Murphy:A few months ago my new mom went to the Troutdale animal shelter (innocently enough, she says) to pick up a stray—me! I was to be her next foster dog. But I had a better idea. I quickly wiggled my way into her heart and she became a Foster Failure on her 15th foster dog. But, I ask you, how can this be a failure if we’re both so happy at how things turned out?
Mom: How could anyone let a dog like Murphy wind up at a shelter and not search high and low for him? Murphy is cuddly, mellow, funny, well-behaved, and all-around cute and adorable.
Murphy:I don’t know about all that, but I know I’m one happy dog. I have a big back yard, a soft bed, and good food (this raw meat and veggie stuff is new but I like it). I even go to an assisted living place sometimes where people says I’m so cute and sweet. Big brother Skooter caught on right away that I was different from the other goldens who’d passed through his home the past three years … hump, hump, hump ... but he’s fine with me now. Mom likes that I’m not a ball dog because Skooter is … what’s her word … oh, yes—obsessed with tennis balls.
Mom: Murphy has one odd trait—he’s camera-shy. When they photographed him at the shelter, he dove under the table. A few weeks later, I tried to take a flashless picture of him outside. No luck. Whenever I get a camera near my face, he disappears and trembles. When I tie him up so he’s a captive audience, he whimpers and shows every sad face in his repertoire. What’s all this about? (The photo you see is about the best I’ve gotten so far. Time to de-sensitize the little guy to a camera.)
Murphy: Yep, Mysterious Murf, that’s me.
Mom: Things happen for a reason. Life’s been difficult the past few years. I had no intention of getting a second dog—too much work—but the universe had a different idea. Cuddling with two dogs is heavenly and Murphy isn’t that much extra work. Life is good!
Murphy: I love my new home and all the attention I get. I love our walks. I like chasing squirrels (mom was NOT happy, however, when I caught one a few weeks ago). I like splashing around in the river and all the smells at the beach. I love getting on the floor with my new mom and snuggling—THE CLOSER THE BETTER, I say. Thank you Golden Bond! Life is good!
