritis, as most older dogs do, but with an anit-inflammatory medication he should age gracefully.
MAX 313 is now sleeping with his new best buddy, 9 year old Alex, in Milwaukie. The rest of his new family are mom, Candace, and big brother, Ryan. Candacesays he moved in without making a ripple and it seems like he's been there forever.
When Alex goes to school, there will be 4 year old beagle/terrier Roxie and 5 yearold feline Kitty to play with. Max thinks it might be a while before Kitty will actuallyplay with him, but he thinks he can be patient. Max and Ryan and Candace arealso planning obedience classes to help Max with his understanding of the rules and expected manners. Max believes he's come home.!
#313-Meet Max a 69 lb, one year old that is a bundle of love. Max at the age of one has already had some problems to overcome in his short life. He was hit by a car at 6 months of age and not taken to the vet right away and consequently has a limp, which he takes in stride. Max loves to be loved and will sit in your lap if you let him, resting his head on your should. he likes to retrieve, not sure if he would enjoy swimming yet. He is good with children and loves other dogs, cats are unknown, Max is house broken and uses a dog door to go outside. He is still a puppy and will need some basic obedience training and lots and lots of love, and treats he tells me, boat loads in fact. He a has very gentle nature and would make a wonderful family dog. Max is one handsome boy sure to wrap you right around his paw.
Sammy #326 has a new dad, Courtney, and two wonderful kids (10 & 12) to
call her own! They will have to decide if son "Sam" will change his name,
or if they'll change "Sammy's" name -- that is if they can't live with two
Sam/Sammys in the house! Sammy's new family is well aware of her ball
obsession, and promises lots of hours throwing a tennis ball for her --
inside and out! Sam & Abby will enjoy coming home after school to a new
golden buddy, as their golden Chester died last summer. (Chester was a
Golden Bond dog adopted about 8 years ago!) When Sammy isn't busy chasing a
ball, she will enjoy lots of good cuddling time with 6 hands eager to pet &
stroke her!
SAMMY #326 "Tennis anyone?!" This 6 yr. old sweetie is looking for someone to throw tennis balls for her! Sammy is a playful girl, who loves to chase a tennis ball! Sammy spent most of the last 4 years living outside, but now she's getting used to the good life and looks forward to being loved and spoiled as part of a family, as all goldens should be! She gets along great with dogs, cats and kids. In fact, she used to live with a very large family, so Sammy has been exposed to children of ALL ages. If the children will throw some tennis balls for her -- all the better! Sammy is very well behaved and is quite obedient for a dog who has never had formal training. She rides quietly in the car, loves going for walks and heels very nicely. She is affectionate and craves attention. And can be a little sensitive, when scolded. Sammy is an average sized female, who could lose just a few pounds. (Couldn't we all?!) She's got a beautiful curly red coat, with just the beginnings of gray spectacles around her eyes. But, don't let those few gray hairs fool you -- this is a frisky gal who wants to play with you, as well as be your constant companion and loyal friend!
CARMELLA 319 has taken her big golden grin to her forever home in Beaverton
with Kathy and Pat, Patrick, 18 and Andrea, 15, where she follows in the
paw steps of many previous pets. Her new family plans to include her in
family trips to the park, riding in the car on errands, romps on the beach
and family vacations. Carmella is especially looking forward to
fly-fishing with Kathy and Pat - although she's not quite sure yet whether
she will be chasing the fly or retrieving the fish. Kathy is a stay at
home mom who is a writer, so we know Carmella will spend many hours curled
up next to the computer. Happy trails, Carmella!
Carmella #319-If you are looking for a lifetime of love and companionship I'm the girl for you. I love walks in the park, quiet nights at home, rough and tumble play, and long rides in the country. I have beautiful golden hair, soft brown eye and a slim figure. My two best features are my perky ears and long flowing tail. I am a 7 year old Golden Retriever/Chow mix. I have a very mellow, easy going temperament with just enough spark to keep you wanting more. I started life in Grants Pass and have recently relocated to the Portland area with the help of Golden Bond Rescue. My foster Mom thinks I moved here just to be near all the parks. I love to romp in the park with my friends and go for rides with the family. I just love to go but am happy to stay home and wait for your return. I expect lots of loves and pets when you do come home. I'll eat whatever you give me but especially like to have a little of your leftovers. I never pull on my leash, always come when called and never make messes in the house. Now that you have heard all my wonderful attributes I should mention that I'm not fond of small children or cats. I would really prefer to be the only dog in your life but would be all right with a non-alpha friend. If you open your heart and home to me I will be sure you will be rewarded with the best.
SCARLETTE 165 has become a resident of Gold Beach, Oregon. If you call her new home, the message machine will instruct you to "leave a message for Cheryl, Bob or Scarlette! Scarlette now has the luxury of two humans all to herself. That's what she's been telling her foster mom she needed for a long time. But, when she discovers the raccoons, deer and other assorted wild life around her home, she'll have plenty of company and the time to impress them with the fact that "Miss Scarlette" is the reigning queen of the area. Then there's the beach to explore - we expect that might be a new experience for this tidily packed little girl. The best times will surely be curling up in the evenings with her new family. Scarlette has been a favorite of everyone at Golden Bond. We all wish you a wonderful and happy life with Bob and Cheryl.

