Success Story: Bubba (#1160)

Adopted April 8, 2005

Bubba
Bubba (#1160) is doing wonderfully in his new home with Doug and Renee!! Renee writes, "Our other two golden retrievers (formerly Golden Bond dogs) have taken to him as though he has been a part of the family for years. He is just a big loveable teddy bear. We took him to our vet yesterday to get him weighed and he tipped the scale at 155 lbs. We are on a mission to get him down to 125-130 lbs. He is bonding with my husband and me very nicely and he seems to be very relaxed and happy. Bubba loves to give us that golden retriever grin all the time as do our other two goldens. He likes car rides, walks, baths and to be by our side. Our chickens and pygmy goats have brought some curiosity to Bubba too — it is fun to watch him! We are so glad to have the opportunity to adopt Bubba! All three of our golden retrievers are very special to us!

Thank you!
Doug and Renee

Update: May 31, 2005

Bubba
I just want to update you on Bubba. We took him to the vet over the weekend and he is now weighing in at 139 lbs. He has about 10-12 more pounds to lose and then we will stabilize his weight. The vet will recheck his thyroid in August to see if the pill dosage can be decreased or ormitted all together. He is feeling soooo good and is soooo happy!! We purchased a new mattress and boxspring a few months ago that is about 32 inches off the ground (one of those really thick mattresses) well, Bubba could not jump up on the bed at all when we first got him. He would struggle and struggle to try and jump up and just couldn't make it and now he jumps up with ease and isn't struggling anymore. We are so proud of his improvements!! He is such a wonderful boy and getting to be quite protective of the house along with our other two goldens. They all three are getting along great and are good buds. Thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to adopt these three wonderful dogs. I will keep you posted on Bubba. I think the next weigh-in at the vet's office will show his ideal weight.

Thank you again.
Renee

Bubba's "Available" Story

BubbaIf you believe that bigger is better then you must meet Bubba (#1160), all 160+ pounds of pure unconditional LOVE. Bubba is a very sweet, mellow 3 year old boy who loves attention and affection. He wants to be a constant companion always by your side or at least in the same room. He gets along well with other dogs although his size can be intimidating, but he likes to play and socialize. He is very mellow and gentle around cats.

His energy level inside is pretty low. Other than an occasional short game of tug and quietly chewing on a stuffed animal, he spends his time lying by your side or just watching the household goings-on. He enjoys being outside but just not alone. He enjoys low energy activities outside; short walks, car rides, swimming and lying in the grass trying to catch grasshoppers.

Bubba has adapted very well in his foster home, getting along with 4 golden brothers and sisters and 2 cats, adjusting to a new routine, as well as being put on a "fitness program". He has recently started on thyroid medication and that has improved his energy level.

Although it does not appear that Bubba has had any formal obedience training he does know sit and walks fairly well on a leash. We are working on down, stay and come.

Bubba was reluctantly given up by his former owners who are expecting and were concerned that given his size he unintentionally might injure a newborn. He is extremely friendly and social, but does not always recognize how big and strong he is. He can be pushy and demanding of attention at certain times, so he would probably do best in a house where there are no small children.

Bubba is a wonderful BIG dog (possibly part Newfoundland) who will win your heart in a matter of minutes. So if you are looking for a mellow low energy companion here he is!
