Bandit joins Daniele, Joe, and their sons Josh and
Jeremiah. Bandit seems to love sleeping in Josh's room, hoping
right up on the bed with him to
snuggle in for the night. No more being scared in the night with
Bandit in the room! A cute side note was when the younger son
was put into a "time out" Bandit was right there, laying
his head in Jeremiah's lap. So much for it being a
time out! Bandit is fitting in so well they say it's like he
was always part of their family. Sounds like Bandit may have
already stolen the hearts
of his new family...
Bandit
#237 is a 3 year old, 65
pound bundle of love! This lovable guy gets along great with kids,
cats and other dogs, but would enjoy being an only dog and receiving
all of your love and attention. Although Bandit is playful and
energetic, he is happiest with his head resting on your lap!Bandit
knows the basic commands: sit, down, come and leave it. He walks
like a pro on leash with the help of a Gentle Leader. Bandit
has lots of energy and will need someone to help him channel
his energy with play sessions, training and long walks. He learns
quickly and aims to please.Bandit will be a wonderful addition
to some lucky family!
Buddy#223 went home
to Hillsboro with John and Sarah and beautiful baby Julia. It
was love at first sight for Buddy and Julia, who is 8 months
old. She will never again have to worry about having a dirty
face! Rounding out this happy family is Buddy's new big brother
Schubert, an 8 year old cockapoo/terrier who will have him well
trained in no time at all. Buddy did his best to convince John
and Sarah that he really is just a lap dog, and it may well have
worked! Emailed photos have been promised...
More
Here.Meet Buddy #223, 75 pounds of Golden love! Well, to
be more precise, 74 pounds of love and 1 pound of typical golden
puppy mischief! Buddy was found as a stray last August, and the
Good Samaritans that found him kept him for five months before
deciding that they just had too many dogs. He is about a year
and a half old, medium red in color, and a tall, rangy boy. He
has boundless energy, and loves to run, swim, and play ball.
He is decent on a leash and knows Come, Sit, Down, and Stay.
All of them need work though! He is great with other dogs, curious
about cats, but doesn't seem overly interested, and loves children.
His Good Samaritan family has two boys, 3 and 5. He is very gentle
with the younger boy, but a bit more rough and tumble with the
older one, who returned the play in kind. Buddy's ideal day would
be to run and play all day with kids or other dogs, and then
curl up in your lap in the evening! He is completely housebroken
and knows how to use a doggie door, and could be crate trained
in a very short amount of time if needed, as he learns quickly.
Buddy is a very sweet boy who will give the right family years
of loving companionship.
Our
sweet Ginger #234 has a new family! She went home to Aloha this
weekend withBlaine, Jane, Tim and Breanna. Ginger will be an
only dog, and is certainly
looking forward to being the center of attention, with four humans
to call her own. She had lots of fun dragging them all around
the parking lot. Isn't that what leashes are for? Ginger will
get lots of walks with Jane, and playtime with many neighboring
dogs, including Jake, a 9 month Golden who lives just a few doors
down. What a lucky girl!
Ginger What
are little girls made of? Sugar and spice and everything nice.
And this little spice girl is no exception! This wonderful dog
is a 16 month old spayed female, weighing in at a petite 55 pounds.
She has an easy-care light red coat, and oh-so soulful eyes just
begging to be loved. How could anyone resist? Ginger is housebroken,
crate trained, and uses a doggie door. She is good with children,
loves other dogs and stuffed toys, but cats are an unknown. Aside
from a lack of formal training, she is about as close to the
perfect dog as you can get! She does know come and sit, and we
are working on down and stay. She also needs some leash training.
Ginger is equally ready for a good run or a good cuddle. Gentle
and sweet, her only fault is jumping when she is excited, but
that will be corrected with time. Just think, you could be the
one to earn this lovely girl's undying love and devotion! Wouldn't
that be a kick?
Our trowel-toting
RUDY (#204) will have plenty of space to use that trowel
for digging and running off some of the extra weight he had when
he came to us. He is at home with Linda and Ed, their two cats
and two horses on a 31
acre spread in southern Oregon. Rudy first came to Golden Bond
with his half brother, Andy. They were separated because there
wasn't a foster home
available that could take both dogs. At first, Rudy had a hard
time getting used to being without his lifelong playmate. It
took a while, but he eventually decided it's pretty nice being
top dog. With Linda and Ed,
he will be just that, and have to kowtow only to the top cats. This
is the second time Linda and Ed have adopted a Golden Bond dog.