I'm Scarlette (165). I'm looking for a home with some quiet people who don't have any cats and would like to take walks with me. I'm a demure 50 pounds with a lovely deep red coat. I'm definitely a senior, but have no chronic illnesses except a little arthritis. I'm a little hard of hearing, but can hear my foster mom just fine. I know how to use a dog door and I like just about any dog food. I'm very patient when you go off to work or play. When you come home, I'm waiting at the door with a toy in my mouth to greet you. Wouldn't you like to meet me?

Scarlette crosses the Rainbow Bridge.

Wow, RIPLEY 301, are you ready for this? Have you had time to get to know them all yet? Your new family is a crowd!! There are mom and dad, Margie and Mark; Chris 16; Jeff, 14; Daniel, 12; Thomas, 10; Karen, 7; German shepherd, Echo; golden retriever, Chelsea; feline, Ginger; and feline, Jasmine. That's enough for a Canadian football team! Your foster family, Erin, Ross and Devon will miss you, but resident golden, Gulliver is looking forward to some peace and quiet. Obedience classes will put some polish on your house manners. We look forward to seeing you at the Golden Bond picnic next summer a suave and mannerly young gentleman.RIPLEY (#301) is a young, active male who was released from the Humane Society. He loves to play "catch me" and go for walks. He is a vocal player and will growl and show his teeth which could be intimidating to the untrained. It has been discovered that it is a lot of show. Ripley is very loving and loves everyone. He barks at unusual sounds. He is still young, between 12-18 months old, so he needs to learn his manners. He has learned sit. Come, stay and down are still a work in progress. He is on the small side for a male only 56 lbs. and about 18"- 20" tall. Has a beautiful, smooth red coat and is a good representative of the breed. Ripley has a lot of energy and love to share. He loves to chase cats but wouldn't know what to do with one if he caught one. The two cats he lives with seem to scare him when they hiss and spit. Then he barks at them. To someone who is willing to invest the time with love and training, Ripley has the potential to be an excellent Golden Retriever.
HEIDI 300 has gone to make her forever home with Jan in Portland. While at the dog park with her foster mom, Erin, Heidi met Jan and her Karelian bear dog, Jersey. The two dogs got along famously and they will be company for each other when Jan has to be gone. Jersey goes to the dog park regularly because he has so much energy, so Jan is looking forward to being able to walk a nice sedate, small dog. Another happy beginning for a Golden Bond dog!Hi, I'm Heidi, (#300) I am a sweet-natured, loving and small (33 lbs) golden mix. I'm not sure what the mix is but I'm small. I am a bit older (8 or 9 I think) and haven't been taken care of so well. I came to Golden Bond from the Multnomah County Shelter and have been living in a good foster home with two other goldens and getting plenty of love and food. I am very quiet. I am timid, but not shy. I want to be wherever you are and just lay at your feet. If you walk up to me or bend over, I will give you my tummy to pet. I love tummy rubs. When I came into rescue, I was very, very thin. My foster mom and dad have been feeding me puppy food and I have gained weight nicely, thank you very much. I hear they are going to quit giving me puppy food as soon at it runs out. That's okay with me, I'm not fussy. I eat whatever is in my bowl and quickly. I would like a quiet home. Too many
things going on makes me a bit nervous and I like to hide under the nearest table where I won't get stepped on. But I'll come right out to get a pet. No problem. I am dependable, trustworthy and never give you a moment to worry. I don't mess in the house and I only shed twice a year as my "other" dog coat is fuzzy. I will let you groom me and clip my nails (because I usually get tummy rubs), I'm not wild about baths, but if you insist.... I will make the best companion. I just want a family of my own to love me.

