Success Story: Dudley (#1634) Now Jangles

Adopted Nov. 10, 2007

Jangles seems like he's always been a part of our family and it's only been 2 weeks since we met!  Our family includes me, Linda Elliott, my tortoise-> shell "stealth cat" Tess (short for T.S. Eliot) and Beau, my oh-so-handsome Golden ?Black Lab mix.  So you see, Jangles my beautiful blond curly Senior Golden /Cocker? mix, just completes the collection. Most often, Tess will avoid being around Beau because he can't help chasing her under the bed. But the first morning after Jangles arrival I awoke to Beau asleep at the side of the bed, Jangles asleep at the foot of the bed and Tess asleep on the floor 4 feet away from them both!Jangles was able to bring peace to the kingdom.

Beau and Jangles definitely "dance"and play like puppies. Jangles most often initiates the the wrestling and tumbling.  The dominance is equally shared. Beau on his back and Jangles knawing an ear, then the lead changes, never an argument, only a romp.  Jangles' bio says he's 10 years old, and if that's true, he is a very young and active senior boy! Just what my nearly 4 year old Beau needs.

The only evidence of Jangles' "Senior-dom" is when we go for walks. Toward the end of a mile, his rear end swing becomes a slow swish. We take a walk every day on one of the many great hiking trails here at the coast come rain or shine.  Jangles thinks the rain walks are sort of fun, but really looks forward to coming home, getting towel dried and lying in front of the wood-burning stove with a greenie.

Jangles loves to go for rides in the truck and gets the whole back seat to himself. Beau always rides shotgun (I call him my Marine..semper fi). Teaching an old dog new tricks is easy with Jangles. Sit is easy. Wait (until I put the leash on) is easy.  Walking up and down the ramp into the truck was a piece of cake on the first try! Jangles and Beau are inseparable, unless Beau goes out the doggie door. Jangles has done it with much coaxing and bribery, but so far not voluntarily.

Dinner time has worked itself out.  Beau finishes his dinner in one setting now and Jangles has learned to stay away from Beau's dish. They sleep together, play together, follow me around together, and look oh-so-handsome together when we walk on our retractable leashes.  They are very handsome, well-mannered boys with new people and other dogs.
I hesitated to adopt a senior because I just lost my wonderful 13 year old Golden, Rusty.  I still cry occasionally but Jangles has brought that same sweet, gentle spirit back to our pack, and we are whole again. Thank you Golden Bond.