Very sadly, their beloved Copper crossed Rainbow Bridge just
a short while ago. Rudy has some pretty big paw prints to fill,
but now, the family is complete again.Rudy #204 Rudy is almost 2 years old- his birthday
is in April. Rudy is a packrat and loves to carry things in his
mouth including tennis shoes.(notice he's got a trowel in his
mouth in this photo!)He is a large dog who is currenlty on Weight
Watchers for dogs. He loves attention, he is good in the house
and learned very quickly what was acceptable and what wasn't.
He knows and responds well to basic commands and will give you
a "high five" on command, he uses a dog door at his
foster home. He is rather mellow and not overly active but that
may be due to his weight. This very affectionate dog is looking
for a forever home !
SONJA (#108) has gone to live with Jerry and Claire in Hillsboro.
Chris (13) and Jonathon (9) will help with her care, training
and lots of play. The first day Sonja met one of the three true
governors of the house, the cats. Sonja was just being curious,
but was advised with a hiss that her advances were unacceptable.
Both parties decided to cool it and went their own ways. That
was okay because Sonja is mostly interested in
her humans, anyway, so she sticks to them like velcro. In her
future there are obedience classes planned to hone her manners
some. There are also going to be trips to the beach house - wouldn't
we all like to be there
when she sees the Pacific ocean for the first time and all those
wonderful gulls for chasing. We know life will have many happy,
busy times for Sonja and she will try her best to make her new
family proud of her. Sonja
was returned to Golden Bond due to her current owner having some
changes in her physical health. Sonja will be 7 years old this
June. She will be the perfect addition to a family: she loves
walks, the beach and just enjoys being inside with her people.
She is friendly and well mannered and gets along with older children.
She loves to eat and has been known to be a counter surfer.
Her idea of helping in the garden is to harvest (eat) the vegetables
and this hasn't helped her girlish figure! She takes thyroid medication
and other than a little weight problem is in good health (must
be the vegetables). She is looking for a new home with good taste
in vegetables and maybe a garden she can help in, as summer is
just around the corner.........
JOEY (231)
has gone to his forever home with Mark, Sally, Kate, and
Andrew. He immediately began to display his "practically
impeccable" house
manners, all the while smiling and wagging his tail. When he
tentatively
approached the resident cat, Bear, he hissed, so Joey decided
to go do
something else. Not only well mannered - but wise. Despite a
hiss or two,
he is certain he has chosen the best family for him and has decided
to
stay. Joey, we've enjoyed knowing you at Golden Bond and wish
you and your
new family many years of love and fun.NEW!! Joey #231 is a large golden, very red in color with abeautiful
big head, his coat is short and curly. At age 5, Joey is a real
sweetheart! His foster home says that he has been a treat to
care for, he has lots of energy and perfect manners. He is very
quiet in the house, dosn't play much with stuffed toys or balls
but when he gets outside he loves to explore in the trees, poke
around in the bushes, and run through the fields with his tail
straight in the air and head held high! He would much rather
walk through a puddle than around and is very enthusiastic about
riding in the car. He knows basic commands and walks well on
a leash. He dosn't bark unless he belives an intruder is near
and is a perfect companion for other dogs and kids. He dosn't
dig in the gardens or jump fences. He is very gentle and loves
to get soapy and sprayed with the hose!!! Joey would be very
happy in a home with another dog, since he has always had a companion,
and with a big yard (or close by dog park) where he can run.
Joey is truely a gem, just looking for love and affection!
Einstein has found
a new home with Kelly and Robert, and their two daughters
Lilly and Iris. Einstein seems to have been named appropriately,
as he is
very smart and catching on quickly to the routine and "rules"
at his new
home. Kelly and Robert live across from a dog friendly part,
and Einstein spent
the first evening barking whenever people or dogs walked by.
After being
told it was ok and not to bark, he hasn't since. During his first
experience playing fetch, Einstein didn't want to drop the ball,
however he
quickly caught on to sharing the ball meant they would continue
to throw it
for him. Einstein seems to have the perfect energy level for
his new family. He is mellow in the house and good with the girls,
and still loves to play and
have fun outside. Kelly said Einstein is awesome, and they all
adore him.
Sounds like a great start to a wonderful home for Einstein!
Einstein #219 is a gorgeous red head. He is a 4
year old male with a beautiful, full, reddish blonde coat. Einstein
should be the only dog in the family, he needs a lot of attention
and tends to get jealous with another dog in the family, but
he is great socializing with other dogs at parks, or on walks.
He is fabulous with children and comes from a family with 3 kids.
He is a very sweet dog who just laps up all the love and attention
you can give him. He is house trained, and walks well on the
leash. He is trained to sit, stay, and come, but as with all
dogs he does sometimes have selective hearing! He tends to get
very excited when company comes to the door. He
will bounce up and down, but will never jump on your guests.