Ron and Maria and son Brent, 8, have welcomed NAPOLEON 224 into their family with great enthusiasm and joy. After Napoleon's first grooming, Brent dressed him in an Oregon State kerchief, so that there would be no question about Napoleon's collegiate allegiance. He was greeted by his new family with a new collar, ID tag and kong - already filled with peanut butter. This is the first dog for Napoleon's new family, so we are all thrilled that he will have an active boy to play with. He'll also get a chance to go to obedience in classes with Brent and his mom or dad. His loving foster parents, Pete and Nancy, bid him farewell with sadness, but confident that he has found his new forever family. Nappy, this is the first week of the rest of your life - have a happy one!
When nine year old GULLIVER (287) came to Golden Bond from a Clackamas
County shelter, he was a very sick 120 pound golden. He had pneumonia, a
high temperature, and had a massive seizure in the veterinarian's office
where he was taken. He had a very dark red coat, but it was so matted, and
with his high fever, the veterinary clinic shaved his body. The result was
a full and fluffy red head, fluffy feet and a fluff on the end of his tail. He looked like a lion walking across the yard. Everyone at Golden Bond kept positive thoughts for him and, with the help of antibiotics and tender loving care from his foster mom, Jan, he was nursed back to health. The seizures stopped and it was concluded that they were caused by his illness and high temperature. He then went to stay with Susan, another foster mom who reinforced his
beginning feelings that people are not all bad and life with humans can be good. Now, Gulliver has gone to a forever home with Erin and Ross in Milwaukie where he will share his time with daughter Devon, 12, and two feline
friends. Home life is relaxed and low key, which just fits Gulliver's
personality. Erin and Ross recently lost Murphy, another Golden Bond dog,
so Gulliver has some pretty big paws to fill. We all know he's up to the
task. Best wishes to all of you from Golden Bond.
GULLIVER #287 . (Special Needs) The amazing Mr. GULLIVER is ready for adoption! Gulliver stands 26 inches at the shoulder and weighs 118 pounds -- but is not overweight. He may have a just wee bit of Newfoundland in his heritage. Estimated to be about nine years old, Gulliver was extremely ill with pneumonia when rescued by Golden Bond. His coat was so severely matted it had to be shaved, but is growing out nicely. Soon the glossy red shine will return. Gulliver has a seizure disorder, controlled by inexpensive medication which he will need throughout his life. While there is some arthritis in his lower back, his mobility is not visibly impaired. Gulliver is both genteel and gentle.... the sweetest, most mellow (and probably biggest) Golden Retriever you will ever meet. He is quiet, well mannered (albeit very interested in the smell of 'people food'), affectionate, and an excellent traveler. He knows "sit", walks on leash without pulling, gets along well with other dogs (he tries prompting them to toss the ball for him, which hasn't quite worked yet), and generally ignores
cats. In foster care, Gulliver has been fine when left alone in the house for up to five hours. This big guy has not had an easy life, at least not in the recent past. His needs are few -- a fairly quiet home and a special someone with a very big heart to provide the love and security he so well deserves. Gulliver's 'forever' people will be richly rewarded with his constant devotion, incredibly calm and sweet disposition, and undying gratitude for their kindness...

