For the Love of Goldens
Adopted Jan. 24, 2008
I adopted Annie (formerly known as Cindy) about a month and a half ago, and she has already been such a blessing in my home and life. Annie came from a situation of extreme neglect that left her with untreated double ear infections, a skin infection, and several teeth needing to be removed from prolonged chewing on her kennel. Her vet said that it is amazing that she is not neurotic from months or maybe even years of untreated itchiness. In spite of all this, the only visible sign left from her rough life is some hair patchiness due to the skin infection (as well as from having some growths removed).
Annie is a wonderful dog with an amazing spirit! She is incredibly loving and playful. She is great with children and other dogs. She loves to go on walks, to lounge around on my bed, to play fetch, and to carry her stuffed toys around in her mouth. My favorite thing about her is her tail. It is constantly wagging! I have never seen anything like it. When it gets really going, it hits first one side of her body and then swings over and hits the other side of her. You never have to wonder if she is happy or excited- her tail says it all. I love how expressive this makes her!
She has adjusted so quickly to her new life, and I feel blessed to be able to provide a stable and happy home for her. I just want to say to anyone out there who is considering adopting a rescue pet, especially one that is older or has special needs, that it is so worth it. A history of neglect or mistreatment does not mean that a dog is past hope. Dogs have an amazing ability to move on and start fresh. They are able to teach us so much about unconditional love and devotion.
I do not know for sure how old Annie is, but I am hoping and praying that she will be a part of my life for many years. Annie is truly the perfect dog for me.