He is a very good watch dog. He will bark at strange noises or
if someone comes to the door, when you tell him to quiet down,
he does. Einstein is a great dog and will make a lucky family
a wonderful pet and companion.
-
- Miss Daisy (#230) is at home in Astoria with Marsha, Geoffrey,
a "granny"
golden named Brandy, two cats "older than water", a
small herd of
Appaloosa horses, a mule and an mini burro.. Her new dad says
he didn't
think a dog could jump as far as Miss Daisy did the first time
she saw the
horses. The mini burro was more to her liking because he wasn't
much
bigger than she, but those great big dogs that snort and whinny
are going
to take some getting used to. Brandy is slowly warming up to
this young
whipper snapper who has suddenly appeared in her space and she,
Geoff and
Marsha are working on teaching Miss Daisy the house rules in
her new home.
- In the next few months, the whole family
will be moving to a new 200 acre
ranch in eastern Oregon where there will be a fenced acre around
the house
to run in. That will be another education for her as she meets
some of the
critters who live in the high desert. Her foster family, Patty
and Leon, were sorry to lose her sunshine personality and endless
enthusiasm from their home, but they, and all of us at Golden
Bond, send her off with joy, knowing she will have a wonderful
and interesting life where she is loved not only by her humans
and her dog friends - but by horse friends too.
NEW!!Miss
Daisy #230 is a small golden
weighing just 43 pounds. At 8 months old,This sweet girl is
Very loving -she wants nothing more than to to sit on your lap
or by your side and give out kisses. She's social with other dogs
but prefers the company of her humans. A few things needing work
and patience- She does counter surf and has consumed a sandwich
and bagel, quite quickly according to her foster family. She enjoys
walks and does well on a leash. Will benefit from obedience class
with her new family. She's very smart- has learned to open the
baby gates in her foster home!( so her new family will want to
chanel her energy.) This sweet pup is ready to meet her forever
family.
-
Andy, who also had the nickname of Moose at his
foster home, has found himself a wonderful home with Lisa, Mark,
Joey and Jackie. Ten year old Joey read about Andy on the website,
and knew then he was the one for them.Andy may have known something
special was about to happen too. When he was being driven into
the neighborhood for a visit he stood up and started
sniffing the air like it was something exciting. Everyone was
excited to meet Andy, and he fit in perfectly. When they first
met, Joey got down on the floor and played tug with Andy. Andy
immediately began following Joey around the house, and would
run after him whenever he'd leave the room. This lucky dog will
get to sleep in Joeys room, and go for walks and play after school.During
his first full day with his new family, Andy has accompanied
them on errands to get dog supplies, as well as a couple of walks.
After some grooming and a busy day, Andy used Joey's foot to
help lull him into a nap. Here's a picture from right before
he fell asleep.
As his foster Mom said, "A boy and
his dog, what more could you ask for?"
Meet
Andy, a sweet, mellow boy of approximately
22 months. When he came to his current foster home he was a whopping
105 pounds. With exercise and a reduced calorie diet, he has
been steadily losing weight, but still has a ways to go. He is
much taller and longer of body than any Golden his foster parents
have seen. To help keep his hips and heart healthy, he will need
to get down to his ideal weight, and stay there. This boy is
a very pretty reddish golden color, with a soft, thick, slightly
wavy coat. As you can see, he is very handsome!(Web page editorial
note: HOW can anyone resist that face?? If I were not adding
a human baby to my family I'd adopt this boy in a heartbeat....)
If given the option, he LOVES
to chew on his favorite toy, a hard nylabone, and can happily
keep at this activity for hours on end. Andy loves walks, and
is actually quite gentle on the leash, which is surprising given
his size. As he has been losing weight, his energy level has greatly
improved, and he frolics from time to time around the house or
yard. However, Andy is a true couch potato at heart, and prefers
lounging to vigorous hours of play. He knows some basic commands
like sit, stay (sometimes), paw (for cleaning muddy paws) and
the all important: breakfast, dinner, snack, and food! He is learning
to respond to come and "leave it" much more readily
than when he came into foster.
He very politely and quietly
greets people coming into the room or the house by bringing them
his favorite toy, and can get quite distressed if he can't find
something to greet you with. Like most Goldens, he likes to be
near his humans, and especially likes to snuggle against you as
you sit or stand. He is house trained, and can be left alone (with
his foster sister Golden) for several hours. He is also crate
trained, and seems quite happy to go into his crate when asked.
He seems rather neutral towards felines.
This sweet, gentle giant
will make someone a very special companion - could that be you?
