Success Story: Shadow (#1339)

Adopted February 7, 2006

Shadow
Hi, Just a short note to let you know that Shadow (#1339) has fit in like he has always been part of the family. He is really an exceptional dog and I can only hope that other families are so lucky. He is a PERFECT fit!!

We can't thank you enough for making such a good selection.

Shadow does exceptionally well with the kids and just can't spend enough time with them. He alternates sleeping with them each night, as if he knows he needs to be fair. He quickly showed signs of becoming concerned for the kids when the wrestling began and is very careful about roughhousing. As you can see, he has little objection to "dressing up" while playing with the kids.

We had opportunity to meet another birding dog at a rural duck club, while we did some post-season cleanup. Shortly after the initial "posturing", he demonstrated the ability to be very social and playful. He loved the boats and playing in the water and went swimming without a lick of hesitation. I admit, I had a lot more apprehension than he did. After hours of romping, and a few water retrieves he slept like a log that night.

As for teaching an old dog new tricks... malarkey. Shadow is very attentive to learning and since I hope to hunt with him one day, he needed to learn the idiosyncrasies that go with that. He has improved his ability to stay, work on a leash and has learned to retrieve to my hand, rather than dropping it. I was very concerned about one big step, the sound of gunfire. He went out to the gun club with me and we listened for a few minutes and he got bored and was ready to check things out, immediately. What a relief!!!

Shadow has impressed our neighbors by being so social and (usually) very polite on first introductions. Of course he is such a hog for attention, that can't last forever. Thanks again, Golden Bond!
