Success Story: Charlie (#1625)

Adopted Oct. 24, 2007

It was early April of 2007, and the love-of-our-life Golden Retriever, Copper, died suddenly of a stroke. Although he had a long life of 15 years, our life without him seemed undoable. Shortly later, our Mother passed away and Julie had her second hip replacement in two years – 2007 was a not a year to be remembered.

What came next was almost unbelievable. We looked into adopting a Golden Retriever from Golden Bond Rescue. We completed the proper paperwork, submitted it, and waited for the call. Our adoption coordinators, Jill and Jack Groves, came to our house, and with them they brought us hope that we may be able to again enjoy the companionship of a Golden Retriever. In just three weeks, we were introduced to some very wonderful dogs, but the miracle was meeting Charlie. We met Charlie and his amazing foster family, Pat O’Brien and Frances O’Connor, and their beloved children, Kieran, Cameron, and Elizabeth, at their home. We immediately knew that Charlie was the dog we were hoping for -- somehow he almost seemed like our reincarnated Copper. (But…Charlie could never be anyone but himself, a loving, friendly and adorable Golden!)

Charlie became ours a short time later, and we will always thank his foster family and our adoption coordinators for making our life truly blessed again with our new member of the family.

Whether he is fetching his ball on the greenbelt, playing with his toys, or sleeping peacefully and cozily in his bed, he is forever sharing his unconditional love. He has been with us now for about two months, and we can’t even imagine a day without him!