Gus has moved to
Florence to start a great new life with Wayne and Lee
Anne. His new parents lost their longtime companion "Mighty
Mo" last year. They were thinking about another female,
but a friend introduced them to the wonderful lineup of Golden
boys available for adoption, and it didn't take long for Wayne
and Lee Anne to fall for Gus. Gus finished the conquest of their
hearts when they came to visit. In his forever home, Gus will
enjoy love, walks, water,
fishing, and all the tennis balls any Golden could ever want.
We couldn't have written a happier ending to his adoption story.

GUS #229(Left handsome pre-
bad haircut! We promise it will grow back!) came to Golden Bond from his temporary home
following a divorce. He had a rough time as a puppy, and still
doesn't like anything that sounds like someone's yelling at him,
but much of the damage from his early mistreatment was undone.
This big 3-year-old boy is now 80 pounds of affection and play.
Gus has great house manners, loves his tennis balls and stuffed
toy, and finds the foster cat interesting. He follows his foster
parents everywhere and loves to curl up with his foster sister.
Gus is always enthusiastic about walks, and will fetch his tennis
ball until he's tired. After a short rest, he's ready to go again!
He loves to swim, and will leap with abandon into a pond in pursuit
of his tennis ball. Gus is part of the welcoming committee for
guests, and does his part to announce their arrival. Like his
foster sister, he enjoys music rehearsals.Gus doesn't enjoy being
alone, and is looking for a home where he willhave constant human
and dog companions. This wonderful teddy-bear boy wants YOU to
share his love.
6
year old TUCKER looked a little rough around the edges, when
we pulled him from a shelter! He cleaned up beautifully and he's
making Kathleen, Jim, Stephanie & Lindsay very happy!! Tucker
has just the right temperament to not be phased by Jim's electric
wheelchair. As long has he gets his pets, hugs, walks and LOTS
of love -- Tucker is a happy golden! The new family reports that
"Tucker fits our family perfectly!" Tucker is getting
to know his furry family members as well (Thomas the cat, Hillary
the rat, and Fuzzy the hampster). When his family took Tucker
on his first trip to PetsMart, people wanted to know where they
got such a GREAT golden! We know he will help spread the word
about Golden Bond!
Sweet face, Caesar, was adopted over the week-end. This is one of
those great stories where everyone lives happily ever after. Greg,
Beth and Abby, who is 3 and a half, have invited our dear Caesar
to come live with them. Abby has had a fear of dogs in the past
so there was great preparation for the visit with Caesar. The
family went to the store and Abby purchased a special toy for
Caesar, they also came home with a water dish and some treats.
When Caesar arrived for the visit, they were ready and Caesar
rose to the occasion. Caesar was gentle and a gentleman around
Abby and she warmed to him and all could see a great future ahead
for these two. Caesar has found a wonderful spot to live out his
years and will be among people who love him dearly. This is all
very well deserved for Caesar who used to be afraid of children
himself because they used to throw rocks at him. And they all
lived happily ever after!June
2002 We are sorry to learn that Caesar has gone to the rainbow
bridge. He will be missed by Greg, Beth and Abby. We are happpy
that this sweet dog was able to live his last months surrounded
by a loving family. Caesar #190 (senior) is about 9 to
10 years old. He was originally a stray before the former owner
adopted him from a Humane Society. He is a little broad through
the middle, as he weighs 90 lbs. and is on a diet, but he gets
around very well and is quite peppy and active for his age. He
has a heart of gold and just loves to be with you and around you.
He must have been raised around very young children as when a
baby cries, he becomes quite concerned and will go over to see
what is wrong. Ceasar needs to be on a leash when out and about
as he is hard of hearing and has a cataract. He sees shapes, shadows
and movement. He loves carrying his ball around but not as much
as he just enjoys being around his people. He gets along beautifully
with other dogs and cats. He would like a home where he gets lots
of attention, as he has lots of love to give and will be a wonderful
companion for someone looking for a low key dog. Old Gold is something
special. Please give this
guy a chance! He would like to find his forever home soon.
