Bear’s (#1349) first 2 hours with us were in the back of my pick-up. Since they were from the Portland area and we hail from Seattle, we met the foster family in Centralia for the exchange. He was oddly calm in the car on the way home. When we got to the house he was excited to explore all around and sniff out every corner. That’s when he met his new sister, Heidi the dachshund. What an odd couple, they are, but they get along perfectly. Actually, Heidi has the last word in most situations. The cat was a different story. It took our cat, Stella a good 2 weeks to come out from under the bed. Now, Bear and Stella have a healthy cat and dog relationship. Sometimes Bear will give chase, but Stella definitely likes the attention. She follows us on walks around the block.
Bear was all set up with a bed and dishes when he arrived. He settled in quickly. He does get up a bit early in the morning (5:30am). We are working on a few issues that Bear has. Mostly, centered around the leash habits. He still pulls when on walks and has some aggression issues when approaching oncoming dogs on leashes. He thoroughly loves going to the dog park where he has learned to get along with all shapes and sizes of dog. For those of you who know Bear, you know he is quite energetic. We frequent the dog park and he loves to play good old fetch with tennis balls in the front yard. I tried introducing him to the water, but he was a little reluctant. We are working on that one this summer.
Overall, Bear is very happy in his new home and we are happy with him. He is a very loyal and affectionate puppy that is eager to please. He is settled into the routine at home and will be attending obedience training to iron out the issues very soon.