Coach #305, who turned 8 while he was in foster care, has been adopted by John & Sherri, and their two children. When he arrived at his forever home, he was greeted by big "WELCOME COACH" signs -- lovingly painted by Parker (4) and McKenna (2)! (OK, words were by Sherri, scribbles by children!) Parker now enjoys taking his afternoon nap with Coach, and McKenna brushes him with her hairbrush. Coach is enjoying 5am walks, and is playing nicely with their ball-obsessed lab/golden mix, Bailey. Sherri reports: "I love when you pet him, because his eyes just seem to roll back like, "Oh boy, does this feel good!" Coach is going to get LOTS of love and attention!!
Lizzy Mae #303, was adopted by Jessica and Jonathan, to live with Ginny, also a GB adoptee, and Spirit, a foster Golden, and three male kitties, Sherman, Kodiak and McKenzie. Lizzy is now six months old, about 50 pounds, light colored and very happy to be with Ginny and Spirit. Lizzy has begun to run better and better after numerous trips to Champoeg and the Wilsonville off leash park, and is beginning to retrieve tennis balls. It's still open season between Lizzy and the kitties, but should improve in a while. She is very personable, still wanting to jump in your lap or lean against your legs. Since we have had seniors for many years, the energy of a puppy like Lizzy is really an eye opener. Lizzy is already a real treasure to us. Jonathan
Meg #293 age 4, was adopted by Chris and Randy, their two teenage sons and black Lab Bosco. A special bonus is an 84-year-old grandmother who is also smitten with this lovely red girl. Meg was somewhat reserved when she met her new family but by the time she was invited into the house, she was smiling — a big change from the worried look that had been her constant companion all during foster care. Although we were not sure that Meg would be good with cats, she has responded positively to their reserved introductions, and they are slowly becoming friendly. Meg is indeed fortunate to have an active, loving family of her own, people who return the love and deserve the trust of this exceptional girl.

Read an update on Meg.

Ginger #294, who is a year old, is happily living with RJ and Diana and their black lab Caddie. She has the good fortune to be adopted by people who run a doggie day care, so Ginger has the chance to do what she loves best, romp, run and chase balls. The young couple who adopted her say that her adjustment into their home has gone well, and we are so happy that this golden girl has her own family, who return the great affection and loyalty she has to offer. Update From Gingers New Family: October 13, 2002 Ginger has made a place in our hearts. She's one of the family. Panther (cat) enjoys having a new playmate that he can boss around. Caddie protects her like a little sister. Caddie will let Ginger snuggle on her bed, she has never done that with any dog or cat. Ginger loves snuggle time on Sunday morning. Saturday we all went to Sauvie Island to walk the corn maze. Ginger was the hit with all the kids. She still has her squeeker ball, I bought her a new plastic ball and she chewed it up in 10minutes. Ginger is adjusting to her raw food diet very well. We kept her name. Diana & RJ
FINNEGAN 302 has gone to live with Diane and Ward in Seaside. His new
best two-footer friends are Joshua, 13, David, 6 and Nathaniel, 4. His new
mom has said, "Finnegan is great! We all love him so much and he really
enjoys all the love and attention. He's so sweet and really a wonderful
dog. He absolutely LOVES the ocean. I'm not sure if he's ever seen it
before...but he was so excited when he saw the waves...he jumped up and
down like a puppy. :)" Adios, Finnegan. Watch out for the sharks in that
big pond!