Update November 2002-
Chauncey is doing really, really well. The allergy
injections have helped tremendously. You wouldn't believe he
is the same dog! His personality is so different. He has become
a real "player." He spends his days playing with Dobie
and Hunter and his evenings sleeping on Bob's lap ;-) We're heading
to Goldentown on Saturday until December 2nd. Chauncey loves
going there so he can watch the cows and horses and WOOF, WOOF
at them ;-)Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Helen and
Bob. CHAUNCEY (#148) has
gone to his forever home at Goldentown. There he will live with
several other special needs dogs with the loving and experienced
Helen and Bob Redlus who founded Golden Retrievers in Cyberspace/Goldentown
in 1994 as a sanctuary and hospice for goldens. Presently Goldentown
is located in the Redlus' home, but eventually will move to a
26 acre property in Raymond, California, which is being prepared
as Goldentown's permanent home. We want everyone at Golden Bond
and viewers of this web site to know of the wonderful work this
non profit, all volunteer organization is doing to allow special
needs goldens to live out their lives in a dignified and happy
manner with excellent care until their time comes to go to the
Rainbow Bridge. Chauncey travelled by car to his new home, over
600 miles, like a gentleman out for a Sunday drive. Upon arrival,
and after all the
necessary and appropriate sniffing and posturing, he quickly
found the
dog-preferred spot in the floor with in-floor heating, and lay
down in a
sedate way. He then looked at us as if to say, "Okay, now
that all those
nosey dogs have inspected me, when's dinner? All of us at Golden
Bond are grateful that Chauncey has the opportunity to live at
Goldentown and we wish him a long and happy life . Anyone wanting
to learn more about the work of Goldentown can view their web
site here.
Chauncy
(formerly Ponce)special
needs-
At age 8, Chuancy is a
very sweet and lovable golden. Released by his owners, he is
well behaved and gentle. His allergies and skin problems will
require ongoing attention to proper diet and exercise, with the
possibility of an occasional need for medication. He is a very
light blond -- almost white -- and average in size for a male
golden. He loves socializing with other pooches at the park,
but prefers his people pals over doggie pals. His favorite activities
are short jogs and walks with his foster family. Very intelligent,
Chauncy knows all his basic commands as well as "walk"
and "treat". This gentle dog is looking for the perfect
forever family who will go that extra step for his special needs.
Newton went to his new forever home with Katie and Tye.
Tye was
adopted by Katie thru GB August, 2001. Tye and Newton look so
similar that when they are playing in the yard they are distinguishable
only by Newton's curly tail. They will have many happy hours
playing together. Katie's father lives with her and loves to
throw the ball for Tye during the day while Katie is at work.
Tye and Newton have already become buddies and since they are
both about 2 years old they're going to have many happy years
together.
- Newton
#220 is a little over two
years old. He's a very sweet guy who loves everyone and all other
animals. He's especially fond of cats and will follow them anywhere.
He gets along well with his foster family's other dogs, and he
loves kids. Newton is a little over weight but nothing a
little exercise won't take care of. He's looking for a home where
he can be part of the family and show you that Goldens really
are "people with fur"!
Kelte has
been adopted by Sheryl and Gordon and their son Shad. This lucky
girl will be able to spend a lot of time out camping and walking
with her new family. She loves water, and they might end up with
a four legged friend in their swimming pool come summer. Their
previous dog was known for taking an occasionable dip in the
pool, so that might be ok again. Kelte made the rounds getting
pets and rolling onto her side for stomach rubs when she met
her prospective new family. Then she really got excited when
they went to take her out for a walk. Little did Sheryl and Gordon
know, but they were headed for one of Kelte's favorite parks.
Kelte didn't quite understand at first when they turned around
to come back. Kelte can look forward to lots of time, attention
and love from her new family. What else could a Golden hope for?
Kelty #218 is a 5 year old female who should
be the only dog in the family as she needs a lot of attention
and has an alpha personality. She can become jealous if another
dog gets around her bowl or leash but doesn't mind if a human
does. In fact, she wants her humans around as much as possible
and that includes children. Kelty is fine with all ages of children.Kelty
is housetrained and can be left alone in the house for up to
8 hours without causing any problems. She does OK with cats and
all people. Kelty is socialable with other dogs in the dog park
where she loves to run, always coming back when called, but at
home she is territorial with her belongings.Kelty is the victim
of changes in her family environment and her owner is gone long
hours. She needs more physical contact with her humans since
they are so important in her life. She will greet you at the
door at the end of the day with much enthusiasm. This sweet female
needs a family who can give her a lot of attention and love.
She is very affectionate with her humans and would crawl in your
lap if you'd just let her.
