Golden Retriever Rescue
For the Love of Goldens
Dear Friends and Family,
It's been four years since we adopted Molly from Golden Bond. "Rescue" is the term that they use to describe the process. But I read someplace that pets come into our lives at times to rescue us from ourselves. They love us and care for us even when we've had bad days or are tired or depressed. They teach us to care outside ourselves and to slow down and throw the ball (or fetch the treat, in Molly's case).
Pets stay with us through the happiest and hardest of periods and when the time comes, they leave us knowing that we'll be all right and that we'll move forward having had them there to help guide us.
This past week, Molly's health turned downward and declined very rapidly. At first we thought she was just depressed since I was out of town for the bulk of the week. But even after I returned Molly just wasn't the same. It became clear to Steph and I that Molly had realized it was time for her to leave us. Not even her favorite treats ice cream and hot dogs could get her to eat. She refused to move from her spot on the floor and her tail wags were slow and brief.
Sadly, tonight at 6 pm, Steph and I sat with Molly as the doctor's at Dove Lewis hospital freed Molly from her pain and allowed her to run and chase squirrels in another place. We miss her now, but are comforted that she enjoyed her final years with us and had all of you to say hello to and play with while she was with us.
Godspeed Molly!
Stan and Steph