JERICHO (#312) has found his forever home with John, Ellen, Rocky, Sally, numerous house and barn cats, cattle, llamas, chickens, and horses on 32 acres near Elmira. John lost his longtime companion last year, and he missed having his own dog shadow. Jericho's foster family confirmed that this big sweet guy is partial to men, another good match. Jericho passed his initial tests on getting along with livestock. Rocky decided that there's room in the pack for at least
one more dog; Sally welcomed a playmate. John is happy to have a dog at his side once more. Jericho is part of the family, and lots of exciting lessons are in this youngster's future. He gets to change from town to farm resident, go camping, and help John manage land and animals. Happy trails, Jericho!10-14-02 Jericho's new family sends this message:We cannot thank you enough for bringing Jerry into all of our lives. It is so nice to come home and see John and Jerry out doing whatever, and knowing Sally and Rocky are asleep in the house. Thank you ... Golden Bond.

David and Gillian just moved into their new home and put up a fence
especially for us. We are
BAILEY (280) and SIERRA (281). Then they came
to find us and take us to live with them in Portland. We are doing well on
our food, medications and exercise. We're also getting used to being
indoors during the day, as well as sleeping indoors where we can be near
our new family. We're learning our house manners and we are all getting
used to living with each other. It's pretty neat here and we're so glad
that David and Gillian adopted us.

A pair of Peaches! Siblings Bailey (#280) left and Sierra (#281)right are 6 years old. Bailey is a tall male approx 36 inches and 83 pounds, medium gold in color.Sierra is a great size for a female aprox 29 inches and 70lbs, she is red in color. This sweet pair love to ride in the car and are great on leashes. In addition they are wonderful with grown up people and children, and prefer to sleep inside the house on the vinyl floor. Bailey likes to dig, enjoys water ( barks at the hose). Sierra also likes water but prefers it in the cube form -she loves to chew cubes of ice. Both dogs are very affectionate, Sierra will sit next to you and give you her paw for attention, she has also shown some interest in the cat living under the bed. Bailey likes to chase the cats to get them to play. Both have had basic training, sit/stay. We would prefer not to break up this happy twosome. If you have room in your heart for a pair of sweet dogs- these two are ready and eager to meet their new family!

I'm CHARLIE BROWN (311) and I used to live with a family who didn't take
very good care of me. Then a nice lady brought me to Golden Bond where I
met my new best friend, Allan and came to live with him in Vancouver. We
decided that I should have a new name to start my new life, so now my name
is
SCYLAR. We take lots of long walks and rides in the car. We talk a lot
of guy talk together and I really like our relaxed and laid back life

Update on Chevy here 12-20-2002

Chevy has moved to Albany to live with Steven and Robin. Steven had been taken with the intelligence and alertness evident in Chevy's Web photo, and he and Robin were just as taken with Chevy in the fur.
Chevy was also attracted to these visitors, and it wasn't long before
he was playing kong-retrieval games and asking for their attention. A
walk let Chevy show his improved leash manners and his ability to
remember all the places the cat hides out.Steven and Chevy are off to the good life together. They are alreadybonded--Chevy now goes everywhere with Steven, including work. He isKing Dog, and the perks of his new home include lots of room to runand swim. Chevy likes having a job. He has been promoted fromguardian of a food dish to assistant property caretaker, and we hear
that he's already training the chip bin to behave itself. This story
has a familiar happy ending -- Chevy got his man
.CHEVY (#296) is 4 years old and 75 pounds of typical Golden young male. This handsome guy was released to Golden Bond by a responsibleowner who realized that Chevy needs more than another dog forcompanionship.Chevy is a smart, assertive and energetic young male. He was bred from hunting stock, and exhibits many of the characteristics you might expect: intelligence, loyalty, ability to follow orders. He loves to run and play; he and his foster sister will chase the same Kong untilboth of them are tired. Chevy is also fond of rubber toys and balls.
He is housetrained; while he doesn't countersurf, he does like to lie on the big bed. He knows and responds to his basic commands, and will come when called. Chevy knows that the appearance of his leash means a walk and romp, and sits right down to get leashed up. We're working on better walking manners. Chevy's intelligence and assertiveness make him a wonderful companion, and a possible candidate for only dog. He is fine with an established alpha female, and might be OK with an equally confident male. We are not sure about cats. We do know that Chevy will need a strong authority figure at home. He really is all male, and is a man's dog. He is rather protective of his food, but will share toys. He has a beautiful red-gold coat of fine fur, and will require careful grooming. Since Chevy likes water and attention, he is happy to cooperate with baths and brushing. He welcomes every person who comes to visit. Chevy is very attentive to his surroundings. He will bark at strange noises and wildlife (and his lungs are quite healthy). Especially at dusk, he and his foster sister rather enjoy running together around the back yard, barking at whatever might be out there. Chevy needs a family where someone is around much of the time and
filled with people who will appreciate his intelligence and energy, and who can give him authoritative leadership. If you're ready to share your life with this bundle of male Golden energy and spirit, Chevy is for you.