- Our big, sweet guy, Jack, has been adopted
by Debbie and Mike and their Golden Bond dog Sammie. It has been
a long road for Jack. He was brought into Golden Bond back in
September of 2001. It was noticed almost immediately that he
limped and upon investigation found to have dysplastic knees
and possibly one hip. So it was off to one of our favorite vets,
Dr. Munjar. He agreed that the knees needed surgery so an operation
was set. Mike and Debra had said that they wouldn't be able to
foster during this surgery. For one thing their last foster dog
was Murphy who had eye surgery for cataracts and that was draining
and another was that their working schedule wouldn't allow the
care Jack would need. It wasn't very long after this that both
Mike and Debbie realized how fond they were of Jack and decided
that they would each take vacation time separately and foster
him through the surgery and recovery and then would like to adopt
him. Needless to say Jack couldn't have found a more caring home,
so after surgery and partial recovery, Jack was adopted by Mike
and Debbie, much to the delight of Sammy. So a very happy ending
to a long foster that turned into Jack's forever home.More about Jack Here.
MAX (#227) is now
at home with Daniel, Jill and their children, Alex and
Andrea. Max put on his best manners for his new friends when
they
met. By the time they came back from a walk, Max had convinced
them that
he should go home with them. Then he flopped on the floor and
played
shadow boxing with Alex and Andrea. His athletic and energetic
qualities
will be honed as his new dad teaches him obedience. Max's eagerness
to
please and outgoing nature will stand him in good stead and we
expect he
will become an elegant golden gentleman. Have a good life, Max.Max #227 is about 1 1/2 years old and he is a love.
He's a tall reddish goldenwith a shorter coat that won't be difficult
to maintain. He's very sweet and gets along well with other dogs
of the same temperment. Max is an active dog who loves to play
but calms down fast and wants his hugs. He can jump HIGH so must
be placed with a family that has at least a 6 foot fence! He has
some basic commands down (still needs some traing) and loves
to go for long walks. Max is very willing to please.Max doesn't
seem to mind my the cats in his foster home but will chase after
them if they run. If he spent more time with themI'm sure that
they would become friends. Max likes his crate and doesn't mind
sleeping in it at night. If the door is open he is oftenin his
crate. Max loves his stuffed toys and really loves his tennis
ball the best. Max seems to be house trained, but he has not
been left alone in foster care for long periods of time. Max
would make a wonderfulcompanion for a jogger or a family with
kids. Photo soon.
Our
pretty girl, LACEY, (#215) has gone home with her new forever family,
Matt and Robin where she is Matt's birthday present. She and
her new
golden sister, Molly, are going to wear themselves out playing
keep away
with the new balls that Robin brought. Some of the wonderful
things
planned for Lacey's future are backpacking and hiking, as well
as agility
and obedience training. Lacey decided right away that Matt, Robin
and
Molly are the family for her...and convinced them by doing her
polar bear
sit with front paws on them waiting to be petted. Lacey, I hope
you and
Molly insisted on a piece of birthday cake (doggie cake, of course).
Happy
trails to you, Lacey.
Lacey #215 female is a two
year old sweetheart. She is housebroken and verypolite, but needs
basic obedience training. She knows "sit" and is working
on "come" and "stay" but will benefit from
continued work on obedience. She is willing and eager! Her favorite
thing in the world is playing ball and she will carry one with
her most of the time, "just in case". She loves to
go for rides. Lacey is a beautiful dark red with a shorter but
wavy coat, so will need regular grooming. She is about 10 lbs
overweight right now, but her foster mom has her on Weight Watchers.
She is average size for a female (or will be when she slims down
a bit!). This sweet girl is quite submissive and can get easily
overwhelmed by more aggressive dogs. She would do best in a home
where someone is home with her much of the time. Lacey loves
kids, and can often be found surrounded by her small human foster
siblings, playing the dog or the baby or the horse. You name
it, she's in on it. All this little girl wants is a forever home
of her own where she can be a part of everything and get all
the love she deserves. She'll repay it many
times over!
Little cutie pie, Elroy, has been adopted
by one of our long time volunteers. Elroy will be joining Liz
and her Golden Bond Rescue dog, Jasper, who is five, and Falcore,
the cat. Liz had been thinking of getting a puppy for some time,
so when she logged onto the Golden Bond web-site she discovered
her next dog, Elroy.Elroy is having fun exploring his new surroundings
and Jasper is trying to decide what this little bundle of fur
actually is. Falcore is just staying away!Liz is feverishly learning
how to be Mom to such a little bundle of fur since Jasper came
to her full grown. Both dogs are lucky in that Liz's work schedule
allows for shorter working hours and more time at home with her
"kids." Elroy can look forward to many happy days ahead
is his new forever home.Sweet
Baby
Elroy #217 - Male,Born on October 29, 2002. This
lucky pooch was rescued by a Vet in Salem at 4 Weeks because
he had a kidney problem and the owners didn't want him. He seems
in perfect health at this point. He loves playing with the BIG
dogs (3 in his foster family.) He retrieves balls, carries things
in his mouth, and even has his own Kong he chews on. He has been
socialized around people and loves the attention that is showered
on him- 'cause he is sooo cute!He sleeps through the night, either
in his crate or in a pen. His foster family is working on house
breaking. Has been walking on a leash and does pretty good for
a little guy.He knows how to sit for puppy treats. This guy is
Totally iresistable. He will need ongoing vet care for his kideny
issues, and may be on special food but with attention to these
health issues we expect him to grow up to be a beautiful strong
dog. This sweetie pie is anxious to meet his new family so that
he can grow up with them!
