Mardi Crosses the Rainbow Bridge on March 14, 2006

Mardi
Mardi
It is with the saddest emotions that we write to tell you our Mardi Gra has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She entered our lives on January 22, 2005 and has left us at age 4, March 14, 2006. We thank Golden Bond for all the support we received during the adoption process and throughout our very short year with her.

Mardi's prior life is unknown but the year she had with us made up for whatever was lost. We loved her like no one else could have and gave her all we could. Her personality had really just come alive with us. She was guarded and needed reassurance and protection. The month of her one year anniversary with us, she flipped over a new leaf and you could just see a whole new acceptance within her. She loved her stuffed animals and socks, clean or dirty. She loved sleeping with our girls and would be absolutely beside herself at the sight of Grandma and Papa. Yes, she was loved and we are slowly accepting that she is really gone.

She died of what appears to be a massive heart attack at the girl's bedtime, with all of us watching, Bruce & I doing all we could to bring her back. She was very healthy, no signs, no warnings and now gone.

Our lives are greater because of Mardi and will never be the same. We love you Gra Gra... oh so much!

~ Your Forever Family, Bruce, Dawn, Morgan & Katie

Adopted January 22, 2005

MardiMardi (#1135), not long ago, was a lost and lonesome stray. She has now found her forever home with Bruce and Dawn (grown-ups) and Morgan and Katie (dog loving kids!). Whatever her past, Mardi has only good things ahead for her now. What a giggly, happy, cuddly, tummy-rubbing good time was had at the adoption visit !! It was a unanimous decision to invite Mardi home with them, and if Mardi herself could have voted, it would have been "four-paws" up. When it was time to leave, Mardi quickly jumped into her new car, but even the soft bed in the back wasn't enough. She had to be closer to her family. Morgan and Katie made room, and Mardi joined the other "kids" in the back seat, looking out the window, happy to be part of her new family.

Another happy ending, another goodbye, and a Golden Bond foster family who knows that our efforts with rescue dogs are worth the time and care. Thanks, Mardi, for learning to trust us. You have come a long way, and we are so glad you will continue this happy story with a wonderful family of your own.

Mardi's "Available" Story

Mardi (#1135) is a very attractive young female who in many ways could be a "Poster Child" for rescue. She was found as a stray on a backroads highway, scared, in heat, uncertain. Despite considerable efforts, her owner was not found. Mardi can't tell us her story, but her beautiful red coat, trusting, hopeful eyes, and eagerness for attention suggest she once had her own family. The vet who spayed her thinks she is between two and three years old, and is in good health. Though very shy and guarded at first, Mardi has begun to blossom in foster care. There is every hope that she will continue in this direction. She has enjoyed the company of her foster family's two Goldens — an older "nanny" who calms and teaches and a young pup who invites her to play. She has learned to trust both and responds with happy companionship. Mardi has quickly learned manners — house training, wait, sit, leash walking, and riding in the car. She is a quick study, but will benefit from a very gentle and experienced teacher to continue her training. With time, this beautiful girl will give back many times over the efforts and care we have begun with Golden Bond.
