Adoption report for Rylee

We had been approved for adoption through Golden Bond in late June, after finally making the decision to adopt and looking at their website for a few months. We lost our first dog and second Golden when he was almost 8 in February 2007. It was very suddenly and the grief was overwhelming.  We know all of you reading this can understand. Thankfully we still had “Brandie” who is almost 10, she was and is our first Golden. She was heartsick after losing her buddy Griz, and we were heartsick watching her waiting for him to come around the corner or in through the door. So by the time we made the decision to adopt we were most anxious for Holly, our adoption coordinator, to find a good fit for the “three” of us. And boy did she!! She notified us that Rylee might be available the last week of July and by that weekend he was on his way to his forever home. This after spending about 3 weeks with his foster family (Char, we know you and your husband loved Rylee too, thanks so much for taking him in. We have a great respect for foster families after going through this process)

So Rylee came “home” and after the normal adjustments that we were prepared for, he settled in very quickly. He came with that Golden skin condition that some of them have, very itchy and uncomfortable, scratching all the time. He was on antibiotics and needed a bath twice a week with medicated shampoo. We were adamant that we would find relief for this dog, and are happy to report that within 3 weeks, his itching went from almost constant to almost none. He has filled this house with laughter again, he loves his tennis balls, loves to play with Brandie, loves attention, and loves his daily walks and/or jogs around the neighborhood. Brandie was a calming effect on him when he arrived, she let him know that it is okay to hang out together and just be on squirrel patrol when we are away for a short time or at work. You can see from his pictures that the tennis balls are never far away. His adoption papers say he is 5 years old, but he makes us believe he is a 2 year old living in that beautiful Golden body. Thank you Golden Bond Rescue for all that each of you do – these dogs deserve a second chance at a forever home and you have give them that and more.