Our
sweet Buddy #213 didn't have far to go for his forever home,
he has made a wonderful addition to his foster home and joins
Marsha and David and their dogs China and Spirit.Buddy was released
to Golden Bond by his owner because he loved to chase sheep and
was becoming very unpopular with his neighbors. Now he and Spirit
just chase each other around and that certainly satisfies them
both.Nice going Buddy, it didn't take long for you to find a
spot in the hearts and home of Marsha and David.
RUSTY
has gone home with Addison, Jill and his new best friend, Haley.
When
they met, Rusty's only hesitation was in deciding who to kiss
first. He
finally settled on Haley. Then they went for a walk together
and Rusty
put on his very best manners. It was instant love all the way
around. There is a beautiful new yard to run around in at his
new home and
he won't have to share Haley with any other dogs or cats, but
he will have
to get along with a guinea pig and a tank full of fish. We wish
Rusty and
his new family the very best future.
Rusty #173 is a 7 year old neutered male who
is medium red in color and "Big Love" in temperament!
Rusty wants nothing more than to be by your side at all times.
Well, maybe he wants his dinner more, but it is a close race.
He weighs in at 82 pounds currently, but he is on thyroid medication
and has already lost five pounds! Rusty is good with other dogs
and children, cats
are an unknown. He loves to play tennis ball and to swim, in
fact will lie down in mud puddles if you let him! He has had
some obedience training, and knows come, sit, down, stay and
heel. A refresher course would be the perfect bonding experience!
Rusty is crate trained, and uses a doggy door. He pulls a little
on the leash because he is always so excited to be going anywhere.
He settles down after a few minutes and a reminder to heel! He
loves to ride in the car, but sometimes gets carsick on really
curvy roads. He is a very gentle and loving boy who would do
well either as a single dog, or with a canine companion..
Chloe
has found her forever home with Delores and Pete. Delores reports
that Chloe is a darling, and has already won their hearts. Delores
is able
to work from home, and Chloe has already started laying at her
side, with
her paw on Delores' foot. Chloe is one lucky dog. In addition
to human companionship during the day, she will be able to accompany
Pete and Delores on trips to car shows. They travel quite a bit,
and were looking for a companion on these adventures. It will
be fun to see a picture of Chloe in one of their hot rods!Update: February 2002 "Flame"
(formerly Chloe) Update: It has been just over a week since we
adopted this little red dog, and we cannot begin to imagine our
lives without her. She is such a funny little girl, and has us
laughing much of the time. She is either "growl-y talking"
or poking us with one of her paws (she'll even use her back paw
if it's closer) as she begs for more attention. "More??"
Our recent snow was really fun for her. She would roll over and
over in itand lay on her back with her legs sticking up
what a sight! and with the
leash on, it was quite an undertaking to keep her untangled.
She loves her
neighborhood walks and the car rides and has good manners in
both. She does
not beg when we are eating, but she does watch every move when
the
dishwasher is being loaded. I think she is hoping a 'nummy' of
some kind
will appear! Each night she looks longingly up at our big bed,
but she has
adjusted nicely to her own, which is just a pat or two away.
Grooming her
is a snap. She will lay still for hours if you want her to. She
welcomes
all visitors with a grin and a wag of the tail. She is just one
good little
girl!! She would not respond to the name Chloe or any other name
that we tried, so we decided renaming her would not be a big
deal. Because my hotrod is red,
like her, and has flames on it, we decided "Flame"
would suit her well.
When we go cruising in our cars this summer, I will dress her
in a little
scarf with flames on it; and yes, I will send pictures. She has
already met her new Vet and he has suggested a new diet to help
her itchy skin. He also thinks she could be younger than the
7 or 8 years believed. And she weights 56 pounds not 45!!
(Chuck and Miriam, you did well, as he says she is in great condition.)
