Gretchen and Homer Cross the Rainbow Bridge

Gretchen

Gretchen (#59)
Homer

Homer (#253)

Two very special dogs cross the bridge within weeks of each other, both unique in their own way, leaving a huge hole in the Nolte household.

Gretchen (#59) was first to cross. She was returned to Golden Bond in January of 2004. Shortly after her return it was discovered she had melanoma under her tongue. Howard and I were fortunate to be her permanent foster home. Gretchen became family and spent a year and a half with us playing with her toys, woo wooing to the delight of all, learning how to swim, camping and just being a happy camper in everything she did. She was one special girl and is missed by all of our friends and family. Gretchen was like one of our own, sorely missed but so happy to have had her.

Homer (#253) crossed the bridge shortly after Gretchen. I am sure she was there to meet him and they are undoubtedly running and playing with their toys and each other. Homer came to me by way of the Clackamas County Shelter back in April of 2002. He had been abandoned in downtown Lake Oswego probably because of his many medical issues. Dr. Laird Goodman and myself nursed him back to health. When it came time to put him on the website, I just couldn't let him go, so we adopted him in June of that year. This boy was certainly not the best looking but what love he could give and what a unique way of saying hello! He could look you in the eye and reveal his soul. Those eyes said so much to you and one morning they said, don't let me go on like this. I sadly had to respect his wishes and let him go physically but my heart will never let him leave.
