Success Story: Abby (#1648)

We met Abigail “Abby” (#1648) on a wintry day in early December 2007. Snow was lightly falling, which only added to the excitement of our Portland trip. Abby’s wonderful Foster Parents told us how gentle she is, but we were nonetheless amazed upon our introduction. Abby took to our whole family right away including Mom’s friend Kelly and her teenaged son Travis. Mom has desired another canine companion ever since our 14.5 year old Black Lab/Golden Retriever, Elvis “Elvie” went to Heaven in April 2007. Now, after just one month living with Abby, we can’t imagine a more perfect addition to our family.

A typical day with Abby starts with walking our 7 year-old daughter, Reese to school, then continuing on a bit longer with just Mom. After a rest, and while Reese is at school, the day includes playing (outside if weather permits), napping with (or without) her cat-sister Gigi and/or cat-brothers, Sabre & Turbo, following Mom around the house while she does housework or more delightful things like crafts, and sometimes going for rides with Mom to do errands. Abby and Mom go on another walk to greet and walk Reese home after school. Abby enjoys the attention of all the school children, and sometimes canine friends while they are also waiting for their human children.

Abby gets along extremely well with other dogs – so much that we are already keeping an eye out for another canine family member. Mom sometimes gets fatigued easily due to Multiple Sclerosis, and Dad is sometimes away on business trips. Should both happen at the same time, Abby would benefit at the very least, playing with a canine brother or sister . Abby has already met some of her canine “cousins”; some at our house, others in Santa Cruz, California. She has experienced many things that we normally wouldn’t have done with just any new dog in the first month or so. She is a great travel-mate on long driving trips (Santa Cruz) and is just an all-out-easy-going dog.

I can’t believe that Abby was on “death row” before Golden Bond rescued her. What a treasure she truly is!
