Golden Retriever Rescue
For the Love of Goldens
Tanner was left at his veterinarian's office in Bend for euthanasia due to the fact that he had severe hip dysplasia. The vet asked that he be turned over to him rather than being put down and Golden Bond was called. Tanner was delivered to the Portland area with bad skin and fur and could only walk about 100 feet before having to sit because his hips bothered him that much. Once in Portland he was neutered and then seen by Dr. Tim Munjar who is an orthopedic surgeon. The diagnosis was definitely hip dysplasia and surgery was necessary. Tanner had a TPO, triple pelvic osteotomy, on the first hip and a Darthroplasty, dorsal acetabular arthroplasty, on the second hip.
This is quite a lot to go through for a dog who is just 11 months old. When he first came to Golden Bond he was depressed and had to be extremely sedate due to pain. But after surgery, he is a ton of energy.
Tanner was a model patient even though he wanted to run and play before he was allowed. In fact, if there was any danger to the surgery site, it was from a wagging tail. Tanner is now one happy dog and has been in his forever home since August of 2004.

Can you believe it? Dreams come true even for little puppies like me! Not only did I get both my hips fixed up good as new and got to stay with a great family that took care of me while I healed but now I have a family of my very own. I have a mom, dad, 2 human sisters, 2 cat buddies, and 2 great dog pals. We live in a 3-story house so we all have plenty of room to play, sleep and of course eat.
My bestest dog pal, Kuma is a Golden Bond graduate too so he is teaching me all the ropes. I am going to start obedience classes soon. I don't like the sound of that big word but Kuma says it's fun so I'm going to see what it's like. I want to learn all I can so my new family will love me as much as I love them.
The only sad spot in my heart is that I did not get a chance to say "bye-bye" to my foster family. I was adopted when they were camping so we did not get a chance to kiss, hug, wiggle and pet before I left. They are very special people. They care for most of the " hip" dogs for Golden Bond Rescue and are the most loving and caring folks ever. I will miss you all greatly.
Love to all especially you Gulliver
Tanner (#1025)
PS from Golden Bond: Tanner, we promise that Erin, Ross and Devon come to visit you in your new home maybe even Gulliver, too.

Tanner now known as Brinn is doing great. He just finished basic obedience... well OK he needs to do it again. He is somewhat of a wild child. Something about being cooped up while recovered from all his surgeries, I think. He seems to be having his puppyhood now. He and Kuma, our other Golden Bond dog, are the best of friends. Brinn has a huge case of hero worship for Kuma and does everything he does, except for the manners thing. That doesn't seem to rub off pity. We have been taking them to a fenced dog park, where Brinn has become the official greeter of all who enter. When we first started taking him to the park he was pretty out of shape and could only run around for a few minutes before he had to rest. I think he is up to running for about 30 to 45 minutes now. No problems with his hips at all. He is a great little dog... very sweet without a mean bone in his body. He and my youngest daugher seem to be on the same level maturity-wise. Although she doesn't shred rolls of toilet paper on the stairs, she has learned to not leave them down where he can reach them. I'm sure in a year or so he will slow down a little. My goal is to have him pass his Canine Good Citizen Test (Kuma passed last May) so I see a lot of obedience classes in our future.Anyway we could not be happier with both of our Golden Bond Dogs. Kuma has actually turned into the best dog I have ever had (I love that dog) and Brinn is right behind him.