TRAVIS (289) is now at home with Joanie and Oskar where his foster mom says
he is adjusting beautifully. He has already passed the ultimate test of
staying home by himself while his new family went out for dinner. Travis
stayed by himself, loose in the house, for over two hours and was a perfect
gentleman. He will be introduced to the beach soon, as well as many other
excursions with his new family. Joanie says he is going to be one very
loved and spoiled boy. Travis, enjoy!! Update 10-1-02I wanted to let you know that Bandit is still doing beautifully! He has charmed all of our friends and family...he has enjoyed the beach, the dog park, and the last of the summer sun in the backyard... and he is a complete joy to us!
Take care, Joanie, Oskar and Bandit

KimiHi, I'm KIMI (207) and I'm a new family member with Tod and Sandi and their children Willie, Lindsey and Jared in Portland. Everyone was impressed by how I could jump into the back of our SUV from the ground without help - just as easily as a six year old. There's a special leather sofa where I get to sit right next to my new dad - I've already tried it out and it's just swell! They told me that I might even get to sleep with Linsey at night and that would be pretty wonderful too. Everybody likes my kisses and I love to give them. I get to have all of the toys that belonged to Jack who was here before me, so I'm going to try very hard to fill his paws.

Update November 2002-Kimi has really wriggled her way into our hearts. Her health has been fantastic. Her only indiscretion has been concerning loaves of bread or sandwiches on the counter. She does like peanut butter and Jelly. We had a concentrated training session about bread and counter-surfing, and I think she is trained out of it.Now she is pretty much just a non-stop clown. She has us laughing every day. She is a real joy. She is a perfect fit for us. Sandi has just started taking her everywhere. She has never had a problem being left in a vehicle. She is quite content to curl up on her bed there and take a nap. She loved trick or treating with the kids, as well as answering the door on Halloween. She tries so hard to please, it's just a joy to see. She knows she is not supposed to lick or scratch, and will stop immediately when asked to. She will sometimes kind of limp up to me, trying not to get that back foot up to scratch, and I'll get it for her. She loves to play, and has a lot of energy, but man what a couch potato. She is so funny the way she sleeps. She will get herself all twisted around like an otter, or be half hanging off the couch while she's sleeping. like I said, she cracks us up. Thanks again for putting us in touch with this wonderful friend who has settled into our lives, and even stopped requiring extra maintenance.

NOTE: Kimi crossed the Rainbow Bridge August 6, 2006. Read the memorial for Kimi.

My name is KIMI(#207). My middle name is Gentle and my last name is Serene. Before I came to my foster home, I was in a shelter which was very noisy and not at all pleasant. In the picture, I'm the handsome one on the right. My friend on the left is not a real dog, of course, but I get along with my real foster brother and sister dogs very well. I also like kitties and children very much. My foster mom says I'm 7 years old, medium size and in excellent health. My grey hairs go back to my goggle-wearing days when I played the Red Baron. My house manners are impeccable. I love to take my humans for a walk and I act properly on a leash. I also love to ride in the car where I behave quietly. My foster mom says I'm a pretty perfect golden who deserves to find a forever home where I can cuddle with
my human and be a couch potato.

