It was one month ago today that a special spirit named Kinsey came bursting into my life with energy and enthusiasm. Thanks to the wonderful people of Golden Bond Rescue, I was able to bring this wonderful dog into my home, in which I had been rattling around by myself since the loss of the cat who had been my friend for nineteen years. Kinsey, now Teddy, has quickly stolen my heart with his happy personality and winning ways, while also challenging me to live in the present and to move on, without holding a grudge or indulging in regret when things go “wrong.” It is already hard to imagine life without him and I hope to be able to enjoy his company for many years to come.
Teddy has adjusted very well to his new life, especially considering that he has suffered with severe itching for a long time and was in two animal shelters before even getting to his foster home. Luckily for him, he was fostered by an eminently wise and kind Golden Bond Rescue foster mom, who saw past the health problems and lack of training to the hidden treasure within. With her help and the influence of two foster brothers, he was transformed into a much healthier and well-mannered dog, one who was manageable for someone such as myself, with relatively little experience in dog guardianship. Since coming to live with me, Teddy has made even more progress health-wise, thanks to the expertise of Bob Ulbrich, VMD. I am truly grateful for all their help and am happy to report that his skin is getting progressively better and his energy is returning.

Teddy and I are settling into a routine that revolves around eating, walking, and especially TENNIS BALLS. (I never knew they could be such an endless source of amusement when there are no tennis rackets in sight.) Teddy has brought a lot of smiles to everyday life, with his wagging tail, the sound of his sniffing, his fascination with the view out my office window, and his moments of goofiness. Walks have been a bit challenging, as there has been a difference of opinion as to who is walking whom, but they have offered lots of opportunities to practice patience and leadership! What was most unexpected was how walking with a dog would foster connections with other dogs and people in the neighborhood; we have made many new acquaintances in the past month and look forward to meeting more, especially when Teddy learns not to bowl people over with his enthusiasm!
I want to give a big and heartfelt thank you to everyone at Golden Bond who helped me to find my new best friend, including Jack, Miriam, and most especially Diana. You are a wonderful group of very special people and you are doing a fantastic job. Thank you so much!
