Lizzie (#1420)

We are the happy new home, and it is a forever home to Lizzie (Love). Her name in The Bible means God is my oath, and Elizabeth was the mother of John The Baptist.

We had gone without a dog for 2 years, but we knew we would be getting a dog again someday. We knew it would be a dog that we rescued, but the timing needed to be just right. We had gone to dog parks and always admired the lovely golden retrievers among all the breeds. We headed to the Golden Bond Rescue picnic in late August, and were drawn immediately to a lovely, small, light colored female, that was being held on leash by her foster mom, Joy. We all smiled when we learned more about her from Joy and Paul and their grand kids. The whole picnic we spent learning and loving Lizzie, but we also knew we needed to be matched with a dog, and qualify for one. So we turned in our application, gave all our information, and prayed that Lizzie would be ours. The process was fun and we got to know a few more volunteers helping dogs find forever homes.

When the process proceeded to Lizzie meeting our cat Socks, we were very excited, but took the day slowly. We reminded ourselves, that all love takes time, and this was an important day for us, Lizzie, and Socks. Would Socks accept Lizzie, and would Lizzie like our home with Socks? Finally, the time came for the big decision, and everything went well! What a relief, the end of our long wait to add love in our home.

We gave Lizzie a bath on her first day, and she loved the gentle massage. She needed calm and quiet, and she explored our huge yard. She liked being outside, but just a bit at a time. She kept going to the door and checking if it was open for her. The first month went very quickly, keeping her home, and having no visitors, so she could bond with us. Every day she made progress, and now she runs outside, and never comes to the door, until she is ready at the end to come back inside. Her amazing foster family, made the right decision to bring her to the annual picnic, and we were very blessed to find her and be matched with her. She truly is, the love we've been waiting for, our beautiful Lizzie.

We thank all the volunteers, and especially Joy and Paul (and Bear.) Golden Retrievers are just an amazing dog. We are really happy and forever in love.