MICKEY'S (275) new home is with Don and Lonnie in Eugene. Ten year old,
Taylor will have plenty of opportunity to develop his throwing arm because
Mickey never gets tired of retrieving She will have several acres to
explore with her new family. Mickey's foster mom, Kim, said, "Mickey
bonded with them almost immediately. With all our other foster dogs (and
most of them had been with us a shorter time than Mickey has) we have had
to leave the yard or room because the dog paid too much attention to us.
Not Mickey. And she really like the son, Taylor. Played ball and hide and
seek with him." What a good beginning!
Micki #275(updated 7-29-02) is almost 4 years old but still acts very much like a puppy. A small dog, she weighs about45 lbs. She had a less than optimal beginning in life but has bloomed in her foster home. Positive reinforcement will go along way for this little dog, as she has great potential and lots of love to give. She is friendly, comes when called and is working on sit, stay and down. She walks well on a leash. She almost always has a stuffed animal in her mouth for comfort, so a home with plenty of those would be great! She loves to fetch and will really improve your "arm" if you are willing to throw for her. An active home would suit her well. She recently went camping for the first time and really loved it! She has enjoyed the luxury of a dog pool while in her foster home. She behaves well in the house and learned to use the dog door in a matter of minutes. She may have some separation anxiety and would do well with someone who is home alot. Micki needs a positive outlet for her energy and she is looking for security in her life. She is a little afraid of men she has some submissive urination with them. She would probably do best in a home as the only dog . Obediance training will boost her self confidence, and this would be a great thing to do with her once she settles in to her new family. This girl is looking for someone with lots of love and patience to give her the loving home she deserves. She in turn will keep give you her unconditional love.

Budee (#291) has found a wonderful new home with Jody and Tim. All three of
them were looking for a mellow friend and loyal companion. Budee recognized
the possibility with Jody and Tim on their home visit. He willingly went on
a walk with them and showed them his favorite hay field. When they offered
a car ride and new sites, he was ready to sign up! Jody and Tim had said
farewell to their beloved Golden only a few months ago, and were
understandably careful and sensitive about bringing a new Golden into their
lives. They gave considerable attention to the decision. Budee wouldn't be
able to replace their dog, but he might be a new friend in their home.
After time to consider, Jody and Tim happily invited Budee to join their
family. There is even a September wedding planned for their daughter, and
she told Jody and Tim that Budee could be part of the wedding! This is
another Golden Bond story of a dog finding a place to belong and a family
with kind hearts who open their home to a wonderful new friend.
NEW!!Budee (#291 ) is a sweet-natured, blond-colored Golden boy looking for his
new best friend. He is 7 to 8 years old and weighs about 45 pounds. He is a
compact and well-proportioned smaller version of a Golden Retriever -- with
some probable other breed mixed in somewhere down the line. With his golden
blond color, abundant leg and tail feathering, and dark eyes and nose,
there is no doubt about his proud - and dominant- Golden Retriever lineage!
Budee came into Golden Bond Rescue from the Oregon Coast, when his
owner was no longer able to keep him. He has been a gentle and adaptable
guest in his foster home. Budee gets along well with the resident female
Golden and two teenage children. He bonded very quickly with his foster mom
and seems most happy to be near her, whether in the house or outside in the
garden. He follows her about and is quite content to watch or take a snooze
until it is time for the next activity.Budee shows some reluctance to approach men, but has been meeting some new and kind-hearted male-type humans. He thinks they might be OK afterall. Budee loves car rides and evening walks in the neighborhood. He is also very alert and lets his foster family know when any visitors are coming to the house. This little Golden with a big heart will make an excellent and loyal companion, happily sharing time and space with a lucky new family. He's just waiting for an invitation!