And, oh yes, we are also supposed to brush her teeth daily. She
will let us do absolutely anything to her - poking, rubbing,
looking in ears, checking paws, you name it except get
in her mouth. I think in time she will let us - she is really
a co-operative little thing. A big thank-you to Golden Bond for
letting us adopt her.Pete and Delores!Released to Rescue after she was found as a stray,
Chloe #206 is a small (45 pounds), 7-8 year old
red-gold bundle of affection. She gets
along with everyone in her foster home -- respects her older
brother, plays with foster sister, ignores the cat, and welcomes
company. The loud music of a rehearsing brass ensemble doesn't
faze Chloe at all, as she likes to nap at the feet of the horn
player.Chloe understands some basic commands, but prefers to
follow her people around rather than to "stay". She
isn't interested in toys and hasn't learned to retrieve anything,
but she makes up for this lack of childhood training with love
for her people. This little "velcro" dog settles down
wherever her people are found. She also likes to curl up with
foster sister on the big bed. Her leash manners have improved,
and she enjoys exploring the woods. She likes water and swimming.Chloe
is looking for a forever home with love to share. She doesn'tlike
to be left alone for long hours, and will be happiest in a homewhere
she will have human and/or dog companions.
MAGGIE (#211-
far right with some golden pals) has taken her sweet disposition,
calm nature and love of
retrieval to Assistance Partners (CAP) where she begins training
to become
a service dog. When her foster mom took her to work, she has
demonstrated
already that she isn't phased by an elevator or five flights
of stairs,
and that she knows how to lie quietly and wait until her partner
is ready
to go. With CAP she will be prepared to become a partner to a
disabled
person for whom she may be called on to retrieve dropped objects,
open and
close doors, turn on lights, push elevator buttons, and, most
of all, be a
best friend. The very best to Maggie and CAP in this worthy endeavor!
We look forward to updates as she advances toward graduation
with her partner.February
2002 Update.
Meet
Duke (left), a lovable one year old who was surrendered
to a Humane Society just days before
Christmas. He came to Golden Bond Rescue with
kennel cough and a bad ear infection. Duke was a real trooper
taking his assorted medicines, and
soon those were under control. In the meantime, he was bonding quite well with his foster family.
His first afternoon Duke snuggled up to his foster sister Bailey
for a nap. Soon they were playing tug, sharing toys, and having
a grand time. Not only was he becoming attached to his Golden
playmate, his foster family was also falling in love. His foster
Mom was on vacation during his first couple of weeks there, and
they became quite attached. The decision was made to open up
their home to another Golden. So Duke joins new sister Bailey,
three cats and two birds along with Jan, Kim,
- Heather and Coby. Already Duke has added
to his vocabulary with help
- from his sister's example. The only
word he was reported as knowing was
- sit. Now he knows other words as well:
breakfast, dinner and biscuit,
- (easy for a Golden to learn about food!),
shake, and go for a walk? We're
- working on wait and stay, however he
is already showing progress.
- This is one great Golden who was fortunate
to connect with a Golden
- Bond Rescue family for his forever home.
Emma
has been adopted by a lovely couple, Jerry and Nancy. She is
settling
in quite nicely to her new home on a one-half acre by Forest
Park. They
already love her, although being young she can be quite a handful.
Emma has
already chewed into a "chew proof" dog toy, so it's
good that Jerry is
retired and able to keep an eye on her.She gets very excited
when she meets new people, however settles down aftera few minutes.
All of their friends are wanting to come meet the newaddition
to their family, and she is getting lots of exposure to new people.Emma
minds well, and is great on a leash. They will be continuing
the great training she received at Charlton Kennels. Jerry and
Nancy were very impressed with Charlton Kennel and the wonderful
job they do in caring for and training dogs. Emma is a very loving
dog, and Jerry says they feel lucky they were able to adopt her.
Sounds like a fantastic match up of dog and family. More Photos of Emma and her new family here.
Emma is a beautiful and very sweet, one and a half
year old female who has been at Charlton Kennels learning some
excellent manners. She has been a good and receptive learner
and she is now looking for her forever home where she can get
the love and attention she deserves. She actually gave me a hug
with her paw around my ankle when I learned down to pet her.
You can see that she is just a love. She does need an owner who
will continue her obedience lessons and a family that can be
firm but loving and who will have lots of time and attention
to shower upon her. She also needs to be an only dog, as she
desires so much attention that she can become quite pushy with
other dogs. She is not good with cats either.Emma loves toys
and humans and desperately needs stability, love and leadership,
since she is a bossy alpha female. An owner, who she can bond
with her, and who will make her their special project, will not
regret giving her a permanent home. She is eager to learn and
will make a wonderful companion for just the right person willing
to commit their time and attention. If she can get this from
you, then she will give back all she has, and she has a lot to
give. If you are a home without any animals, please consider
giving this sweet girl her forever home. All she asks is your
love and devotion and that isn't difficult for people who love
Goldens.
